Chapter 312: Father and Son Reunited
As soon as Li Zhiqiang decided to act, he drew Wang Haitao’s blood and sealed it in a soft tube. The tube didn’t look thick, but when he tried to insert it under his skin, the pain was so excruciating that he nearly passed out, losing quite a bit of blood in the process.
After working through the night, the tube finally resembled a vein. Only then did Li Zhiqiang proceed with his plan to deceive everyone.
His sacrifice paid off. When he arrived at Lu Qixing’s company, the man with the slicked-back hair immediately took him to the hospital for a paternity test, which he passed smoothly. Afterward, the slicked-back man brought him to meet his biological father.
Contrary to what he had imagined, his father was sick, lying in bed and barely able to speak. “I wronged your mother all those years ago. I will make it up to you with everything I have. But first, you need to do something for me,” said Lu Qixing.
The reason Lu Qixing had called him was to find a compatible kidney donor. Li Zhiqiang’s mind raced, but he was already in too deep to back out.
Lu Qixing let him stay in the villa, dressed as a servant. He had access to good food, champagne, and cigars, but he was given no money and wasn’t allowed to leave freely.
Li Zhiqiang couldn’t enjoy any of it. He had to find a way to get through this. Encouraging himself, he thought that if he could fake the paternity test, he could get through this too.
To buy time, he poured water on himself to catch a cold and frequently tried to glean information from Dr. Xu, hoping for a way out.
He devised a plan to bring Wang Haitao over and use his kidney for Lu Qixing, but he needed to deceive Dr. Xu, who was highly paid and unlikely to be bribed with the stolen money.
Alternatively, he considered sabotaging the surgery so that Lu Qixing would die on the operating table. But that was too risky.
After much thought, he realized there was a better way—one that involved a bit of self-sacrifice. As long as the blood drawn for matching came from Wang Haitao, the test would show that the transplant was viable.
He planned to have his kidney transplanted into Lu Qixing, hoping the old man would reject it and die.
But Dr. Xu informed him that the surgery wasn’t just about the transplant. One of Lu Qixing’s kidneys had a tumor, and the other wasn’t functioning well enough to support him. So, Lu Qixing wanted to swap his failing kidney with one of his son’s healthy kidneys, which would help both survive without major side effects.
Li Zhiqiang cursed internally, realizing he had stepped into a deadly trap.
That night, he decided to call it quits. Wealthy people were too hard to deceive. He planned to return, kill Wang Haitao, grab the loot, and escape.
On April 30th, he returned to find that Wang Haitao had escaped while the couple was out selling the stolen goods. Li Zhiqiang was furious when Daniu said, “Don’t worry, that guy’s gone crazy, always talking about generals and emperors.”
Seeing the couple’s used condoms and leftover food infuriated Li Zhiqiang further. He killed them both, feeling a sense of calm after the murders.
He knew hope wasn’t entirely lost. If he could come up with a plan to kill Lu Qixing and escape, he could inherit the vast estate and then deal with the crazed Wang Haitao later.
Deciding that fortune favored the bold, he buried the couple’s bodies, took the money, and considered burning the house but decided against it as it would draw too much attention.
Back at the villa, he continued his role as the obedient son, constantly thinking of ways to kill Lu Qixing. However, the constant presence of people made it difficult.
When Lu Qixing invited a group of top doctors, Li Zhiqiang realized he had to act quickly. He sabotaged the electrical panel, but the police not only saved Lu Qixing but also exposed him.
“I was so close, just a bit of luck away!” Li Zhiqiang lamented, shaking his head. “You only get a few chances in life. I took mine and have no regrets.”
“You lack self-awareness,” Lin Qiupu scoffed. “But your ‘journey’ will be a hit in prison.”
“Officer, those two I killed were scum. Can you talk to the judge for a reduced sentence or something… Hey, officer, don’t leave…”
Ignoring Li Zhiqiang’s pleas, Lin Qiupu and Lin Dongxue left the interrogation room. The rest of the task force waited outside. Chen Shi remarked, “What a fool. Did he really think he could get a windfall like that?”
The man with the slicked-back hair approached them. “Mr. Lu has woken up. He wants to know if you found his real son. He wants to meet him!”
Chen Shi said, “I should be heading home. It’s late.”
“Hey!” Lin Qiupu called out. “The guy’s at your place. Take him over.”
“Why don’t you go, Captain Lin? It’s a bit too showy for me.”
“No, you go. We have a lot of cleanup to do here.”
Chen Shi sighed, feeling fated to be entangled with Lu Qixing.
So, Chen Shi and Lin Dongxue went to fetch Wang Haitao, who was already asleep. Groggy, Wang Haitao asked where they were going. Chen Shi said, “To meet your father.”
“You found my father?” Wang Haitao perked up immediately.
At the villa, the guests had left, and the servants were cleaning up. Wang Haitao was brought to Lu Qixing’s bedside. Lu Qixing, pointing at the oddly dressed man, asked Chen Shi, “Officer Song, is this the real one this time?”
“Yes, he is.”
Lu Qixing sat up, excited. “My son, I knew it was you the moment you walked in. Look at those eyebrows and eyes, just like your mother’s… I’ve missed you!”
Wang Haitao stood stunned for a moment before his eyes cleared and his voice steadied. “You are Lu Qixing, my biological father.”
“Yes, yes! Blood is thicker than water. After all these years, fate has reunited us. It’s heaven’s will… Water, please!”
Lu Qixing’s theatrical performance moved Wang Haitao, who knelt by the bed, holding Lu Qixing’s hand and sobbing, “Dad! I’ve been searching for you so hard…”
Choking up, Lu Qixing kept waving his hand.
Lin Dongxue said, “After all this, it’s finally a happy ending… Mr. Lu seems very emotional.”
“Yes, a bit too emotional…” Chen Shi noticed something under Wang Haitao’s knee. “Idiot! You’re kneeling on your father’s oxygen tube. He’s suffocating!”
