Chapter 37
Six o’clock in the morning, Cong Sen.
The storm that had been raining all night had finally stopped, and the entire Cong Sen was shrouded in thick water fog.
Shen Haoxuan fearfully hugged Mu Yunsheng’s thigh and hid under the hem of his coat, looking at the unknown foggy world ahead. They were standing in a strange place, with a path stretching straight ahead, flanked by squarely trimmed bushes that looked like a wall. The water was so foggy that visibility was so poor that it was impossible to predict where the path underfoot led, for a little farther on it was covered by a thick mist.
“Dad, will there be monsters here?” Shen Linfeng was a little more daring, he held Mu Yusheng’s hand and looked ahead with his eyes wide open.
“Dad, will the monsters eat me?” Shen Haoxuan was even more scared, and his two little hands hugged Mu Yusheng tighter.
Mu Yunsheng didn’t answer, but said indifferently, “Aunt Gao, Uncle Wang, let’s go.”
“Yes, Young Master.”
With two respectful sounds, Aunt Gao and Uncle Wang stepped forward, picked up the two children who were stunned, and proceeded to walk forward.
As soon as he left Mu Yunsheng, Shen Haoxuan panicked, waving his small hands in protest, “I don’t want you, I want daddy to hold me!”
How could a child resist an adult, Uncle Wang easily restrained him and said, “XuanXuan is better behaved, don’t talk. Otherwise Uncle Wang will throw you into the forest and let the monsters eat you.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Haoxuan immediately didn’t dare to squeak, raised his small hand to cover his mouth, and looked at Uncle Wang in fear, his eyes faintly brimming with tears. Uncle Wang turned a blind eye and continued forward with a stern face and steps.
Shen Linfeng was relatively a bit calmer, and was initially a bit uneasy, but then when he saw that Mu Yunsheng didn’t take a stance, he wisely chose to keep quiet, and only looked at him with his eyes wide open.
Mu Yunsheng ignored everything around him, letting Auntie Gao and Uncle Wang carry the two children farther ahead, and the others accompanying him stopped where they were, without taking a step. He stood there alone for a long time until a light rain fell from the sky before he raised his steps and walked deeper into the path.
The path under his feet was wet and muddy with water, wetting his pants and feet and dirtying his shoes. Mu Yunsheng walked slowly, step by step towards his so-called home after a long absence of six years, unlocking a mechanism every time he walked a certain distance. This labyrinth was not much different from six years ago, each level was set up the same way, it seemed that the people inside had already known that he would return today, so they had specially tuned all the mechanisms to the way he left them so that he could return with ease, or rather, they intentionally wanted him to be reminded of everything he had ever been. When he reached the castle, the neatly trimmed green blocks on both sides turned into one piece of trillium after another, Mu Yunsheng surveyed the surroundings, everything had really remained the same, just like when he left six years ago.
It was the same as when he left six years ago.
Suddenly, a “rustling” sound rang out in front of him, followed by a slender figure emerging from the sea of flowers. She wore a watery blue cheongsam and held a paper umbrella with a blue and white porcelain pattern, slowly coming through the clouds. Seeing Mu Yunsheng, she stopped not far away and did not move, looking at him with a smile under the umbrella.
“Master, welcome back.” The young girl holding the umbrella said as such, her eyebrows with a smile, her lips as pink as the flower of a trillium, making her appear like a lotus flower, standing in a pavilion.
Mu Yunsheng’s eyes were in a trance for a moment, and then became clear again, he greeted the young girl expressionlessly, and then took the umbrella from her hand and continued to walk forward.
“Learned nothing like that.”
Coldly letting out a cry, the young girl who had managed to imitate a serene smile immediately freaked out, turning around and striding after him, raising her fists in defiance, “Hmph! Brother Yunsheng dares to say that I don’t look like my sister?”
“Shut up.”
Mu Yunsheng threw out a sentence without looking back, so angry that Sikong Ye almost swung her fist up, but she thought about the fact that she was on someone else’s turf, so she still endured it with a stinky face.
The first rays of sunlight after the rainstorm shone through the skylight on the roof, and Lai Yuanhang, who was sitting against the corner, was instantly awakened by the blinding light. He frowned and opened his eyes, feeling a splitting headache and his limbs were as heavy as lead.
“Finally awake!”
A familiar laugh came from his ears, Lai Yuanhang rubbed his eyes to see, it was his nemesis, Xiu Junbo.
“Why did you come back, didn’t I ask you to monitor Mu Yusheng’s movements?” Lai Yuanhang stretched his body before wrinkling his eyebrows and slowly standing up.
“Boss! Please look where you are, okay!” Xiu Junbo glared at Lai Yuanhang with a face that couldn’t stand it. The latter then realized that he wasn’t in the army, but in a narrow grocery room.
“Why am I here?” Lai Yuanhang was dumbfounded and really couldn’t recall how he was at Xiu Junbo’s mission place.
Seeing Li Yuanhang’s frothing appearance, Xiu Junbo held his forehead, then picked up the mineral water on the table and smashed it over, saying, “Last night, you got drunk and ran from the army to Shen Xinrui’s house in the middle of the night, so people called me. When I went to pick you up, you were still wrapped in a bath towel paralyzed on the sofa huffing and puffing, and have been sleeping until now before waking up. I said what’s the matter with you, what’s this all about? Playing the bitter trick to molest someone Shen Xinrui in the middle of the night?”
“What are you babbling about!” Lai Yuanhang unhappy back, then unscrewed the mineral water, gulp down half a bottle before continuing: “Erguotou, burnt knife, can’t talk to you, anyway, is being that old fox captain pit.” After saying this, he spread out his hands with a grudging face.
Hearing Lai Yuanhang’s words, Xiu Junbo immediately laughed out loud until the headset on his head made a “rustling” sound before barely stopping.
“G1, G1, please answer when you hear me.”
At the sound, Xiu JunBo hurriedly stopped laughing and responded with a straight face, “Yes, G3, G1, copy!”
“Is Big Boat with you.”
Big Boat was Lai Yuanhang’s code name, and every special forces soldier had their own code name.
“Ai, Captain, you’re really godly and omniscient!” Xiu Junbo laughed and flirted, and even raised an eyebrow at Lai Yuanhang, who raised an eyebrow and returned an eye-blade.
Regarding Xiu Junbo’s flirtation, the headset side did not take over the conversation as usual, but lowered his voice and said, “Something happened to the rat.” Mouse was an old member of the special forces unit that Lai Yuanhang was in, codenamed Mouse. He had sneaked behind Mu Yunsheng and the others the day before yesterday, with two tasks, one was to spy on him, and the other was to protect the second son of the Shen family.
With five simple words, Xiu Junbo immediately sat upright, his expression becoming serious. “What’s wrong.”
Lai Yuanhang could see that his expression was not right and immediately walked over.
After a while, Xiu Junbo slowly took down his headphones, his face unusually heavy, seeing this, Lai Yuanhang frowned: “Why do you look like a dead man! What did the captain say, quickly say it!”
Xiu Junbo’s brows also slightly wrinkled, he was silent for a moment, then spoke in a low voice: “The rat is dead.”
Lai Yuanhang was stunned, then laughed out dryly, “Comrade, this joke isn’t funny, didn’t the rat follow Mu Yunsheng! He’s an old team member, he must be very experienced and measured in such matters, how could he die?”
Xiu Junbo’s face was still ugly, he looked at Lai Yuanhang with burning eyes, “I would joke with you about my companion?” Lai Yuanhang was silent as he continued, “The captain said that according to reliable intelligence, Mu Yunsheng has finally made his move, he took his two children out of Country Z and is expected to have returned to his family territory.” After a pause, he sighed, “Alas, that’s not even worse, what’s worse is that something has happened to Han Yilin as well.”
“And what happened to her! Isn’t there an entire special brigade protecting her!” Lai Yuanhang took over with some agitation, veins rippling on his forehead.
“She ditched her protectors and inexplicably disappeared for most of the day, not returning until the evening. As soon as she came back, she knelt in front of the captain and cried, saying that she saw Sikong Jun, and he even threatened her, saying that he would use her and Lai Xiaobei to exchange for your two sons. She really can toss and turn, just stay in the army properly, what’s the point of running around blindly!” Xiu Junbo grunted indignantly. He hated people like Han Yilin who added to the chaos at crunch time.
With a cold face, Lai Yuanhang raised his hand and smashed the mineral water bottle heavily onto the ground. Right at this moment, Xiu Junbo suddenly
exclaimed, “Not good! Your daughter-in-law seems to know about the child too!”
“What!!!” Lai Yuanhang exclaimed, then quickly turned around to look at the surveillance screen. On the small screen, all that could be seen was Shen Xinrui fainting on the ground, clutching a piece of paper in her hand.
“Damn!”
Lai Yuanhang let out a low curse, then turned around and pulled open the door to run towards Shen’s house.
When Mu Yunsheng arrived at the entrance of the castle’s hall, it was dark inside, only the light from outside the door hit the floor, two children stood snuggling with each other inside, Uncle Wang and Auntie Gao had already disappeared. He just walked into the hall, the originally dark castle immediately became brightly lit, there were many sturdy men in black suits standing on both sides, their movements neatly bending their heads towards him.
“Welcome back young master.”
The loud voice echoed in the huge castle, and it also startled the two children who were snuggled up.
“Oooh, Feng Feng I’m so scared, there are so many bad people here, I want my mommy.” Shen Haoxuan cried out with a wow.
In the end, it was only a three year old child, even if Shen Linfeng was calm again, at this moment when Shen Haoxuan cried, he was also infected and cried along with him, “Oooo, Xuanxuan, I’m scared too! Why did dad bring us here, oooh ……”
Soon, all that echoed throughout the castle were the cries of children. Mu Yunsheng stood there, silent as he looked at the two people hugging and crying together, his brows unconsciously wrinkled, just as he wanted to walk over, a majestic voice suddenly sounded.
“You’re back.” With a majestic sound, a middle-aged man in a black Tang suit appeared at the top of the stairs.
Mu Yunsheng looked at the voice and a deep chill immediately erupted in his eyes. The man clearly didn’t like him like this, pulling down his face and drinking, “What kind of eyes are you looking at, should this be the posture to the father who gave birth to you and raised you!”
Mu Yunsheng didn’t say anything but averted his gaze as he lifted his feet and walked over to Shen Haoxuan and Shen Linfeng. From the time Mu Yunsheng’s father Mu Lan appeared, the two children didn’t dare to cry loudly, but instead sniffled and whimpered.
Seeing Mu Yunsheng, Shen Haoxuan wanted to go over and ask him to hug him, but his expression looked so cold that he didn’t dare, and only stood there, looking at him with trepidation. Shen Linfeng was also, with his eyes wide open, looking at him blankly, with a strong fear in his eyes. Mu Yunsheng walked to them, slowly squatted down, reached out and wiped away the teardrops on their faces, calmly said, “I taught you to be strong, why are you crying.”
With a single word, Shen Haoxuan immediately pounced over and wrapped his arms around his neck before bawling, “Oooh, dad, it’s so scary here! XuanXuan is so scared!”
“Wooo, dad, I’m also scared.” Shen Linfeng also couldn’t help but pounce over
embraced Mu Yunsheng and cried.
All of a sudden, the entire castle was re-filled with children’s cries, Mu Lan who was standing on the stairs heard his face turn blue, he reached out his hand and pointed at the three people hugging each other, and bellowed out, “Throw those two little brats out and feed them to the wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
