Chapter 807: Returning to the Free World
The NATO joint military exercises in the second half of the year were essentially irrelevant to him as a colonial official, and he didn’t care what came out of it.
All in all, not as important as the two movie queens who were about to return to Paris, and continuing his life of five days on and two days off was what he wanted.
Early in the morning of the weekend, Allen Wilson was still in bed whistling, in the middle of the bathroom, the two movie queens who love cleanliness were flirting with each other under the shower, and making moves on each other.
“Look at you last night, hey!” Hedy Lamarr tsked, her eyes sweeping over Ingrid Bergman’s nuclear bomb of a body, “Who can top that for the average guy.”
“And you don’t have to talk about me!” Ingrid Bergman raised her neck to the nozzle, narrowed her eyes and sneered back, “You’re not so bad, I don’t know who it was, hugging his waist and encouraging, when you were in Hollywood, you were sought after by thousands of people. Than the current Monroe is also not bad at all, today even to this point.”
“Don’t feel like arguing with you.” Hedy Lamarr terminated revealing each other and took a white bath towel to wipe her body.
The beautiful scene had been taken in by Allen Wilson, who had appeared at an unknown time, and the imperial commissioner, who had come with a shaking stick, walked into the bathroom with a big grimace, and out of consideration for equality between men and women, no one could engage in privilege, and he had to wash as well.
The result is that the personal hygiene issues are once again prolonged, but the process, absolutely wonderful.
The two two coveted movie queens were already leaving, and at this point it was not a good idea to disobey the child’s father.
“It’s been so long, I miss my daughter too. I should also go back to visit, don’t let my daughter in not recognize me by then.” Ingrid Bergman sat at the dining table and looked at the man serving food and said.
Hedy Lamarr also nodded her head, indicating that she also thought the same way, her son was not yet old enough to always have his mother absent.
“Tough luck ladies.” Alan Wilson spoke with some apologies, handing over two sausages to fill the stomach of the movie queen who had just eaten English sausages, “Although my heart is not sad, the issue of the next generation is also important. How can I snatch a mother’s love from a child?”
“You rob less?” Hedy Lamarr blankly glanced at the man, she didn’t believe a word of this kind of tongue-in-cheek pretense.
Allen Wilson coughed softly to hide his embarrassment and said under his breath, “Gotta give me a little bit of generosity. The child needs it, don’t I need it. The world should be kinder to men. You all don’t know how much pressure I’m under and need a woman to talk to.”
“I don’t usually see you confiding at all.” Ingrid Bergman shattered, “Just see you like a brute.”
“Ingrid, you’re a patron of the French women’s movement, aren’t you?” Alan Wilson remembered that he had once taught Ingrid Bergman how to box, and wondered if he had twenty years’ worth of skill now.
Ingrid Bergman nodded her head, she did once listen to the man’s advocacy, cha a bonus, and then asked, “What’s up?”
“Keep an eye on the emigration from South Vietnam. The French withdrawal took quite a few people with it.” Alan Wilson smiled and said, “Let the people you fund talk, you don’t talk. Those who speak in extremes, it shows that you are understanding, you and Heidi are in the movie business, you don’t need me to say that you understand that actresses can’t hold up the box office, it’s the men who shell out the money to sell tickets.”
He didn’t want the women’s movement to spill over into Hedy Lamarr’s and Ingrid Bergman’s careers, whether it was the movie studios or even Louis Vuitton, it was all about getting men to shell out money. Louis Vuitton appeared to be a female clientele, and he’d have to believe it not to realize that women in France were paid only sixty percent of what men were paid.
“I see.” Ingrid Bergman nodded, trusting the man’s good intentions, at least for her.
“Is the tape project still up in the air? That’s an industry that fits well with the French temperament, film and music are both entertainment industries, movies were invented by the French, and tapes would be a huge profit if they were taken down to standard.” Alan Wilson asked Hedy Lamarr, “If it’s okay, promote it as a free standard when you promote it, and get the standard down, there’s a lot more future revenue to be gained than if you just start grasping for patents.”
“I’m keeping an eye on it, and Woodpecker Pictures has injected money to support it, but some problems remain, and reliability is still lacking.” Speaking of business Hedy Lamarr also became solemn and told the progress so far.
Both knew that the man spoke very seriously when it came to issues, and it was completely different from when it came to merriment. It was also true that he had helped both men’s careers immensely, to the point where it could be said that he had given too much.
“It’s good that your lives won’t be disturbed by trivialities.” Alan Wilson nodded and said, “I’ll take you to the airport tomorrow.”
On the last night in Malaya, Ingrid Bergman pestered the Imperial Commissioner for advice on how to box, and unsurprisingly also endured the Commissioner’s jab, which was twenty years in the making, but the Queen of Sweden, with her outstanding hardware, was still able to withstand it.
Left and right Allen Wilson could not sleep, and talked with the two movie queens for a long time until they fell asleep together.
While he labored, the First Sea Lord had completed his mission to the United States and arrived at the Loyal Admiralty. The visit had been a complete success for him, and had started off on a good note just at the beginning of his sitting as First Sea Lord. The desired technical support for nuclear power had been obtained from the Americans.
He was sure that, together with the research Britain had been carrying out, a British nuclear submarine would surely come out in the not too distant future.
At 10 Downing Street, Mountbatten and Prime Minister Adderley reported on the progress of this visit, and also gave an account of the nuclear power technical support that had been exchanged in exchange for Federal Germany’s membership in NATO and joint military exercises with NATO.
“I hope that the American experts will come earlier, only when the experts arrive, we will loosen up on the issue of the Federal Republic of Germany.” But Adderley still remembered that the United States had torn up the consensus of the Quebec Conference and added a lot of obstacles to Britain’s nuclear program.
It could even be said that it was the first major event that Adderley faced after becoming Prime Minister, and he couldn’t afford not to remember it well.
Federal Germany joined NATO, the UK was fine with it, the French were definitely uncomfortable, it was the equivalent of the Germans inviting the Soviet Union to join NATO. The Soviet Union has always been the target of NATO members’ strict defense. The United States, Britain and France, the three nuclear-armed countries within NATO, also aimed most of their nuclear missiles at the Soviet Union, and as soon as the time was right, the United States, Britain, France and the other major NATO members would have launched military action against the Soviet Union, and the reason why they didn’t was because it couldn’t be done.
What Prime Minister Eidley may not realize is that the Germans actually carried out something similar a few decades later. German parliamentarians from the CDU proposed inviting Russia to join NATO, arguing that the move would help secure Europe.
Things change all the time, and today France’s wariness of Germany has not dissipated, and in the future they could also embrace each other.
“Germany’s membership in NATO has become inevitable, and the Americans are very keen for Germany to shoulder the role of blocking the Soviet Union.” General Mountbatten smiled bitterly, “As for what the French think, I believe the French will understand.”
Mountbatten was very perceptive about politics and knew that once the Federal Republic of Germany joined NATO, it would complete a crucial step on the way from enemy to ally. It was also known that although France was concerned that Germany was rearming, the Western Allies had agreed to admit it as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
In a sense, it was inevitable; with a population of nearly sixty million, Germany’s membership in NATO would greatly strengthen the free world, and only with Germany in the fold would NATO not have to worry about the Soviet Union’s numerical superiority.
“Looks like Morrison is going to be busy again these days.” Prime Minister Adderley also knew that things were inevitable, and could only let the Foreign Minister have a good word with the French.
“It would be best to add Adenauer to the mix, and the three of us sit down and talk it over.” General Mountbatten spoke up and suggested, “Knowing each other’s needs while safeguarding the interests of the victorious nation will make things much easier.”
“Good idea.” Prime Minister Adderley’s eyes lit up as he spoke, “Louis, you should actually consider becoming a minister.”
“I am the Minister of the Sea right now.” General Mountbatten, for no reason at all, thought of his son-in-law who was 10,000 miles away, and he remembered clearly the look on Allen Wilson’s face when he heard the term minister.
Almost immediately, the British Foreign Office went into action, inviting the French Foreign Minister, Georges Pidoule, to travel together to Bonn, the German capital, to discuss the matter of Germany’s accession to NATO with Adenauer.
It doesn’t take much thought to realize what Georges Pidoule’s real thoughts were, that he was not interested in Germany joining NATO. But Morrison also made it clear that this was the future that the United States wanted to see emerge, to demonstrate the unity of the free world.
Georges Pidur sighed, what could he say, France, like many European countries, was supported by the Marshall Plan. Although he knew in his heart, and even said publicly in Paris, that for every dollar France accepted, France was one less independent, there was no way around it, dependence on the United States was a fact of life.
In the German capital, Bonn, British Foreign Secretary Morrison, along with French Foreign Minister Georges Pidoule, made clear the British and French position, allowing Adenauer to agree to the conditions of the two countries in exchange for them not putting up obstacles to Germany’s membership in NATO.
The current Federal Republic of Germany, is not yet independent, the three commissioners in Germany still have a lot of say, Adenauer actually have no resistance to the qualification, in addition, this is Germany back to the civilized world of an opportunity, simply can not be given up.
Morrison and George Dupuyre, on behalf of the British and French demands, Adenauer naturally accepted them all.
After a series of contracts were signed, on March 4, the North Atlantic Treaty headquarters in Paris announced that the Federal Republic of Germany joined NATO and became a full member of NATO.
Hedy Lamarr and Ingrid Bergman returned to Paris just in time to hear the news.
