Chapter 1394 – The Real Deal
Nehru would not have made the dangerous decisions he did had it not been for the unprecedentedly inflated public opinion in the first place, the problem was also that her father, who was the number one man in India at the time, although already considered a moderate in the entire government, was to take the blame for the end result.
The end result was that the Indian army was a flop on the roof of the world and the voices that were militant at the time turned into an opposition force against Nehru as if nothing had anything to do with them.
Now after almost a decade, the same atmosphere was again prevailing in India and Indira Gandhi could never repeat Nehru’s mistake and after Sam Manekshaw left, Indira Gandhi called two important ministers to come to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The two important ministers of the present government had long been unhappy with the delay in the army showing Indian bravery, and in fact in recent times the finance and defense ministers had been advocating the removal of Sam Manekshaw and replacing him with a more courageous general to lead the military campaign against Pakistan.
“In the midst of the first two wars with Pakistan, we have not made this enemy fearful of India.”
Indira Gandhi spoke to two important cabinet ministers, “Once East Pakistan succeeds in becoming independent, this will be a major event that will change the geopolitical landscape, and is likely to cause resentment in the neighboring countries, and this purpose is what we want to strive for, which is why it is important to be well-prepared financially, diplomatically, and militarily. Do you agree with this, two ministers?”
Since the second Indo-Pakistani war, foreign relations have been the top priority for India to face, and if Pakistan had been a very easy country to defeat, Prime Minister Shastri would not have agreed to the joint mediation of Britain and the Soviet Union and traveled to Stockholm to shake hands with the Pakistanis.
Indira Gandhi has now achieved the same authority as Nehru did in the beginning, and this has naturally come through struggle, not least through several previous exchanges between Deputy Prime Minister Desai, and, ultimately, a split in the Congress party’s parliamentary caucus. Both sides claimed to be orthodox, and after a Supreme Court ruling, the Anglo-Gandhi faction was called the ruling faction of the Congress Party, and the Desai camp and the Syndicate faction were called the organizing faction of the Congress Party.
The former adhered to the true spirit of Nehru’s reforms and moderate socialism, while the latter flaunted democratic freedoms, rejected personal autocracy, represented the interests of big business and industry and sought proximity with the Liberal Party and the Indian People’s League.
The issue of Tupang was also a matter of great concern to Indira Gandhi. Naturally, Nehru tried to solve the Tupang problem, but he only took back the administrative power of the Tupangs, and the hundreds of Tupang maharajahs were still able to speak their minds on their own acres of land, and they were also able to receive security payments from the central government of India.
She certainly wants to solve the Tupang problem once and for all, but the difficulties are the same as those of her father, Nehru, who needed a war to gain unprecedented national support to have such prestige.
“The Soviet Union can be fought for, on the British side we will have to fight for limited neutrality, as for our neighbors to the north, nature will help us to block their routes southward, and most importantly the United States, we must guard against potentially hostile acts from the U.S. The U.S. Navy won’t be hampered by heavy snowfalls.”
“In many cases we supported the West. That’s when the Eastern bloc criticized us and called us vulnerable. Similarly, the Western world attacked us when we supported the Soviet Union, or, perhaps, when we supported the Afro-Asian bloc countries more.”
Indira Gandhi’s eyes were sharp, “Winning over the Soviet Union, defending against Britain, and being ready for American intervention, if we fail to do all these three, the best that can happen is that the first two wars with Pakistan will go the way of the previous wars, and if the situation becomes even more tense, there is no way to say that the fiasco of ’62 will not repeat itself.”
“The time is not ripe for a large-scale attack, but some sporadic firefights are not something I’m personally opposed to. We need to get a good enough diplomatic environment for the country to buy time for the military.”
The support of the two heavyweight cabinet ministers was very important to Indira Gandhi, explaining the military’s attitude and his own thoughts on supporting the military, the two cabinet ministers eventually expressed Indira Gandhi’s support one after another.
“Indira Gandhi will visit London in due course?” Holding the diplomatic document handed over by Wick, Alan Wilson only slightly regained a little bit of his senses, temporarily stepping out of the state of enjoying the warmth of spring and muttering to himself as he flipped through the contents, “It seems that India hasn’t taken care of the Soviet Union yet. Diplomatic efforts are still not enough, hence Indira Gandhi’s trip to Europe.”
“Not being able to handle the Soviet Union might be a good thing for us.” Wick was pleased, India was after all a former British colony and defecting to the Soviet Union was certainly not good news.
“It’s not that simple in this case, the Indians will never forget the defeat of nineteen-sixty-two, and we and the Americans can’t do much to help.” Allen Wilson raised an eyebrow, recalling the full extent of the diplomatic sphere during the war that year, what with the loss of Third World leadership, it was too general.
When we learned that the war had just broken out, fifty-three countries back and forth supported India at the diplomatic level, accusing India of being the enemy.
And when the news of India’s defeat came, only eighteen countries expressed their sympathy for India, before and after only one month. Nearly one less supporting country a day would have been too much for Britain to bear.
India needs the Soviet Union more than it needs Britain and the United States, Britain and the United States is no ground force can help India to contain the ground threat, so this matter, Wick optimistic too early.
Alan Wilson still forwarded this document to the Prime Minister, this year is the time of the outbreak of the Indo-Pakistani war, but in fact, the biggest thing is the return of a major power to the United Nations, which is the big thing to pay attention to.
For Britain this was not a problem, at least during the time of Prime Minister Aidan, Alan Wilson had heard similar discussions about a certain great power changing its pro-Soviet policy, even if it was neutral. Britain also immediately broke diplomatic relations with the fraudulent island and supported the return to the United Nations.
But in fact, he knew in his heart that the biggest obstacle was the United States, and Britain had to take a common position with the United States, and the good thing is that civil exchanges between China and the United States have resumed in the past year, which can be considered a sign. It is estimated that now Washington is also discussing, how to roundly abandon the fraudulent island.
Harold Wilson was also really enthusiastic about Indira Gandhi’s trip to Europe, but the topic of conversation came to the matter of returning to the United Nations, “Alan, you seem to be an expert on the Orient.”
“I wouldn’t deny it, Honorable Prime Minister.” Alan Wilson replied very calmly, “After all, it’s something that’s known up and down Whitehall, so I wouldn’t be able to refute it.”
“Actually, we have never been hostile towards them, from your perspective, what are the benefits of the two countries resuming diplomatic relations.” Harold Wilson opened his mouth to inquire.
Alan Wilson a tactical backward, with a thoughtful look said, “First of all, it is beneficial to suppress inflation, this is the first thing that comes to my mind.”
“Now the domestic inflation is okay, right?” Harold Wilson was a little surprised, could it be that the statistics handed to him by Whitehall were false or shielded from public opinion?
“The prime minister misunderstood, I didn’t say that inflation is high right now, but the Fed overissued a few hundred billion dollars on the international market.”
Alan Wilson shrugged, “De Gaulle said that the dollar overissuance allowed the United States to take the printer’s paper and exchange it for European countries’ commodities, although he was right, but considering the special relationship between Britain and the United States and the sterling area is a similar thing just not on such a large scale, we naturally can’t admit it. An overissued dollar that isn’t pegged to commodities would have the US swallowing all the inflation, which I’m sure I wouldn’t want if I were an American, it’s better to have the world share the inflationary pressure.”
It’s not like this is anything new, it’s what the UK did when the world currency was the pound, it’s just a bit older and many countries have forgotten about it.
The United States from the Bretton Woods system to meet the operation also do so, only not as big as the twenty-first century to do so, the twenty-first century U.S. inflation of course can be solved.
Think about it before and after the oil crisis, the price of oil quadrupled, not the Vietnam War overshooting the United States digested it.
In the twenty-first century, it is estimated that if the price of oil stabilizes at three hundred dollars and is generally accepted by the world, the United States will be able to get through the inflation problem. The only problem is that American citizens will certainly have to suffer for a few years as well, and that can’t be avoided.
“Alan, you’re too pessimistic, aren’t you?” Harold Wilson let out a forced laugh before saying, “We have North Sea oil to withstand this tidal wave of dollars, and we still have the sterling area.”
“The Prime Minister is so right.” Alan Wilson wanted to sing the Prime Minister’s praises, although these preparations had nothing to do with the Wilson in front of him, they were all preparations made by him, Wilson.
There is also the oil in the Gulf of Guinea in Africa, the oil in Malaya, the oil pipeline in South Sudan, the UK can be said to be well prepared in order to deal with the oil crisis. Assuming that Britain does not want to be at least one of the countries that took over the dollar overshoot, how come the fallout from the dollar overshoot must not be delayed for two more years?
Oil is only a part of this discussion, Allen Wilson simply means that the currency is to be pegged to commodities, which is also the reason that Britain should pull the Bengalis in the course of this possible war between India and Pakistan, in how to say that there are 60 million people, make do with a few years to deal with the use of.
“Speaking of this issue, if it is really very unfortunate that India and Pakistan use Bengal as a battlefield, I see that we can work together with the Gulf countries to aid, or rather support, Bengal after the war.” Harold Wilson, as the current Prime Minister, naturally immediately cited the fact that the money could not be paid by Britain itself.
“I see no problem, what these emirates lack is influence.” Alan Wilson as if enlightened, face written with the prime minister’s high opinion agreed.
Clocking out of work, Alan Wilson has something else, Her Royal Highness is not feeling well, I hope that he will right the bones for it, not to go is not to embrace the royal family, he is so in love with the royal family, he must go.
