Chapter 1524 – Fine Ford
While the strike was being dealt with, negotiations continued with the trade union side, and for once the government and the unions were in the midst of a stalemate in which the greatest victim was undoubtedly Britain itself, but both sides felt that they had no choice.
Whitehall has continually emphasized that a general demand for pay rises across all sectors, once achieved, would do nothing but allow prices to rise to the point where they would eat up their share of the increase.
Crucially, it would almost certainly weaken the international competitiveness of the pound, leading it into the midst of volatility so that the ultimate loss would still be Britain’s, while extolling the role of the Labor Party in defending Britain at its most perilous time.
“Let’s state bluntly that Prime Minister Callaghan has always defended the interests of the trade unions, but couldn’t the reason why the unions’ demands were considered excessive on this occasion be the simplest of reasons, were the demands of the unions and the strike participants really excessive? The strikers don’t care if inflation in the UK gets out of control as a result, all they care about is the false comfort of numbers.”
Alan Wilson defended the government’s hardline policy in an exclusive radio interview with the bbc, “It’s not the Bretton Woods system of money any more, in the age of sovereign currencies the government could just as well have printed and sent out as many paychecks as the workers wanted and naturally the result would have been inflation up in the air, all pay rises are no pay rises, and when you’ve got your pockets full of pounds but no commodities to cope with it What’s the point of a pay rise? Let alone a forty percent, twenty-five percent, or one thousand percent pay rise the government could do it, it’s just a matter of adding a zero.”
“This false appeasement effort is beneficial and harmless to Britain itself, and the most important thing is that the pound circulates in more than one country; will other countries sell off their pounds in their hands resulting in the return of the pound? Doing their bit for UK inflation? I don’t think the union strikers ever considered that.”
At the end of the day, Alan Wilson still has to speak for the ruling Labor Party, which is taking a hardline response to the strikes, and there’s no way that support won’t fall away, in fact Callaghan’s support has gone from a five percent lead over Margaret Thatcher to a twenty percent lag in the aftermath of the strikes.
The truckers’ pay rise hasn’t become a reality yet, the Tories’ rising support has.
The words were said, Whitehall also did so, in the negotiations with the president of the Transportation Consolidated Union Jones, Whitehall relayed Alan Wilson’s attitude, not to mention the truckers’ demand for a raise in Whitehall will not be agreed to, the strikers in other industries demanded that Whitehall will not be agreed to the maximum of thirteen percent of the increase in pay, which is the bottom line.
The TV began to report on the medical staff who had come to Britain from Hong Kong and Malaya, warming the hearts of many patients with their superb medical skills at a difficult time for Britain.
Returning home from work, his wife did not come over to greet him, and Pamela informed her father, “Mother is not feeling well today, I think she has a cold.”
Alan Wilson nodded his head and went directly upstairs to the bedroom, he saw his wife lying sickly in a cup, directly kissed Pamela Mountbatten on the forehead and said, “Is it a long time since I had a winter in England, not too accustomed to it, and recently, although there is no snow, it is indeed bitterly cold weather.”
“The doctor has already looked at it, take the medicine and you will slowly recover.” Pamela Mountbatten felt the warmth of her forehead and dizzily stated that she was fine.
“Still, be careful, you’re not too young after all. Some hot soup should do the trick.” Alan Wilson said as he told his wife to lie back down and went downstairs to make his own bounty.
On this day, the Supreme Authority finally felt that his daughter was still somewhat useful, at least she knew to care for her mother and help herself to the cooking.
“My good daughter, no idea about your own future.” Alan Wilson while simmering the soup, while asking Pamela if she has any interested parties, even Albert is engaged, when the sister can’t have no movement at all, isn’t this a bit abnormal.
“Does father want me to marry out very much? Isn’t it anyone?” Pamela clasped her hands on her waist with a look of non-surprise, as if questioning whether the head of the family was going to throw her out.
“As long as you like what have I got against it, uh, can’t say the same, that baboon won’t do, too ugly looking.” Out of the rigor of a Cabinet Secretary, Alan Wilson still backtracked a bit.
“I can’t see him yet, he’s really not good looking, I’d have to have a handsome one.” Pamela made a best thinking gesture, “It doesn’t have to be an aristocrat, you don’t care about that anyway father.”
“That’s true, I am a commoner myself, nuisance ……” Allen Wilson tasted the salty, directly carrying the soup upstairs also did not forget to command, “My daughter is just young, should not need me to take care of it, right? I don’t think I need to take care of her, but I’ll take care of her myself.”
In communication with the opposition party, Alan Wilson and Margaret Thatcher met to discuss the views of the strike, the Whitehall’s attitude to the strike, not for the Labor Party’s constant appeasement eventually had to be tough to deal with, nor the Conservative Party in the hope of promising to pay rises at the same time to the trade unions to ensure that the future will not be on strike.
“The unions’ grip on the workers is also weakening, and democracy, whether it’s torn shoes and rotten socks wanting to jump in and have their say, is like a backbencher in the House of Commons who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” Alan Wilson was gentlemanly enough to pour a glass for Mrs. Thatcher, and seeing that the other woman did not move could not help but say, “Margaret, not so much, it’s been years.”
“Sir, we’re talking about work.” Mrs. Thatcher interrupted pointedly and immediately felt that she was the one who had overreacted, as if she took it seriously, “With so many unions, millions of workers on strike, and Whitehall being tough and not doing anything about it, it’s still the country that’s hurting.”
“Ms. Party Leader, we’re the desk officers. It’s good enough to get this far.” Alan Wilson took a sip of red wine and replied, “And Prime Minister Callaghan, from a personal point of view, this time it is true that the government’s authority has been defended, and the approval rate has dropped by a full twenty percent, this year is a general election year, and the impact of this strike will not disappear within a year, what can you do in exchange for you being the Prime Minister?”
“For the sake of Britain, in my place I would have reacted quickly and not delayed until now.” Margaret Thatcher held her head high to make her position clear, but this action was only rewarded with Alan Wilson’s sweeping gaze, as if it had substance, sizing up the pretentious Conservative Party leader.
To say that this point, Alan Wilson in this point is never doubt female politicians, but whether the decisive approach is very useful, that is an unknown.
It may be that the decisive decision will lead to worse results, as in the case of India’s Iron Lady Indira Gandhi, and Israel’s Prime Minister Mrs. Meir.
In the electoral system of female politicians, there are consequences, unless they do not want to change the system of the country, take the Soviet Union route, Indira Gandhi’s character is not more than Margaret Thatcher’s iron fist?
After all, Indira Gandhi held the inherent notion of parliamentary democracy, believing that the dictatorship during the Emergency could only be temporary and that sooner or later the original social system should be restored. The economy was better at the time and she believed that public opinion was in her favor.
Soon after the announcement of the general election, the ruling faction of the Congress Party was destabilized within its ranks. Dalit leaders. Jairam, who was the defense minister, quit the Congress party and formed the Democratic Congress Party with dissidents, raising the slogan of fighting for democracy and against dictatorship, and decided to work with the BJP.
Isn’t it a very clear lesson from the past that India’s Iron Lady is currently in opposition, having thrown away thirty years of Congress Party rule since Nehru?
“That part of India cannot be compared to Britain.” Mrs. Thatcher commented dismissively, “Without us in Britain, it’s a geographical term.”
“Well said.” Alan Wilson pulled out the MI6 microcassette recorder from among his pockets, and explained amidst Mrs. Thatcher’s knife-like gaze, “Margaret, don’t get me wrong, I’m just going to have to make some explanations if I’m asked by the Prime Minister when I get back. As the Cabinet Secretary of Whitehall, I cannot meet with the leader of the opposition party without a reason, it violates the principle of neutrality of Whitehall.”
Mrs. Thatcher was full of absolutely no misunderstanding because the man in front of her had a previous record, but what could the Honorable Conservative Party Leader do? There was nothing she could do.
“Pamela has been ill for the past few days and I have to go back to look after her.” Alan Wilson finished off half of the red wine in his glass and got up to say goodbye, “This meeting is still rewarding.”
After saying that, Allen Wilson raised his head and left, and when he left the sea was very gentlemanly to settle the bill without taking advantage of a woman.
“Pamela is sick, I have to go back.” Mrs. Thatcher repeated in a conspiratorial manner, drinking a glass of red wine in front of her, looking full of indignation.
Alan Wilson was apparently unaware that he, a good husband, had to be talked down to by another woman, and Pamela Mountbatten, having recovered some of her strength, inquired whether the strike had been settled.
“This massive strike, including essential services, has frustrated many ministers in the Labor Party who are close to the unions, they did not expect this reaction from the unions, and the one who has been hurt the most is Prime Minister Callaghan himself, who probably feels betrayed by the unions, and I’ve been checking lately to see if there was a role for a foreign power in this strike, but I haven’t been able to find out. But an example must be made a little, and Ford, who compromised earlier, must pay for it.”
“What are you going to do?” Pamela Mountbatten, holding the bowl, was in a posture very unlike that of a billionaire richest woman, to the point that it was not unlike that of a beggar.
Reaching out to correct his wife’s posture, Alan Wilson said as he thought, “I don’t want to be too tough on the American companies either, so I’ll fine them ten million pounds as a warning. These foreign companies, anyway, have never been supporters of the Labor Party.”
