Chapter 1131: Kennedy wants to talk.
Kennedy wants to visit the Federal Republic of Germany? Getting this news, Alan Wilson couldn’t help but ponder, was this a response to the Soviet Union’s testing of the Czar’s nuclear bomb, and Kennedy wanted to arrive at the front lines of the Cold War to demonstrate America’s fearlessness?
This is a move that does not cost much, it does not cost much money, but also can establish the image of the Cold War fighter.
It looked dangerous, but it wasn’t. West Berlin, surrounded by a Soviet garrison, was in a sense safer than the United States itself, at least if Alan Wilson had dared to laugh in an open car.
Unlike in history, however, West Berlin is not empty, but it is almost like a barracks.
The Berlin Wall had been constructed some years ago, and naturally the existing population could not afford the daily maintenance of a half-cosmopolitan city compared to the size of downtown West Berlin.
Overgrown with weeds, the whole of West Berlin is in a state of depression, just like what happens when a resource-based city is depleted. With such a cityscape, can Kennedy still shout “I am a Berliner”? It is difficult to find a crowded audience, isn’t it?
In fact, quite a few people in the Federal Republic of Germany now no longer see West Berlin as part of their country.
Historically, after the construction of the Berlin Wall was completed and the FRG could no longer absorb the GDR’s labor force from Berlin, the FRG government had the idea of exchanging West Berlin for some of the GDR’s border territories.
Only this move was not in the interests of Britain, the United States and France. The running of West Berlin was a burden on the FRG, but this stronghold deep inside the GDR was of great strategic significance to the free world.
The FRG’s move to give up West Berlin in exchange for some GDR border land naturally would not be agreed to.
Now, the idea is back within the FRG, and in the face of a deteriorating West Berlin with less than 100,000 citizens, the FRG does not want to continue the rhetoric of blood transfusions.
Rab Butler asked the Prime Minister, what he thought of Kennedy’s trip to Europe, Aidan was noncommittal, “Has the Foreign Office been having any difficulties with its work lately?”
“No difficulties, everything is in order.” Rab Butler replied dryly.
“No comment from those Whitehall officials?” Aidan inquired smilingly, seemingly quite satisfied with the answer.
“Alan, he’s been very busy lately, exchanging information with the Five Eyes Alliance internally, checking on the progress of ship support, and that aspect of overseas asset valuation.” Rab Butler shrugged and sighed, “Very busy.”
Not very busy, Alan Wilson, who was in Glasgow, expressing his enthusiasm for British shipbuilding, and thanks to Hepburn’s support for his work, drove him over in his newly purchased Bentley.
“Here’s a contract from the Executive Council officials over in Shannon.” Arrived in Scotland’s shipbuilding center, Alan Wilson is not good for nothing to rub the car, took out a stack of documents to Hepburn.
“What’s this?” Hepburn wondered, asking the man who was her husband’s equal.
“A piece of land, a factory to be built to produce the East Asian drugs, one of which you smeared there last time.” Alan Wilson pushed it back into Hepburn’s hands, “The formalities are all done.”
“It’s too valuable, I can’t have it.” Hepburn’s face flushed red and she shook her head, knowing full well the weight of the document.
“Take it, the value of the colonial estate, is simply a matter of our words. We say Xiangjiang land inches of gold, it is inches of gold, say it a penny is not worth, it is a penny is not worth.”
Alan Wilson replied expressionlessly, “Exactly what it’s worth, it’s all just our word.”
It’s as if with the size of Hong Kong, it’s perfectly capable of accommodating the existing population, but the British Hong Kong authorities, in order to maximize profits and generate more revenue, will not implement cheap housing to cover the entire population.
This is only a selective question, not a question that has only one right answer.
Only reform measures that do not touch on the basic structure of the British Hong Kong political system can be implemented to a certain extent. Any reform measure that touches on the basic structure of the British Hong Kong political system will be rejected by the British Government as a result, no matter how controversial it is at the time and how great an impact it has created.
Taking a piece of land from Hong Kong and manufacturing some tested medicines was within Alan Wilson’s ability to brush his face, and if he had only considered the Chinese market, he would have given this document to Xia Meng.
But considering the mainstream ethnic group of British citizens, with the common problem of rough skin of white people, he felt that these ointment-type products, should be able to enter the British market, then it would be more appropriate to give it to Hepburn, as for the benefits of Xia Meng, he would think of something else later on, anyway, he would not treat the other party poorly.
“This place is actually just fine!” Alan Wilson pointed out of the car window to Glasgow, the sea breeze just hurt his skin, it just so happened that there were a few thousand trainee laborers working right now, considering the soil and water problem, it was very normal for him, a permanent undersecretary of the foreign ministry and a former Emperor of the soil of Malaya, to come over and care about it.
It was even more normal to bring some ointments suitable for the Chinese, which would pull goodwill without having to give anything.
“These trainee workers are very diligent, just this seriousness is impressive.” A shipyard owner, praised the trainee workers assigned to him, and even tried to ask if there was any intention of having the next batch.
“We have to consider the issue of the impact on local employment, although I’m not the permanent undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior, this is an issue I can’t ignore.” Alan Wilson spoke directly to interrupt the shipyard owner’s conjecture, “The internship period of two years is equivalent to a migrant worker. After two years they will leave.”
“These trained skilled workers, there is no suitable work when they go back, so I see that it can be completely extended.”
“By then the Ministry of the Interior, will have a view that takes care of the interests of all parties.” Alan Wilson said in his heart that you think beautiful, really think that you can use the labor force that is only one-third of the wage of the British mainland for a long time?
The economy is going well, you and I are good and everyone is good, once the economic development is in trouble, these people are often scapegoats. There are too many precedents to prove this.
Even the UK’s shipbuilding industry depends on being able to compete on home soil against Japan before it can consider the need for retention.
“How are the Middle East yacht orders coming along?” Alan Wilson inquired about the extent to which some of the orders had been fulfilled, orders that his wife had returned to the sheikhs in exchange for their oil allocations.
From this point of view, these shipyard owners should thank his wife and himself, Pamela Mountbatten handed back the oil share, and the local upper echelons established a strong human relationship, he himself used this as a basis to fight over a large number of yacht orders.
“British shipbuilding, you have to win with fine products, with a balance of luxury and seaworthiness. I believe there is no problem, our boats are adapted to the North Atlantic, they will be adapted to any sea.”
The North Atlantic is nicknamed the Stormy Ocean, and in the face of this environment in the UK, the seaworthiness of shipbuilding has always been a priority. As for the Pacific side, just by looking at the name, it was clear what kind of knowledge European sailors really had about the Pacific.
“What is this?” Upon seeing a large box of unknown ointment, these shipyard owners were compelled to ask.
“The ointment used by the Chinese, it’s very effective for the skin on the body. Especially hemorrhoids!” Alan Wilson blurted out, “Jack Horse Hemorrhoidal Ointment, help me distribute it to the interns.”
The region of Scotland was of great significance to both Hepburn and Alan Wilson, and was the beginning of their relationship.
The weather was warm, and the characteristic pale blue of the cloudless sky made the waters and skies of Scotland bright and radiant in a way that had not been seen, even from a more favorable latitudinal position. The air was fresh and pleasant, and the sun shone with extraordinary brilliancy, illuminating the forests, which were changing color, as if richly and beautifully painted with a million bright and vivid pigments.
The great river, impelled by a strong breeze, was gleaming and rushing forward, and the tops of its rapid waves were glistening with snow-white waves.
If there could be no more fascinating scenery than this magnificent river, its breadth, its depth, and the clearness and transparency of its waters, as well as its significance for Scotland, would be sufficiently noteworthy and worthy of every thoughtful man’s praise.
Alan Wilson gushed at Hepburn, uttering a heartfelt praise that he did not know whether it was for nature or for the bulbous flower, “After all these years of passing time, the recollection of every past event that had stirred a feeling of surprise in my breast, a bend in the road that was beautiful and so heart-warming, one could not help but be grateful to and adore, the Omnipotent Creator.”
“What on earth are you talking about?” Hepburnan, enveloped in this gaze, could not resist a snigger of delight, but still inquired, feigning ignorance, “Complimenting the scenery of Scotland, or?”
“Both! There are many fond memories of us here.” Alan Wilson grabbed Hepburn’s hand and put it on his chest, and whispered fondly, “Everything in front of me is like a noble goddess full of life, accepting the worship of all pilgrims.”
The sorrows and joys of mankind are not the same, Kennedy still arrived in West Berlin and gave his I am a Berliner speech, there wasn’t much of an audience, but it was hard to beat Kennedy, the leader of the free world, who attributed the disrepair of West Berlin to the fact that, the Soviet bloc was too afraid to compete with the free world in a straight forward manner.
This was only partially true, anyway, Alan Wilson was not prepared to compete with the Eastern Europeans, the Soviet Union had not been ineffective in building up the country for so many years, and the quality of the population in Eastern Europe was incomparable to that before World War II.
Really liberalized competition, Eastern Europe are under the control of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom will not have to consider the Japanese competition, Eastern European countries will quickly replace Japan, and Western European countries to form competition.
After an impassioned speech, Kennedy began a tour of Europe, united the free world to deal with the Soviet threat, this unity refers to the unity in the United States as the core of the free world. And London was the last stop on Kennedy’s European tour.
Alan Wilson had to be offended by the itinerary assigned by this frakking American president to return to London to see what was going to be talked about. Neither did Hepburn, who hadn’t spent enough time in Scotland.
