Chapter 927 Commander-in-Chief of the Three Armies Mountbatten
There were two main threats to British rule in Malaya, the geographic threat and the high jumping one being Indonesia.
And the other one across the South China Sea, Allen Wilson could not ignore the latter, except that it would not be proclaimed everywhere.
Even he didn’t know if a major power in a period of high revolution would have a hot head about to liberate the world. In the vein of the Soviet Union in the period after World War I, it was still a strong possibility.
But whoever it was, given the importance of the Malayan colonies to Britain, no one could get a bad idea. According to his thinking, he would rather nuke Malaya than give it to his opponent on the cheap.
“You’re actually worried about the threat to the north, you just don’t usually say if it’s right or not, and downplay the threat when others ask.” Pamela Mountbatten asked as she walked away from Mountbatten’s house.
“I didn’t talk about the threat, I said it wasn’t worth mentioning at the cultural level. China’s culture is not very competitive, but it doesn’t include Marx’s set of ideas, which are spreading.”
Alan Wilson put his hands in his pockets, “The objective threat facing the Malayan colonies certainly exists because of the number of Chinese. But it is not impossible to cope with it, first of all, we have to maintain communication, Lin Lianyu always went to Xiangjiang to contact the Beijing government, also to avoid having misunderstanding.”
“What you mean is that it is inevitable that China wants to spread its influence like the Soviet Union did.” Pamela Mountbatten had a thoughtful look on her face, “Can you block this threat?”
“With the current standard of living in the Malayan colonies, it would not be difficult. But it would be difficult at a level like that of Africa.” Alan Wilson was honest, “That mindset, spreads quickly in poor and war-torn places, both of which Africa has.”
“There’s no way to deal with it?” Pamela Mountbatten stopped and asked solemnly.
“Don’t you worry, it depends on what the mode of infiltration is. If it’s just waiting for an opportunity to expand its influence under the guise of aid, then Britain can acquiesce; after all, making a big deal out of it seems to be overreacting as well. Taking a step back, there are other countries that are building up Africa in some way, and there are benefits for us, and to a certain extent it can be a win-win situation.”
Alan Wilson pontificated to his wife, “But to follow the Soviet Union’s example of creating allies and removing British influence? That might require the use of a little less visible methods.”
“Like what?” Pamela Mountbatten saw the cold look on her husband’s face and felt that things were not simple.
“Such as?” Alan Wilson stopped in place for a moment and suddenly said as he walked, “Such as sending the established Chinese armored division to Africa, sacrificing a colonial capital, and borrowing Britain’s hegemony of public opinion to widely proclaim it, but I don’t want it to really get to that point.”
Alan Wilson was uneducated and not very good at talking, if it really got to that point, and wanted to offset the infiltration of British Africa, there was only one way for him to do it, platooning the Chinese armored divisions that were formed to go to Africa and massacre the city.
Subsequently, Britain will naturally apologize for the lax management, and randomly select two unlucky people to be shot.
At the same time use public opinion to shift the blame and direct the extraction to the Chinese. This should not be difficult, after all, black Africans are not of a high enough standard to necessarily be able to tell the difference, or at least the vast majority of them don’t have the ability to do so.
This trick has actually been used before, think of the CIA’s overthrow of the Sukarno government, it was actually pretty much the same. Except that the Chinese Indonesians were in the same position as the blacks in Alan Wilson’s mouth.
Considering the spread of British East African colonies, Allen Wilson felt that the former German colony of Tanzania was a suitable victim, or at least it would allow Britain to carry a little less of a moral burden, the kind that doesn’t even exist.
After this conversation, Alan Wilson and his wife spent a few days in London, the two not spending much time on the mainland. This time, too, they took the opportunity of Mountbatten’s promotion to Field Marshal to return to London.
Within a few days of the New Year, the official Cabinet appointments were made, and Mountbatten, already a Field Marshal, was appointed Chief of the General Staff for Defense, and Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, considering that the Secretary of Defense was subject to the constraints of the tenure of an elected government, and was usually only an outsider again. Mountbatten was already the de facto Commander-in-Chief of the British Empire’s three armed forces.
Mountbatten knew what the Cabinet was aiming at by promoting him to Field Marshal again and making him Chief of the General Staff and Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee.
To change the fact that the British Army, Navy and Air Force were each in their own way, and to borrow his strong connections in the political field and his good relations with the various branches of the military to achieve this purpose.
So he quickly worked with his aides to put forward three options for the government to choose from for the future structure of Britain’s defense: i. Simple tinkering with the existing system; two. The establishment of a fully integrated and functional Ministry of Defense; three. Allow the three branches of the army, navy and air force to exist separately in their respective headquarters, but must accept the overall leadership of the Ministry of Defense. Of these, Mountbatten believes that the most desirable program is the second set of options.
As for exactly which program to implement, it depends on how bold the current Cabinet is, and when he came home to see the Mountbattens, Mountbatten also told Allen Wilson, “The second program is certainly the best, and if it is not possible to go one step at a time, implement the third program first, and then overdo it toward the second.”
“If the discussion of the cabinet is to decide to take the second option, then the Labor cabinet is really respectable.” Alan Wilson nodded and said, “Do you want me to inquire with Whitehall?”
If the Airdrie Cabinet were to take a step forward and choose to merge into a unified Ministry of Defense in charge of everything.
That would really be bold, knowing that elected governments are limited by tenure and public opinion, it’s actually very difficult to get things done.
Like King Know It All, is he bad at what he does? The fundamentals of all the problems are very well grasped, just too eager to get things done.
For example, the attitude towards Russia, divide China and Russia is right, just how to balance the interests of Europe, that is, Germany and France.
Understand that the king’s choice is the United States to sell European energy at low prices, is also right, but the implementation of the way out, who want to make some in it, the result is that the price is ridiculous.
For example, the epidemic issue, the kind of system and folklore in the US is not suitable for epidemic prevention.
So King Know It All just gave up and then accelerated vaccine development, which was also correct. King Sleeper came to power and Dr. Fudge also said that the way the US is now it would have been better to leave the cities unsealed at that time, as they couldn’t be protected against it anyway.
Usually politicians take both sides and end up dissatisfied with both, King Know It All only cares about his supporters. Wasn’t he forced into this by a four year term when he was in a hurry to fulfill his election promises. Is the United Russia issue something that can change decades of established US policy in just four years?
So for the democratically elected government, the general situation within the term is and the opposition party tug of war, rarely able to implement what long-term plan, Edley cabinet to reorganize the military command structure, if really chose the second option, that can be really great.
It is and the development of a long-term plan is precisely the enemies of the free world, the institutional advantage is on the opposite side, not their own side.
“No need, just wait.” Mountbatten shook his head slightly, “I’m in the process of handing over to Charles Lamb these days, he’s handing over to me as First Sea Lord, I’m about to take up my post at the Ministry of Defense, and from then on I won’t just belong to the Navy.”
“A man always needs a bigger stage.” Alan Wilson patted him on the back without a trace, then said, “Actually, I came to say goodbye, there’s been an incident in Kuala Lumpur and I have to rush back to deal with it. The matter is rather urgent.”
“What’s the big incident?” Mountbatten’s face was solemn after hearing this, there were not many things that could make this son-in-law more urgent.
“I am able to handle it.” Alan Wilson a solemn face, in fact, the heart did not take it seriously at all, it is his previous fishing law enforcement, finally led to the Chinese stormed the Kuala Lumpur’s East Africa office, the blacks inside the spot killed.
How many people died, it was not mentioned in the telegram, only after going back to know, Mountbatten also no longer ask more questions, “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Pamela, I really hope that she stays for a while longer.”
“I’ll speak to her directly, but it’s up to her to decide.” Alan Wilson could understand that, Mountbatten was also almost sixty, and although he was properly worthy of the rank of Field Marshal in terms of his countenance, it was only natural that he would start to value his family at that age.
“I’ll stay a while then, and I’ll see you then.” Pamela Mountbatten felt a little guilty, she didn’t live in London much nowadays, her parents were being looked after by her sister Patricia.
“Well then, I’m in no hurry, I hope my subordinates have figured out how to weasel their way out of this by the time I reach Kuala Lumpur.”
Alan Wilson made a joke, and in his heart, he had already calculated how long it would take to pass through Paris, Rome, and finally arrive in Kuala Lumpur, he was giving his subordinates a time to verify their abilities, and by no means was it anything like going for a test drive in a luxury car.
A few days later, the Chief of Defense Staff, Field Marshal Mountbatten, should be invited by Prime Minister Airdrie to 10 Downing Street, Airdrie Prime Minister met Mountbatten door to door, directly informed the Cabinet meeting on the reorganization of the military command structure of the results of the discussion, “I and Ministers have agreed that the establishment of a unified ministry of defense responsible for the military, the streamlining of the military command structure, as well as a rapid reaction to the threat of the response, would serve a good purpose.”
“I would have thought that the Cabinet would have opted for a transitional program.” Mountbatten didn’t hide his surprise at all in front of the Prime Minister, “In fact, it’s only usual for a government to go with a transition program.”
“Yes, but I chose to take a step forward.” Prime Minister Airdrie held his head slightly high, an aura of killer instinct erupting.
Seeing that the command structure of the War Office, Admiralty and Air Ministry were merged among the Ministry of Defense, Mountbatten was considered to be the actual commander-in-chief of the three British armies, and in a sense, his words were more useful than those of the Secretary of Defense.
Mountbatten also knew what he was about to face, and could only promise, “I will complete this work as soon as possible.”
He knows that his position as Commander-in-Chief of the three armed forces is not for nothing, and that the Labour Cabinet has given him so much power in order to carry out the reorganization of the military institutions to streamline.
