Hai Guoyang pulled out his phone, ready to make a call, but Chen Shi grabbed his hand, staring him down. “What are you planning? To have your operatives retaliate against us? Are you really worthy of the name ‘Human Observer’ by abusing violence?”

Hai Guoyang’s lips trembled as he pushed Chen Shi’s hand away. “Would it be so bad to coexist peacefully? Why push me? Do you not want the crime rate in Long’an to drop, to have no cases to solve?”

Chen Shi shook his head and pulled out his trump card—three life function reports. “Mr. Hai, have you ever predicted your own life? These are life functions calculated based on your personality traits. If you continue as the Human Observer and keep killing, in ten years, you’ll become paranoid and narrow-minded. You’ll start targeting potential rapists, thieves, and fraudsters. In another ten years, you’ll become even more extreme, targeting even those with minor character flaws. Entrusting the safety of a city to one person is the greatest danger. That’s why I can’t support you.”

Hai Guoyang snatched the reports, his face contorted in anger. “You’re using my own weapon against me!”

“We both know the accuracy of the life function. Science is reproducible. I had three math graduates calculate these. Their contact information is on the back; you can call to verify…” Chen Shi paused. “This is your future.”

These three papers delivered the final blow to Hai Guoyang’s confidence. He collapsed to his knees, burying his face in them and sobbing.

Chen Shi knew it was over. This tactic, using the spear against the shield, was Tao Yueyue’s brilliant idea, designed to shatter Hai Guoyang’s self-assurance completely.

“Good luck, Mr. Hai,” Chen Shi said, then left.

As he exited the building, Chen Shi breathed a sigh of relief. The streets of Long’an were as bustling as ever, life returning to normal.

He would stop the investigation because other cases were piling up, and it was impossible to continue focusing on the Human Observer. Hai Guoyang would have to deal with his own fate.

Lin Dongxue called, asking, “How did it go?”

“It’s done,” Chen Shi replied lightly. “He’s a rational man, so rationality was the only way to defeat him. Yueyue’s idea was brilliant.”

“That’s great!”

Suddenly, a loud crash erupted behind him, causing the street to erupt in chaos. People flocked to one spot. Lin Dongxue asked, “What happened?”

“It sounds like someone fell from a building. I’ll check it out.”

Chen Shi hung up and approached the scene. He saw Hai Guoyang’s body sprawled on a car, which had crumpled from the impact. His eyes were open, pupils dilating.

Looking up, Chen Shi saw the open window of the CEO’s office, papers fluttering out like snowflakes.

“Oh my God, that’s horrifying!”

“Isn’t that Mr. Hai?”

“Did he jump because of the company?”

People were murmuring. Chen Shi, shocked, finally remembered his duty. He asked everyone to step back and called the local precinct for help.

In the crowd, a pair of tear-filled eyes watched Hai Guoyang’s lifeless body. She turned silently and walked into a dark alley.

Chen Anhe, stepping into the shadowy alley, took out her phone and recorded a voice message: “October 26, 201X, Hai Guoyang committed suicide. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I’ll never forget you. You were an exceptional operative.

“The police can never truly understand the Human Observer, but that’s not their fault, nor yours. Humanity has its limits. I don’t feel anger or sadness about this. I exist in this space and time, fulfilling a secret duty, observing human behavior and thought patterns. Perhaps this intervention was hasty. Hai Guoyang was overly confident and idealistic, climbing too fast and falling just as hard.

“Reflection: Should humanity be interfered with? Human flaws are too apparent. They are the only species on this planet that deliberately kills their own kind. Evolution has little effect on them because inferior genes continue to be passed down. Without external intervention, humanity will hit a dead end in evolution. Humans pride themselves on being civilized and intelligent, yet violence pervades their societies. They are driven by primitive, lowly desires. Their civilization is fragile, with little resilience to unknown risks.

“Clearly, humanity needs intervention. I will go into hiding, find new operatives, and wait for the next opportunity.”

With that, Chen Anhe ended the recording, clutching the phone tightly. Her cold, mask-like face showed no emotion.
