Chapter 551 – The Five Countries’ Joint Defense
Agriculture is the foundation of industry, and Britain had the foundation for an industrial revolution only after first going through an agricultural revolution.
For most countries, this is a necessity, countries like Australia that get by with a particular advantage in one area are ultimately in the minority.
The world is just so unbalanced, just as all of Latin America had no coal mines, and exhausting them would not have allowed them to compete with the United States in the nineteenth century. It’s useless to try as hard as you can when that infrastructure alone doesn’t exist.
India is just a weak agricultural country with a standard monsoon climate, and the best feature of a monsoon climate is that it is unstable, with rainfall fluctuating up and down between a third less and a third more. Can’t say that there are floods and droughts every year, but one of the two years can certainly be round. Because of the dimensions of India’s high rainfall and high evaporation, most of the disasters encountered are droughts, don’t look at the annual rainfall seems to be a lot, India is a place where water is scarce.
China’s natural conditions are far more than India, and there is no such thing as India so good land to the Indians for nothing, to the Chinese is also unlikely to exceed the Chinese mainland.
Indian agriculture two-thirds of the arable land rely on rainfall for irrigation, the southwest monsoon once the anomaly, the fall harvest crops due to the lack of water will be a large reduction in production. Food production and lead to India’s social prices, so India’s inflation is often directly linked to the Southwest Monsoon is able to come as promised.
India’s total renewable inland freshwater resources are also only half that of China. India itself is in a relatively arid natural ecology. This drought at source is not a man-made result, it is natural.
A country where food is threatened at any time, the agricultural base is not secure, there may be industrial development?
In any respect, the cards in India’s hand are vastly inferior to China’s, and what Nehru and Indira could not do, the old Immortal can do no less.
British Malaya’s climate is not exactly friendly, but the tropical rainforest climate is also much better than India’s weather-dependent monsoon climate, which can’t be helped by the fact that the only colony in temperate zones in the hands of Britain is now called America. And America was also a place that was regularly harvested by the Arctic cold front, and the climate was just as unstable.
British Malaya has been kind of the only colony still worth investing in for Britain so far.
On the issue of steel, Pamela Mountbatten said she could bypass London and source steelmaking facilities directly from the United States. This Alan Wilson agreed, “My dear, I have the power, you have the money, this half a million square kilometers of the colony, will certainly become a source of wealth place.”
“And for the British Empire!” Pamela Mountbatten opened her mouth to add to the gaping hole in her fiancé’s discourse.
The two, actually three, and Princess Margaret were returning to Kuala Lumpur together, and Pamela Mountbatten had to return to Paris to gather the French shareholders to discuss the Libyan exploration.
At the same time Pamela Mountbatten had to keep an eye on the purchase of steel making equipment, and the breeding stock and seeds that her fiancé needed. Although it was very busy, but she was also very happy, the so-called close to the vermilion, close to the ink, touching a man who likes to work, she also became a woman who likes to be busy.
“If you can talk to the Honorable Minister of the Sea about opening the Elizabeth and Warrior and sailing them to Malaya, I think the Minister of the Sea will also be very happy.” Alan Wilson hugged Pamela Mountbatten’s body and made a suggestion that was definitely not excessive.
“If it doesn’t add to the burden on military expenses, I suppose it could.” Pamela Mountbatten nodded, she didn’t feel that her father didn’t have the power to do this, as a daughter she knew her father well and loved to stick her nose into things she happened upon.
“Leave the question of costs to me. I’ll make an account that will be accountable to all parties.” Alan Wilson mused, “If you want British Malaya to bear part of the military expenses, it would be best to do it as soon as possible. Because right now Malaya is only just trending towards getting better, it would be most appropriate to shift the burden at this time. Once there is really a certain foundation instead it is not good to do it.”
Alan Wilson remembers about the establishment of high-speed rail things, China is also the discussion, there are many people think that for China at that time, the establishment of high-speed rail cost is too huge, should wait until the economy is again generous generous time to implement.
Those in favor of the establishment of the opinion that the economy is good after the construction costs will also increase, to support the labor cost is not yet high when it seems to increase the burden, but in the long run is to save money. In the end China then started building a high speed rail network when it was not yet very rich.
This thing put on the UK, became my Great Britain base fuck, first-class technology into second-rate equipment. They killed the heavy carriers to save money, and built light carriers with the idea that they would be enough, which resulted in small savings on the hulls, but big savings on the electronics, which were updated very quickly.
It also ended up with a hull that was too small to improve combat effectiveness much even after spending a lot of money on modifications.
Cornering his fiancée with a few examples of this thinking, Pamela Mountbatten nodded thoughtfully, “So that means that heavy aircraft carrier construction is the best way to save money on the military?”
“Of course dear, two Malta class carriers bring the same effect as an escort carrier? Aircraft are also getting bigger and bigger, do the smaller carriers have enough room to land and take off bigger and bigger aircraft?”
Alan Wilson thought nothing of expressing his approval of heavy carrier construction, stating that leaving room for improvement in large carriers is the real money saver, rather than focusing on small amounts of money on the hull.
“Seems like you should be Secretary of State for the Sea, huh?” Pamela Mountbatten took Alan Wilson’s idea of advising her father, through himself, in stride, and as they spent more time together, her knowledge in that area began to soar.
Ellen Wilson gave her fiancée a death stare and schmoozed, “When it comes down to it, you can’t do it without money. Given the choice, I’m sure the cabinet wouldn’t want to cut military spending, so my job is still important.”
While Alan Wilson was worried about the development of British Malaya, the garrison commander, Lieutenant General Bilton, on behalf of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, Portugal, Australia and New Zealand, signed a five-nation defense treaty against the threat of Indonesia’s proliferation of Greater Indonesianism.
He only found out about it after Lt. Gen. Bilton had signed it. After all, he was the key military man! Allen Wilson was an administrative commissioner, the two men’s division of labor was different, and there was no need for Lieutenant General Bilton to divulge it.
However, Allen Wilson had a very obedient and well-behaved fiancée, and still knew about this matter immediately from his father-in-law.
The information provided by Mountbatten indicated that this was a response to the Sukarno regime in Indonesia, which was a threat to local security after independence, before contacting the Netherlands and Portugal, which still had colonies in the region, as well as the stakeholders, Australia and New Zealand, to take a joint response program.
In fact, the UK considered whether to bring in France, which was fighting a fierce battle in Vietnam, but it was considered that the French army itself was at war, and it would not be good to drag the UK into the war quagmire after signing the agreement, so it was dropped.
The five countries will co-operate in defence matters; in the event of any armed attack or threat of force in any form against British Malaya, Dutch Kalimantan and Netherlands New Guinea, and Portuguese Timor, supported by outside organizations or by them, the Governments of the five countries will consult immediately with a view to deciding on measures to be taken collectively or individually to deal with such attack or threat.
The five nations will establish a locally unified air defense system; a Joint Consultative Committee, a Joint Air Defense Committee, and a Joint Force Command of the five nations, which will have under its command a joint force consisting of the land, sea, and air forces of the above nations.
“A five-nation joint defense?” Alan Wilson remembered that Britain did sign a similar treaty with New Malaysia in the 1970s.
This 1950’s version of the Five Nation Joint Defense replaced Sint Ma with Portugal and Holland, which seemed to be a little stronger, and the response was of course still Indonesia.
And of course the outwardly announced target of the defense was a certain northern power. But Allen Wilson knew that Indonesia, close at hand, was the real object of defense.
This was a good thing, and Alan Wilson had been working with the aim of keeping Britain on its back. The signing of the treaty of the five countries’ joint defense could also deter Indonesia in the near future, and at least give British Malaya a sense of security.
There was enough security to develop properly, and anyway, he had never seen that country with unending wars still have a rising economy.
Having a military agreement to help Australia and New Zealand is also good for the current UK, don’t think that the Five Nation Defense that appeared twenty years earlier is of little use, there is a world of difference in strength between the UK of 1950, and the UK of 1971.
Especially not so long ago, the United Kingdom has just completed the Hurricane operation, successful possession of nuclear weapons, turned around and pushed the emergence of the five countries of the United Nations defense, has an extremely powerful deterrent effect.
Going to the Office of Indonesian Affairs and then returning, Alan Wilson had in his hands a few more copies of an Indonesian newspaper, slamming the subversive activities of the imperialist countries against Indonesia, stating that it was a containment tactic by the European colonizers who were afraid of the development of post-independence Indonesia.
“Containment is containment, fear is not to be talked about.” Putting down the newspaper, Allen Wilson picked up the phone to give instructions for the work of the Office of Indonesian Affairs, “Just spread the word in Indonesia that it is the United States that is supporting the emergence of the Five Nation Alliance Defense. What do you care if it’s believable or not, most people just believe in conspiracy theories, and if you tell a lot of lies, you can always run into a few idiots.”
Unsurprisingly Jakarta was furious about the Five Nation Defense Treaty, which was in line with Alan Wilson’s thoughts, instead of being angry he had to ponder if there was some conspiracy going on, and the clock just went into June with the sun blazing! It seemed that there was little Indonesia could do but be angry, but the problem was not with Indonesia, it was elsewhere.
