Chapter 28: Hungry Ghosts Take Form
At this chaotic moment, Hu Xueman took out a gun and shouted, “Get out of the way.”
I looked at Hu Xueman in surprise. Could a gun be used against the bug? But everyone else seemed to know what was going on, and they all moved aside. I didn’t move, and I didn’t know who pulled me away.
“That bullet is a special bullet, and it costs a lot. It seems that Captain Hu is angry.” Someone whispered in my ear.
I glanced at the master, who seemed to have reached a critical juncture. His face was an unnatural red, and his body was trembling slightly. I glanced at the middle of the formation again. The bug was still wrapped around the boy. As everyone left, the bug was trying to burrow into the boy’s mouth again. Hu Xueman grabbed a piece of the bug’s body and pointed the gun tightly at the bug, without thinking, he pulled the trigger.
A crisp gunshot echoed through the courtyard, and I don’t know who’s dog it woke up, but it caused a whole bunch of barking.
The bug’s body suddenly stiffened, and then began to quietly move. Yes, Hu Xueman shouted, “What are you still doing? Come out with me.”
The boy tore off the bug on his body and just stood up, but Hu Xueman pulled him out of the circle and stood in a relatively safe position in the crowd.
Once he was standing, the boy began to spit on the ground non-stop. Who wouldn’t be disgusted by this?
So the bug was solved? I looked at the bug lying quietly in the middle of the yard, and then realized that it was a huge bug, as thick as my arm and as long as a meter.
“Captain Hu, we don’t have many bullets left,” someone said.
Hu Xueman said nonchalantly, “I reported to the higher-ups that we were allowed to use two bullets this time. Think about the consequences. This is a massacre! Besides, this is a rural area, and the villages are close to each other. What’s two bullets?”
At this moment, the old monk suddenly stopped chanting and stood up with a loud ‘hoo’. He looked very serious and said, “Do I have to do it myself?”
The crowd was puzzled. The bug had obviously been dealt with, but at this time the bug lying in the middle of the courtyard moved. To be precise, it began to shrink and shorten until it became an oval ball and then stopped.
A crisp sound echoed in the courtyard. Hu Xueman looked at it and his face changed. Wasn’t that the bullet he had just fired?
“Damn it!” Hu Xueman’s face darkened, and he took out another bullet from his pocket and was about to reload his gun.
At this time, Hui Jue walked forward two steps, looked at my master again, and sighed: “Forget it. For killing, I’d rather use Lao Jiang. You don’t need to load the gun. It’s useless. It’s about to transform.”
As he spoke, I saw the most bizarre scene I had seen in the past decade. The oval-shaped thing swelled up, and a clear face seemed to be struggling in pain. The skin around it was almost transparent.
With a muffled ‘pang’, I saw a skinny hand emerge from the skin. Then, with another ‘pang’, another hand emerged!
Hungry ghost! The hungry ghost is finally taking shape. I could hear my own heart beating, and I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my throat. The young hungry ghost was already so powerful, so what about the hungry ghost in its final form?
It is the most ferocious kind of hungry ghost!
Master, what is Master doing? It has been five minutes since the beginning, and Master has not yet made a move. Has he never performed such a long spell before?
I looked back at the master and saw that he had stopped chanting. He suddenly stamped his feet heavily on the ground, as if the entire courtyard was trembling. Then I saw the master’s cheeks bulging, as if a mouthful of blood was about to spurt out. I was worried and wanted to to scream, but then suddenly a cold hand grabbed me. The hand was still trembling. I was scared and looked back. It was Su Rou standing next to me. His teeth were trembling and he said, “Sanwa, the head is out, the head is out.”
I looked, and sure enough, a grayish-green head had broken through the skin, looking exactly like the hungry ghost on the gravestone carving of the gate of the hungry ghost. It had fierce eyes, a large prominent hooked nose, a slightly open mouth like a crack, and four fangs that were faintly visible.
Strangely, it even had thin, sparse hair that quietly surrounded its head, forming a circle.
“What are you doing? Use your own methods to buy time for Old Jiang.” Huijue rushed to the edge of the small circle, sat cross-legged, and this time I saw Huijue take out a wooden fish with a strange color. After sitting down, he struck the first note.
The sound was not loud, but it gave people a strange feeling, as if they could see the sound waves spreading out like water, and then everyone’s heart trembled.
“The crispy meat is entering the house. Close the door. Each of you should concentrate on the secret techniques that your master taught you and then help me.” After Hui Jue finished speaking, he closed his eyes and began to recite scriptures that I didn’t understand. Every few sentences, he would strike the wooden fish. The sound made my whole heart tremble, as if a mountain was pressing down on me.
I dared not be negligent, and began to silently recite the carefully-chosen formulas that my master had taught me. Only then did I feel that my whole body had become clear. To my shame, I discovered that the people around me, including the little boy, had already relaxed. What was even more shocking was that they had all taken out their tools!
Hu Xueman took a bell and shouted, “Everyone use their own suppression methods to stabilize the Yang-an-lock-yin formation.”
Then he watched them each perform their own hand gestures, move their magic weapons, and kick their steps. Each method was different, but they were all exerting themselves to the utmost!
Even the boy was doing a hand seal, laboriously mobilizing his power.
This is a group of Taoist priests!
I found myself somewhat decadent, wondering why I was so useless. I touched the tiger claw hanging around my neck and thought to myself, “Why don’t I risk polluting the tiger claw and rush up and give it another go?”
At this time, the hungry ghost had already emerged from the thin skin, dripping wet, no more than 70 to 80 cm tall. It looked at the people around it with unusually fierce eyes, and suddenly spat out a strange series of sounds.
Only a genius would know what it was saying!
I saw its legs shaking a little, and its eyes seemed to be searching for something. Suddenly, it rushed towards the position where Huijue was sitting in meditation. Huijue’s expression did not change at all, but he made a strange hand gesture above his chest. Suddenly, the sound of his chanting scriptures became much louder, and the hungry ghost retreated again and again.
I had nothing to do, so I opened my third eye and saw the sound coming out of Huijue’s mouth turn into golden swastikas that slammed into the hungry ghost!
As if she had sensed something, Hu Xueman, who had been standing next to me, looked at me in shock and shouted, “Heavenly Eyes? You can open your Heavenly Eyes so easily!”
Is this a strange thing? Hu Xueman’s shout brought me back from the realm of the heavenly eye. I was about to speak when I suddenly heard someone yell, “Come help me, it wants to run, it wants to run out of my position.”
Hu Xueman didn’t have time to say anything, just said, “No wonder,” and then ran to another position. I saw that the hungry ghost had long since given up on the old man’s side of wisdom and wanted to break through from another position.
It just wanted to run!
I looked back at the master. He had his eyes closed and his whole body was still trembling, as if he was enduring something. At this moment, Hu Xueman cursed, “How can we compare with Master Huijue? It’s going to run out and can’t hold on anymore.”
I looked up and sure enough, the hungry ghost was running in circles in that direction, as if it were a headless fly, and I could feel that it was struggling! But there was a hint of confusion in its eyes, and it was clearly clear and fierce.
Unintentionally, its eyes met mine, and I almost couldn’t stand up. I had the urge to reach out and grab its fangs, and I was about to go for it, but I was somehow unable to control myself and walked towards the formation step by step.
“Retreat.” A loud voice exploded in my ear, and I suddenly woke up, finding myself at the edge of the formation, only five steps away from the hungry ghost.
The hungry ghost was staring at me viciously, his mouth full of white teeth that were split into a hideous grin.
I was sweating profusely. I looked back and saw that my master, who was holding a peachwood sword, had come to his senses!
