Chapter 78: Wu Hao’s Confession
The SWAT team finally arrived and took Wu Hao away. It was said that Xu Xiaodong was the one who bravely captured the criminal, earning praise from the SWAT members who asked if he would consider joining them. Xu Xiaodong scratched his head and laughed.
Ximen Sheng was greatly frightened, and Lin Qiupu was comforting him.
Pan Yingxiu sat on the bed, tears streaming down her face. Chen Shi approached her, handing her a tissue, and said, “You must have heard what was just said. There was no reason to arrest you, but now your foolish accomplice has implicated himself. When we get to the station, we will interrogate him rigorously. Do you think he can keep this secret for long? So, I’m giving you a chance to confess.”
Pan Yingxiu took the tissue with trembling hands and asked, “We were so careful, how did you find out?”
“Careful? To me, it was full of holes… You seem to be a well-educated woman who probably never lied before, right?” Chen Shi responded.
Pan Yingxiu shook her head, “Almost never.”
“Then you should know how mentally exhausting lying can be. Even a small lie is hard to maintain, let alone a huge lie like murder!” Chen Shi’s expression turned serious. “You are trying to deceive the entire world!”
“I… I…” Pan Yingxiu began to sob, her gaze wandering. “Before I confess, I have a small request.”
“Go ahead.”
She placed her hand on her belly. “I want to abort the baby. It’s a bastard and shouldn’t be brought into this world. As long as it’s in my belly, I can’t be at peace.”
Ximen Sheng suddenly rushed over, shouting, “Why do you have a child? Whose is it?”
Pan Yingxiu looked up, crying, “It’s his.”
“Whose?” Ximen Sheng glanced at Chen Shi. “The crazy guy from earlier?”
Pan Yingxiu silently nodded.
“So… you two were in it together! You never loved me.”
“No! I lied to you at first, but you were so good to me that I started to like you. You’re a thousand times better than him. If only I had met you first.” She said, reaching out to hug him.
Ximen Sheng pushed her away forcefully, “Get away from me, liar! I don’t know you! You’re a true femme fatale!”
Pan Yingxiu’s eyes widened, as if she had suffered a huge blow. She suddenly turned and rushed towards the window, startling everyone. Chen Shi shouted, “It’s the second floor. You won’t die, but you’ll suffer more.”
Pan Yingxiu clung to the railing, slowly squatting down and covering her face, crying bitterly. Lin Qiupu gestured to his subordinates to quickly restrain her.
As Chen Shi walked out of the villa with Lin Dongxue, he felt a myriad of emotions. The sleazy passenger approached, shaking Chen Shi’s hand excitedly, saying, “That was amazing. I never expected to witness such an event. So, Mr. Chen, you’re a detective!”
“How do you know my name?” Chen Shi asked.
“It’s written on the car! I’m a writer who specializes in such novels. Mr. Chen, can I have your contact information? I’d love to treat you to a meal sometime.” The writer said excitedly, pulling out a business card with “Suspense Novelist Xin Bai” written on it.
“Uh…” Chen Shi looked troubled.
The writer pointed to his phone, “Oh, your number is here. I’ll contact you another day. See you soon!” He waved and left.
“Wait!”
Chen Shi’s shout didn’t stop him. Lin Dongxue covered her mouth and laughed, “You’re going to be famous now.”
“That guy is so annoying.”
Back at the station, Lin Qiupu assigned interrogators to question the suspects separately while others continued gathering evidence. Finally, they could investigate smoothly with a search warrant.
On the investigation side, Peng Sijue took charge. Chen Shi stayed at the station to hear the suspects’ confessions.
At first, Pan Yingxiu kept crying while Wu Hao made a scene, claiming he was Wu Song reincarnated, wanting to go to the zoo to fight tigers, shaking the interrogation chair noisily.
Lin Qiupu knew how to handle such people. He left Wu Hao in the interrogation room for a few hours, then went in and said that Pan Yingxiu had already confessed, so it was up to him to show his attitude.
Wu Hao deflated instantly and stopped acting. Trembling, he said, “Officer, can I have a cigarette?”
Lin Qiupu lit a cigarette for him. Wu Hao took a long drag, tears welling up in his eyes. “She should have been my wife.”
“What do you mean?”
Wu Hao explained that after his parents died, his brother took the house and sold it, using part of the money for a down payment on his current house and another part that was supposed to be his. But his brother met Pan Yingxiu.
Back then, Pan Yingxiu was a beautiful young nurse. His brother fell in love at first sight, but being short and ugly, he shamelessly courted her with flowers, chocolates, and even bought a car to pick her up every day, using Wu Hao’s marriage money to pretend to be rich and trick Pan Yingxiu.
Because of the lack of money, Wu Hao’s girlfriend of several years left him, which made him furious. His brother mumbled something about losing the money in a business deal. Wu Hao was so angry he wanted to kill him.
The brothers fought fiercely, and relatives intervened, insisting that the brother must buy Wu Hao a wedding house in the future. Wu Hao moved in with his brother.
Living under the same roof led to inevitable consequences. His brother was a recluse running an online shop, while Wu Hao, with his strong build, quickly had an affair with his sister-in-law. It was thrilling to be with her next to his sleeping brother.
“Stick to the main points!” Lin Qiupu interrupted as Wu Hao got more excited.
“Okay, okay.”
Wu Hao continued, saying that after a period of secret affair, he learned how his brother had tricked Pan Yingxiu, using the money meant for Wu Hao. So, Pan Yingxiu should have been his wife.
From then on, Wu Hao acted more boldly, and Pan Yingxiu enjoyed the thrill of the affair.
But living under the same roof meant they were bound to get caught. His brother eventually noticed something was off, pretended to leave, and then caught them in the act.
Furious, his brother threatened to kill Wu Hao. Just as he turned away, Wu Hao shouted, “I’ll kill you first!” and hit him on the back of the head with a stool, causing him to fall, convulse, and foam at the mouth.
Wu Hao snapped out of his rage, and he and Pan Yingxiu discussed what to do. Killing and burying him was out of the question, as the police would eventually find out. Taking him to the hospital was also risky, as he would surely be jailed.
Pan Yingxiu decided to keep him alive first and then figure it out.
That night, Pan Yingxiu stole some medical equipment and drugs from the hospital and treated his brother, keeping him alive but seemingly paralyzed, staring blankly and unable to speak…
