Chapter 79: Sudden Incident
The parade of the troops of the four nations on parade, the Red Flag’s 248th Infantry Division, the French 2nd Infantry Division, the British 131st Infantry Brigade, and the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division, began from the Reichstag to the Brandenburg Gate in full view of the more than 20,000 citizens of Berlin.
The parade order for the infantry squads began with the Soviet soldiers, and on the podium, Field Marshal Zhukov of the Soviet Union, Field Marshal Montgomery of Great Britain, General Eisenhower of the United States, and General Dratel de Tassigny of France, representing the high-profile Allied commanders, stood side by side.
Accompanied by majestic military music, Soviet soldiers walked goose-steps, one by one, past the podium, while not far from the wall hung giant portraits of the Allied triumvirate, Churchill, Truman and Stalin. Reporters from various countries, cameras in hand, took pictures of the lineup, and although Allen Wilson didn’t have a camera in his hand, his eyes didn’t leave the separation. Whether it is recognized or not, in this matter of military parade, compared with socialist countries, Britain, the United States and France side is really almost interesting.
If there is no Soviet Red Army soldiers parade, the small commissioner is lazy to come, why not go to see the mass parade.
Sure enough after the Soviet soldiers walked across the podium in a dignified manner, the French square on parade appeared and looked inferior.
“The French parade square doesn’t seem too serious!” Humiliated French vanguard Eiffel muttered in a low voice.
“We are allies!” Alan Wilson reminded gently, but whoever had maliciously arranged the order of the Soviet Union followed by France, it did look like the French soldiers weren’t very good in comparison.
Of course this is only the two diplomats’ one-sided understanding, any national square that appeared, have murdered a lot of film, and there is no lack of applause, can not hold prejudice because it is the French square.
After the foot squares had finished, the heavy weapons squares began with the UK, with the Soviet Union in the finale. The British troops on parade were from Field Marshal Montgomery’s 7th Armored Division, a British ace that had been famous since the North African campaign, and had just come out to the cheers of all the Brits in attendance.
Seventh Armored Division pulled out to participate in the parade of the finale weapon, is the Comet Cruise Tank, the North African battlefield, British tanks on the tanks do not have a gun that can destroy the German tanks. This is one of the reasons why the British army suffered successive defeats. For this reason, the British Ministry of Defense decided to develop a cruise tank with more powerful firepower on the basis of the Cromwell Cruise Tank, which is the origin of the Comet Tank.
The main gun of the Comet cruiser tank was the seventeen-pounder known as the strongest tank gun of the Allied Forces on the Western Front, and although Alan Wilson, who was the Commissioner of Hyderabad, had been trying to think of a way to sell this tank to the Indians, since it was his own child, naturally it was all about the merits, and Alan Wilson joined in the cheering.
He certainly has reason to cheer, the U.S. Army’s Sherman tanks, simply not stronger than the Comet cruiser tanks, some indicators are not as good as the Comet tanks, not with the Soviet Union and Germany, those animals compared to the U.S. Army compared to the 1945 British Army is no slouch at all, than can not be good is not compared to the rotten it is, this is a more than the world of rotten.
With France and the United States of America’s heavy weapons parade, the heavy weapons parade finale of the Soviet Union, the heavy tank regiment of the Second Tank Group of Kintetsu appeared on the scene.
“What’s that?” General Eisenhower stared at the emergence of the Soviet tanks, this is unheard of and not mastered by the U.S. Army of the Soviet tanks, but from the horrific appearance, it can already be seen that this Soviet tanks, Britain and the United States of America’s current tanks are absolutely no match for the huge main gun seems to have the power to destroy everything.
Than simply curious about the performance of the weapon Marshal Montgomery, General Eisenhower obviously pay more attention to the deeper issues, this is not the Soviet Union through this parade, show military power to deter the United States, Britain and France?
The generals and officers in the audience were all talking. This was a new type of combat vehicle they had never seen before. Its round turret and unique body shape impressed the generals of the Allied countries.
Two rows of IS-3 heavy tanks in formation slowly drove past the podium, causing a murmur, while Marshal Zhukov looked smug, in contrast to the officers of the other countries.
Eisenhower noticed this as well, and was just about to open his mouth to shut up and not be made a fool of by the Soviets, when a staff officer quickly came to Eisenhower’s side and whispered something in a very fast voice.
“What?” General Eisenhower lost his voice, obviously this event than just the Soviet heavy tanks, more made him lose his temper.
Eisenhower’s loss of composure caused a flurry of sideways glances as the Soviet tanks had just passed by, and many thought it was a new Soviet weapon that had frightened the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Army.
Eisenhower, however, had no time to think about such things, the news that had just come through was more important than the Soviet tanks in front of him, and directly whispered orders to his staff, “Is it pouring into Austria now, why don’t we stop them.”
“The only force in Austria that can hold the border is the Soviet army, there is no army in our occupied area.” The staff officer let out a bitter laugh, “The American, British and French forces have not yet officially entered Austria, there is only a nominal force, and it was supposed to be talked about in the upcoming conference.”
Eisenhower’s head buzzed, looking at it that way it was indeed an oversight that had led to such serious consequences.
The problem was that he simply couldn’t fix it, it wasn’t something that he or Field Marshal Zhukov could decide. Only the current leaders of the countries could decide about when they would be able to move into Austria for a four-nation occupation.
“General Eisenhower, the Field Marshal asked me to ask if you are not feeling well somewhere?” Before General Eisenhower could think of a solution, a Soviet officer came over and greeted him in proficient English.
The huge fleeing group, after marching throughout the night, had approached the German-Austrian border. Fueled by the desire to survive, these refugees, who were approaching the German border step by step, not only did not show any fatigue.
The women and children were in the front and the adult men in the back, full of the desire to survive, keeping up the pace of the march throughout the night.
General Eisenhower, who was still at the Berlin parade, finally stuck it out and immediately had his staff liaise with the American agencies in Austria to figure out what state this group of refugees was in and where exactly their destination was, while informing the British representatives of the movement along the border.
In fact, Allen Wilson in the end of the parade, but also know the news, who let him before is specialized in dealing with this matter of liaison officer it, although the heart knows, but Allen Wilson also understands that this matter absolutely can not be clever, concealment and non-reporting is not possible, and quickly went to the Cabinet Secretary Edward Bridges’s residence to report.
