Chapter 205: Setting a Trap for the Killer
When Lin Dongxue suddenly fainted, everyone was shocked and froze in place.
Lin Qiupu went over to check on her and said, “Keep working, we’re running out of time. I’ll take her to the hospital!”
Although Chen Shi wanted to check on her, he knew they had less than three hours before the plane was set to take off. He turned to Peng Siyue, saying, “Let’s go!”
The team boarded the plane, meticulously searching through each passenger’s bag, recording the ones without tinfoil. This process took about half an hour due to the airport’s size.
Chen Shi enlisted Team One to help organize the passengers. When Team Two arrived, Team One’s captain, Lao Geng, said, “We’ve gathered all the passengers you need to question… Who are you? Where’s Xiao Lin?”
“I’ll explain later,” Chen Shi patted his shoulder. “Thanks, Lao Geng!”
Seeing everyone following Chen Shi, Lao Geng was puzzled and muttered, “Who exactly is he?”
As they passed by, Xu Xiaodong responded, “Our team’s treasure!”
Chen Shi coordinated with the hotel to arrange some vacant rooms, with two officers questioning each passenger to speed up the process.
Peng Siyue and his forensic team went to search for the weapon. Chen Shi and Xu Xiaodong entered a room where the bald man from the morning was lying on the bed smoking. He immediately stood up, flicking off the ash, and smiled, offering a cigarette.
“What’s your name?” Chen Shi declined the cigarette, pulling out his own pack.
The bald man leaned in to light Chen Shi’s cigarette. “Feng Dabao.”
Chen Shi noticed a question mark next to Feng Dabao’s name on Lin Dongxue’s list. The suspicious pills found in the luggage that morning also belonged to him, explaining why he had been obstructive earlier and now seemed so cooperative.
“Check his record,” Chen Shi said.
Xu Xiaodong used his police device to look it up. “Smuggling, served a few years in prison.”
Feng Dabao said, “I just run an online store, dealing with overseas purchases. I haven’t hurt anyone, just transporting some goods back to sell. It was unjust to charge me with smuggling.”
“We’re not here for that. Do you recognize this person?” Chen Shi showed him the victim’s ID photo on his phone.
“That old man who died? Never seen him before!”
“Did you receive an in-flight meal?”
“Yes, but it was awful. I threw it away.”
“Where?”
“The trash bin near the restroom.”
Chen Shi believed he was telling the truth and waved him off. “Alright, you can go.”
“Thanks, you’re very straightforward. I’m leaving now!” Feng Dabao grinned.
Xu Xiaodong whispered, “Brother Chen, why didn’t you ask about the pills?”
“No time for that now. Contact the local police where the plane landed and have them investigate.”
Chen Shi called in the next passenger and started questioning, “Name…”
In the airport’s medical room, Lin Dongxue slowly regained consciousness, noticing an IV in her hand. Lin Qiupu was beside her. She felt dizzy and sat up slowly. “Brother, what happened to me?”
“Anemia. You need to stop staying up so late.”
“Who’s making me stay up late… I didn’t call out anyone’s name while I was unconscious, did I?”
“Afraid I’d hear you call someone’s name?”
“I… I didn’t!” She glanced at the clock on the wall and gasped. “It’s already two o’clock. How’s the case going?”
“No progress yet,” Lin Qiupu replied, his brows furrowed as he followed up on his phone.
An airport staff member arrived with Officer Zhang, saying, “Captain Lin, haven’t you caught the suspect yet? The plane is ready to take off, and the airport sent me to hurry you up.”
“How much time do we have?”
“We need everyone to board at least half an hour before takeoff.”
Lin Qiupu felt a surge of worry and asked Officer Zhang, “What about the leads I asked you to check?”
“No suspects among the crew or first-class passengers.”
“And Chen Shi hasn’t made any progress either!” he muttered, clenching his teeth.
Lin Dongxue pulled out her IV and said, “We’re out of time. Let’s go!”
“Stay put!” Lin Qiupu ordered.
“I can get an IV later. I’m fine now…” She stood up, feeling dizzy again but steadier than before.
Lin Qiupu didn’t insist and said, “Let’s go to the hotel!”
When they arrived at the hotel, they were surprised to find everyone resting in the lobby. Chen Shi was outside smoking, looking relaxed. Lin Qiupu couldn’t believe it. “Did you… did you find the suspect?”
“No, there’s no suspect among this group,” Chen Shi replied.
“Then why…” Lin Qiupu controlled his rising volume, “Why are you so relaxed?”
“We’ve hit a dead end. What else can I do?”
Lin Qiupu was about to lose his temper when Chen Shi raised his hand and counted on his fingers. “Peng found no weapon in the areas the passengers passed through. We checked the luggage twice—no issues. We searched every corner of the plane—nothing.”
“What are you getting at?”
“The weapon is on the suspect.”
“Do you know what time it is? If you have a plan, implement it now!” Lin Qiupu glanced at his watch, feeling increasingly anxious as the seconds ticked away.
“What can I do? I’m not a mind reader.” Chen Shi said.
“X-rays! The airport has X-rays,” Lin Dongxue suggested.
“Exactly! My plan is to have everyone go through security again before boarding. If we’re right, the suspect will be caught,” Chen Shi said.
“And if it doesn’t work?” Lin Qiupu asked.
Peng Siyue walked out, adjusting his glasses. “If Chen’s plan fails, I’ll fly with them and collect everyone’s DNA for comparison.”
“Hopefully, we won’t need that. Let’s get everyone to board!” Lin Qiupu said.
It seemed Chen Shi had intended to wait until this moment. With no other options, Lin Qiupu instructed the airport staff to prepare for boarding and arranged for the passengers to go through security.
The airport temporarily opened a security lane. Hearing that they could finally board, the passengers were enthusiastic. As long as they could get on the plane, they felt more at ease.
Most passengers accepted the explanation for another security check without issue.
Nearby, the officers waited anxiously as the long line of passengers passed through security. Each time the scanner detected metal, they tensed, only to find it was just coins, keys, or phones.
“Will this work?” Lin Qiupu questioned, “The weapon isn’t large. The suspect could’ve left it at the hotel.”
“Don’t worry. They didn’t know about the security check beforehand,” Chen Shi said confidently. “Besides, Team One is checking their rooms at the hotel.”
Lin Qiupu’s phone rang. It was Lao Geng. “Xiao Lin, nothing suspicious in the hotel rooms.”
“Thank you.”
“It’s nothing. We should be thanking you for your help.”
At that moment, a young man in the crowd appeared nervous, frequently switching places with others. Chen Shi signaled for silence and pointed at the man. The officers closed in, like wolves circling their prey…
