Chapter 1137: David’s Christmas
There were undeniably still many benefits to the milestone of European defense, such as being able to use it to ask for a price from the United States.
Alan Wilson, in an enthusiastic tone, told his wife about the progress made on airline cooperation. This is all heavenly for the airlines that exist within the UK, which are already extremely implosive, and even more so for the Mountbatten Group, which is motivated to go down the Lockheed route.
The Windsor Castle Hotel in Paris, opened across the street from Woodpecker Pictures, a location that helps Alan Wilson, express his loyalty to the British Empire, and from the location, it’s also quite good, the first choice of many movie stars, but also the place where many young boys and girls live out their dreams.
Here is the least lack of, is to want to overnight popularity of the dreamers, although in Alan Wilson’s view, no matter what industry once the suitors are many, are inevitably involution.
This won’t show anything special just because of the movie industry, otherwise the dilemma of Xiangjiang movies in the twenty-first century wouldn’t have appeared, the faces twenty years ago and twenty years later are almost the same, but people will get old, the face value will collapse, a few stars struggling to set in the first line are unlikely to save the movie industry’s declining fortunes.
Fortunately, this would not be the case on the European side, and France, as the movie powerhouse of Europe, was still quite attractive.
“Do you have your eye on that little star.” Between rocket rides, Hedy Lamarr sourly inquired if the man on equal footing with her husband was showing signs of a change of heart.
“Why, when I’m still a young lad? Don’t think too much of it, dear.” Alan Wilson calmly explained that he wouldn’t have known who Brigitte Bardot really was if it weren’t for Hedy Lamarr mentioning the name.
There wasn’t much of a gap in age, but Alan Wilson felt that he and Brigitte Bardot were almost two generations removed. The star, who was widely acclaimed in France and almost had the same status as Taylor and Hepburn in England, did not cause waves in his mind.
Hedy Lamarr had definitely misunderstood, he was just feeding his eyes as he passed by, and definitely didn’t have any non-interesting thoughts.
“Who knows if what you’re saying is true or not, you men all like young ones.” Hedy Lamarr muttered in a small voice, also engaging in a moral abduction of sorts.
Even after doing her best to stay in shape, Hedy Lamarr could still feel that she really wasn’t young anymore. There was no longer the glamor of the Hedy Lamarr Kiss that raised twenty-five million dollars back in the day.
As soon as the words were out of her mouth, the afflicted First Vase of All Time was held up by a pair of hands, and the Executive Undersecretary was now going to savor the flavor of twenty-five million dollars.
“I have given so much to the British Empire.” Before parting, Alan Wilson faced the two Woodpecker Studios chairwomen and lamented his labors.
He would have loved to stay for Christmas if it were possible, but the responsibilities placed on his shoulders had to bring him back to London to take care of his wife’s side of the family.
Marshal Mountbatten, too, expressed his gratitude for his son-in-law’s work of rolling over and surviving in the cracks. Although he came from a naval background, as the full-time commander-in-chief of the three British services, he also had to be even-handed and take care of the needs of all the services.
He could not assume that the requirements of the Air Force were irrelevant to him, and fortunately his son-in-law had been working hard as a result.
With the advancement of aerospace technology, the status of missiles is rising, and even the Air Force, which has been looked at differently since the war, is feeling the pressure of competition if anything.
Military spending is something that is never enough for the military, and the government won’t let it climb indefinitely. Being able to find a relief valve would naturally be appreciated by the military.
“I can’t believe I’m picking on a son-in-law like this like never before?” Mountbatten thought of stopping his daughter’s relationship with Allen Wilson during the British India period, and his words were not without remorse.
“Honorable Marshal, in my place, I might have reacted the same way as you. Your own daughter is always different.” Alan Wilson replied with a big smile, “But for now, it turned out well.”
Field Marshal Mountbatten nodded and turned the tables, “The pressure on military spending is real, and in this day and age, no matter how much money is invested, it’s not nearly enough for the development of military equipment.”
“After this round of investment, I believe it will be much easier in the future.” Alan Wilson smiled and reassured, at least compared to the United States, it was definitely easy, Britain, no matter what, would not dive headfirst into the deep pit of Vietnam.
Britain is still quite restrained on the issue of war, although there is the Boer War kind of quagmire, but in terms of gold reserves, Britain’s choice can not be said to be wrong, replaced by other countries can not be indifferent? He did not think so.
But Vietnam that kind of place, in the eyes of the United Kingdom can not have such a value, choose a hundred times, the United Kingdom a hundred times will not be in that kind of place, the United States, this son, in the view of the problem is still not the United Kingdom so calm.
In the gold standard is still quite solid, this round of Britain’s armament smooth renewal completed, the United States of America’s armament replacement cycle immediately came, of course, the United States can choose to retain the present huge armament.
But the tough to retain the old platform, the cost is not necessarily less, this is definitely a dilemma. It is to see how the United States will make the trade-off at the time, retaining eight million tons of naval tonnage, maintenance is also an astronomical figure.
Marshal Mountbatten nodded his head, agreeing with his son-in-law’s statement about the cycle of armament replacement, “The destination of the United States’ military spending is indeed quite suspicious, but it’s not good for us to ask about it.”
“That’s true!” Alan Wilson replied with a smile, “It’s not terribly difficult for Britain to maintain its relative supremacy, besides, isn’t there France rushing ahead?”
For eight hundred years, although France has always been annoying, but at this time now, Britain needs a head iron waif like France to help Britain draw fire from the United States, or else by virtue of Britain’s own, this general environment is indeed very difficult.
Hope is there, Alan Wilson is also willing to this hope, has been working hard.
David was the first to wake up early on Christmas morning, just after dawn. He was momentarily and deeply disappointed to see no stockings hanging by the fireplace. He had been so disappointed years ago when his little stocking had fallen to the floor because it had been stuffed too full of candy.
A little later, remembering his mother’s promise, he quietly put his hand under the pillow and did feel for a book with a fichu red cover. She was very familiar with the book, for it contained classic stories of some of history’s finest characters.
Vivienne felt that it was just the kind of guidebook that any pilgrim on a long journey needed. She woke her son with a “Merry Christmas” and asked her to see what was under her pillow.
David pulled out a green-covered book with the same illustrations, and his parents had inscribed it, making the gift even more precious. A short while later, David came downstairs to see his parents sitting and watching television, discussing it as they watched, and before he knew it, the east was red and a new day had begun.
“You’re awake, my boy.” Vivienne, a little embarrassed, tried to wriggle out of Alan Wilson’s embrace but was unsuccessful, giving the man a somewhat sheepish glare.
“Merry Christmas, Mother! Thank you for the book you gave me. We read a little, and we’ll read it every day from now on,” replied David, making a good-natured show of being oblivious to his parents’ mushiness.
“Merry Christmas, child! I’m so glad you’re going to start studying right away, so stick to it… but I’d like to say a few words before you sit down. Not far from here lies a poor woman and a new-born baby. Six children were huddled together in a bed to keep from freezing, for they had no fire to keep them warm. There was no food there, and the oldest child came to tell me they were cold and hungry. Child, if you saw that, would you give them breakfast for Christmas?”
I just heard Vivienne gush, “I’m so glad that you are so obedient and don’t need me to worry. Woo hoo ……”
Being in the body of a mother to set up the three views of the education of her son, Fei Wenli said upbeat, but a hand covered the mouth of the Great British Treasure, Alan Wilson rushed to his son and nodded his head, “Don’t listen to your mother.”
Then a look of helplessness rushed to Fei Wenli said, “I don’t mind to use good intentioned lies, establish the child’s upward mobility, but dear, when you lie, can you be close to reality some? The state of life you’re talking about is very much like England before World War I.”
If you can’t lie, don’t say it, Alan Wilson really couldn’t look at such lies, and he could tell that Vivien Leigh’s well-intentioned lies hadn’t even fooled his son.
“There’s a school event today.” David spoke up at this point, “There are some programs to prepare for, I still have to go back.”
“There’s something else.” Alan Wilson inquired as he looked at his son’s expression, “Say what you have to say directly.”
“The school wants parents to attend, but I’ve declined.” David’s tone was breezy.
“Vivian, come along.” After Alan Wilson heard this, he directly rushed at Vivian Li.
Vivian Li was stunned, her eyes were wet all of a sudden, and she hugged the man without letting go, constantly kissing Alan Wilson on the cheek.
Private school morning charity activities and celebrations spent a lot of time, the rest of the time will be used to prepare for the evening festivities, the school asked to make their own props, the students then give full play to their talents – need is the mother of invention – what is needed, they will do what.
Some of the creations were quite ingenious – guitars made of cardboard, old lamps made of tinfoil wrapped around old butter bottles, brightly colored gowns made of old cotton cloth, brightly covered with tiny pieces of pewter from a pickle factory, and armor encrusted with the same diamond shaped pewter, which had been left over from canning at the pickle factory, were all used in the preparation of these hand-made props.
It was with these handmade props that all of them opened the Christmas party and put on a show for their parents who had come over to see them.
