Chapter 385
Early morning.
Luke woke up from his slumber with a few breaths of alcohol, and walked to the bathroom with sleepy eyes and put a pool of hot water.
Taking advantage of the effort to drain the water, he made a pot of tea and drank it while taking a bath.
Lying in the bath, Luke remembered last night’s wrestling match.
It was called an exciting one.
A clear line of bikini beauties were battling each other on the stage, with ample breasts, thin waists, and long legs, and it was clear to see.
Luke wanted to ask them where they bought their razors, clean and beautiful.
The atmosphere of the scene was also very hot, cheering and shouting.
Luke was also in a bit of a stirring mood watching and wanted to find a girl to practice wrestling with.
After the match, Luke called Daisy and wanted to ask her to practice wrestling in the evening.
However, Daisy was getting ready for work today and had to rest early last night and declined Luke’s request.
It left him a little depressed and, to put it bluntly, suffocated.
Luke is busy at work, and when he meets Daisy, who is even busier than he is, the two of them don’t have much time to bump into each other, and he’s just at the right age for blood, so he’s sure to be unsatisfied.
The best thing to do is find a new fuck buddy.
Ortie was pretty, with a good temperament and a model’s body, and would have been a good choice, but she was a little out of her league.
Let’s just go with the flow, maybe we’ll meet a suitable one someday.
Last night, he and John watched the game, and the two of them ran to the bar to drink, until they drank until twelve o’clock at night before going home, enjoying the night life of Los Angeles ……
After taking a bath, Luke’s drink dissipated, his person was refreshed, and his stomach was hungry.
He changed into a fresh outfit and prepared to find a restaurant for dinner.
Luke drove to the nearby breakfast store, running the restaurant is a family of Chinese descent, the son kneads the noodles, the old man fries the doughnuts, the old lady serves the food, the daughter-in-law as a waitress, a small store is doing well, the store is full of guests, most of them are Chinese, but there are some white people.
Luke asked for a tofu brain, two doughnuts, a tea egg, a small dish of pickles, don’t look at the pickles is unremarkable, it is a stir-fried shredded cabbage, but the taste of the tune is really good, the average family can rarely tune out that flavor.
Sizzling fritters with a small pickle just can relieve greasiness.
“Ringing ……” Luke’s cell phone rang.
“Hey, it’s Red.”
“Chief, how was Christmas?”
“It was okay.”
“What can I do for you?”
“Didn’t you watch the news?”
“No.” Luke’s drink had just worn off, so he didn’t have the heart to watch the news.
“Last night, a night shift patrolman was killed on? Harvey Street.
The higher-ups in the police department are highly concerned about this case, and the Chief wants the Robbery and Murder Division to take over the case, and I’ll be watching the case personally, so I’d like to have Squadron One take over the case.” Reed added.
“I know you guys are on vacation, but this case is too important to fail.
You guys are my most trusted men.”
There was no way Luke would stand by while his colleagues in the police department were killed, “Chief, I’ll call everyone back to the team.”
An hour later.
Except for Potter, who was out on vacation with his family, everyone in the 1st Squadron returned to the police station.
Inside the First Squadron office.
Everyone hadn’t seen each other for a few days, and they were supposed to talk about the interesting events during Christmas, but after learning about the murder of the police officers, the atmosphere was a bit depressing.
Blackie asked, “Did you guys watch the news?”
The lieutenant replied, “Of course, I’ve been in the habit of eating breakfast while watching the news for decades.
The one who was killed was a young white night shift officer, very good, sadly.”
Blackie pressed, “Was he killed in the line of duty?”
The lieutenant nodded, “That’s what the news said, but I have a feeling it’s not that simple, patrol officers are shot and killed every year in Los Angeles, most of them are attacked by law enforcement targets during the course of their duties, in this case the patrol division handles the situation themselves, they either kill them on the scene or put out a city wide manhunt, they don’t turn the case over to the Robbery and Murder Division easily. ”
Jackson nodded, “The Lieutenant is right, from what I know of the Patrol Division, they do prefer to personally avenge their colleagues, they are very united in that regard.”
Black looked over at Jackson, “I thought you said you were going on a trip to Hawaii with your family? Why didn’t you go?”
Jackson shrugged, “It wasn’t me who skipped out, but someone else.”
“Cackle ……”
The office door opened.
Reed walked into the office and handed Luke a file, “Guys, I’m sorry to make you end your vacation early.
The reason for this is already known.
A Southern Division patrolman was shot and killed, and the identity of the murderer has yet to be found, this case has attracted a great deal of attention from the higher-ups in the police department, and I’ve thought it over and over again that it’s best to hand the case over to you guys.
After all, you guys are the most capable ‘fighters’ in the entire Los Angeles.”
The vice squad waved their hands, “Reed, don’t say these useless things.
It’s because of our other on-duty colleagues keeping order in Los Angeles that we were able to take a vacation and spend Christmas with our families.
Now that the on-duty officer was killed and we just have a few less days off, what’s the complaint?”
Jenny chimed in, “The lieutenant’s right, we’ll get that bastard.”
Jackson said, “We’re duty bound.”
“I’ll just blow his head off, like a watermelon, pfft ……” Black pouted, dubbing it figuratively.
Reed spread his hands, “OK, then I’ll get right to the point and talk about the case.”
Reed signaled Luke to put the information on the projector and introduced, “The time of the crime was around eleven o’clock last night.
The slain officer’s name was Jens Hauraige, a white officer, 34 years old, who was on patrol duty with his colleague, Timo Jensen.
Spotting a red Honda that ran a red light, the two men flashed their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the car that ran the red light, but that car didn’t stop right away and a chase ensued.
The chase went to the vicinity of?Harvey Street, where the suspect vehicle pulled over and the driver ran out of the driver’s side and fled toward an alley on the right.
Timo Jensen, a coworker of the deceased, entered the alley in pursuit, and the deceased remained by the side of the car to guard the occupants of the automobile.
Timo Jensen had not been in the alley long when he heard the shots, and by the time he came out after him, Jens Haurage had been shot and fallen to the ground, and the passenger in the car was gone.”
Luke skimmed through the information and asked, “The time of the crime was 11:00 p.m. last night, it’s now been almost twelve hours, has the Southern Division turned up any clues about the killer in the meantime?”
Reed said, “After the case, the southern division is also doing its best to investigate the case.
However, a portion of the patrolmen were also on vacation and could not return to the team for the time being, and the Southern Precinct did not have enough manpower, and did not find out any valuable clues, which is why the top management of the police department decided to transfer the case to the Robbery and Murder Division, so that the murderer of Jens Hauraige could be caught as soon as possible.”
Reed described the course of the case, giving the First Squadron a general understanding.
But to solve the case, this level of understanding was obviously not enough, Luke had a few more questions to personally ask the other officer involved in the case, he was the one who experienced it and Luke wanted to hear his description of the scene.
After dropping off Reed, Luke arranges the task, he takes Jackson to the southern precinct to learn about the situation and receive the file.
The vice squad took the men to the crime scene, even though twelve hours had passed, the scene investigation was still necessary to help the officers get a fuller picture of the case.
Luke would also make a trip to the scene when the Southern Precinct was finished.
Southern Precinct.
There were four precincts in Los Angeles, and each precinct had a direct police detective division, which would only be handed over to the Robbery and Murder Division if they encountered a major criminal case.
Luke arrived at the southern precinct and found the night detective division.
The person in charge of referring cases was Detective Sergeant Davo Galli of the Night Shift Detective Division.
After both sides met, Davo Galli took the initiative to shake Luke’s hand, “Captain Lee, I’ve heard a lot about you.
I’ve often seen your news, the vampire case, the school shooting case, the headless female body case, the poisoning case ……
I’ve always wanted to exchange some experience in handling cases with you, and I’m honored to work with you.”
“Me too.” Luke smiled, and although the other party recognized him, Luke still took out the handover procedures.
Davo Gali invited Luke into his office after checking the handover materials, “Captain Li, please have a seat, I’ll get the case file.”
Soon, Davo Gali took a file and put it in front of Luke, saying, “The clues of the case are recorded on it, you guys take a look at it and if there is anything you are not clear about, you can ask me at any time.”
Luke opened the dossier to check it, this dossier was more detailed than Reed’s one, Luke read it for half an hour before he closed it and asked, “Inspector Gali, this case is under your responsibility to investigate?”
“I’m not in charge of the case, but I did participate in the investigation and was one of the first detectives to arrive at the scene.”
“Did you find any suspicious people at the scene?”
“No.
Twenty minutes had passed since the shooting when I arrived, and although there were people milling around, there were no suspicious people.”
Luke thought about it, if the other side had noticed suspicious persons, they wouldn’t have turned the case over to the Robbery-Murder Division, “I’d like to talk to Timo Jensen, the partner of the slain officer.”
Davo Galli thought for a moment, “I can put you in touch.”
Luke continued, “I’d like to view the law enforcement recorders and the trip logs of both officers.”
Davo Galli shrugged, “I can’t decide that, I’ll need to request it from my superiors.”
“Where is the suspect vehicle and the police car driven by Jens Haurage?”
“Both are in the identification section.”
“I’d like to view the suspect vehicle first.”
“No problem.” Davo Galli finished and took Luke and the two of them to the Identification Section first, after which he reported Luke’s request to his superiors.
Identification Section parking lot.
Luke found the two cars on the night of the crime, one was the vehicle driven by the suspect who ran the red light, and one was the police car driven by the police, and according to the description on the file the deceased Jens Hauraige was the driver who drove the police car.
The suspect vehicle was a red Honda sedan, 80% new, with scuff marks on the right front and left rear as if it had been freshly hit, although the accident was minor.
The suspect vehicle had a bullet hole left in the right rear side, which likely would have been left by the killer’s shot.
Luke opened the door and looked inside the car, it was cluttered with quite a few items, as well as used trash, food wrappers, and shipping avoidance covers.
Also found was some contraband, a handgun, white powder, and dozens of bullets.
The police car was a Chevrolet Caprice, with a very tough overall appearance, and over three hundred horsepower, allowing it to be used for a variety of police uses on a daily basis.
There were quite a few scuff marks on the front and back of the police car, but there were no bullet holes found, then Luke opened the car, the interior was swept very clean, and the car recorder had been removed.
“Captain Lee.”
Davo Gali’s voice sounded behind him, he was followed by a white man, in his twenties, not too old, about 180CM tall, a bit on the thin side.
Davo Gali introduced, “Captain Lee, this is Timo Jensen, the partner of the victimized police officer.” He then barked at Timo Jensen, “This is Captain Lee of the Robbery and Murder Division, the case of Jens Howe Reggie’s shooting has been handed over to him, so cooperate well with his investigation.”
Timo Jensen looked at Luke and took the initiative to greet him, “Captain Lee.”
Luke nodded and pointed at the red Honda sedan, “This is the car driven by the suspect?”
Timo Jensen frowned slightly, “Yes.”
Luke pointed at the police car next to him again, “You were in pursuit in this car?”
“Yes.”
“Was there a collision with the car?”
“Yes.”
“Jens Haurage was driving the police car when he collided with the left rear side of the red Honda, causing the other car to become unstable and they were forced to stop.”
“After the red Honda stopped, the driver fled and you went after the other car?”
“Yes. The only way to get a conviction in this situation is to catch the driver.”
“What was the driver charged with?”
“Speeding and running a red light.”
“Did you catch the driver?”
“No.”
“Did the driver have a weapon on him?”
“I’m not sure, but he didn’t shoot me.”
“Did anyone else get out of the red Honda after the driver fled?”
“No.”
“Are you sure there was anyone else in the car?”
“For sure.”
“How many people?”
“At least one.”
“That means you’re not sure how many people were in the car at the time either?”
“Yes. Because the main thing in this case was to arrest the driver, and I didn’t think much about it, so I just ran to arrest the driver.
The passenger’s charge wasn’t serious, and I didn’t expect …… what happened back there.”
“How much time passed between the time you chased the driver and the time the shots rang out?”
“Less than two minutes.”
“Can you be more specific?”
“It was a chaotic situation …… I couldn’t help it.”
“And how long did it take you to return to the scene?”
“About the same amount of time.”
“That is to say, you were away from the deceased, Jens Hauraki, for a period of three to four minutes?”
“Yes.”
“What did you see when you returned to the scene?”
Timo Jensen closed his eyes and took a deep breath, “I saw Jens Haurage on the ground, bleeding profusely and shot twice.
I checked the surrounding area and saw no shooter or suspicious persons ……
I called for backup again.”
Luke pressed, “When did you first call for backup?”
“After I heard the shots.”
Luke said, “Was there anything missing from Jens Hauraki or from the police car?”
“A pair of handcuffs was missing.”
Luke recorded in his notebook, “Where was Jens Haurage shot?”
“All in the back.”
“Where exactly was he shot?”
“Next to the red Honda the suspect was driving.”
“How many shots did you hear?”
“Four.”
“Did Jens Haurage use his sidearm to fight back?”
“No. When I saw him then, he had his hand pressed on the butt of the gun, but did not take it out of its holster.”
Luke ticked off a few highlights with his pen; handcuffs, back, next to the red Honda ……
In Luke’s experience, he surmised that after Timo Jensen had chased the driver, Jens Haurage would have routinely searched the car’s occupants, had the passengers on their backs, handcuffed and searched the passengers, and that’s exactly the time when he was attacked from behind and seriously injured, which is why he was unable to fight back.
Otherwise, it was impossible for a well-trained patrolman who had been shot at to not even pull out his gun.
Luke asked, “How long have you been partnered with Jens Haurage?”
“It’s been a year, he’s a good guy, takes care of me, teaches me a lot of things …… often tells me how I can avoid danger, but I didn’t expect ……” Timo Jensen’s eyes reddened and choked back a sob, “If I had caught the driver earlier, this might not have happened?”
“Do you have a suspect for the murderer of Jens Hauraki?”
Timo Jensen hesitated for a moment, “No.”
“Did you find out the identity of the driver?”
“No.”
“What about the car?”
“It’s a stolen car, the owner just reported it stolen a couple days ago.”
Luke looked aside to night detective Davo Galli, “Have you talked to the owner of the stolen car?”
Davo Galli gave a look of embarrassment, “Not yet.”
Luke looked at Timo Jensen again, “Do you think Jens Haurage’s death was an accident, or was it premeditated?”
Timo Jensen looked up, “I don’t understand what you mean?”
Luke changed his line of questioning, “Do you think Jens Haurage’s death had anything to do with the man in the red Honda?”
Timo Jensen said, “Although emotionally, I resent them a little …… but from the scene, Jens was attacked from behind and it shouldn’t have anything to do with the people in the car.”
Luke said, “That’s not necessarily true.
How do you know the driver stopped there by accident?
How do you know they didn’t have other accomplices?
Assuming, hypothetically, that Jens Hauraige happened to be seen by an arriving accomplice while apprehending the suspects in the car, and that the other man opened fire in the heat of the moment, do you think that’s possible?”
Hearing Luke’s words, Timo Jensen’s face became a bit ugly and slowly said, “You’re right …… must find those two bastards ……”
“Do you know where they are?”
Timo Jensen looked at Luke and shook his head, “No idea.”
“Can you describe their physical characteristics?”
“The driver was a man, wearing a hat, couldn’t really see what he looked like, must have been of Mexican descent, not very tall, somewhat stout.
The passenger in the car is supposed to be a woman, I didn’t get a good look at her.”
Luke also stared at the other man and asked, “Are you on break now?”
“No, I requested to continue working, I want to do as much as I can for Jens Hauraki, I don’t want to be idle ……”
Luke patted him on the shoulder and left a business card, “Feel free to call me anytime you remember any leads.”
“I will.” Timo Jensen took the business card, glanced at the police car he used to drive, and left the identification section.
Jackson looked at the other party’s back and said thoughtfully, “Captain, should we find someone to follow him?”
