Chapter 592
The Palisades neighborhood.
Early in the morning, Luke stood in the spacious and bright kitchen, making breakfast while talking to his father.
“Dad, have you had breakfast yet?”
“Just had it.
There’s a new breakfast place in the neighborhood that has great frittatas, I’ll take you to try them when you’re next in New York.”
Luke snickered, “It’s been a long time since I’ve had a frittata, I’m drooling just talking about it.”
“Haha ……” Li Zhaofeng laughed, then said, “Yesterday, the new company has been registered, it’s called Diaz Investment Company.
In a moment, I’ll send you the equity documents to take a look.”
“Do you need me to make a trip to New York?”
“There is no need for the time being.
Although you are the major shareholder of the company, you don’t hold a position within the company, just leave it to me.”
“I know.” Father and son chatted for a few moments, then Li Zhaofeng hung up his cell phone.
Luke’s breakfast was almost done, fried eggs, bacon, cabbage, toast, coffee, and blueberries.
“Ta-da ……”
A footstep sounded and Daisy came down the stairs wearing a white shirt, the shirt was Luke’s and was a little fat, just enough to cover her hips and her two long legs stood out.
Luke turned off the heat and loaded his plate with bacon, “Hi beautiful, good morning.
I was just about to call you for breakfast.”
Daisy rolled up her somewhat fat sleeves, “I can smell it, can I help you?”
Luke put his dinner plate on the table and said, “Get the milk and chocolate sauce out of the fridge and you’re ready to eat.”
“OK,” Daisy walked over with the milk and chocolate sauce and sat down across from Luke, “Wow wow, that’s a big breakfast.” Daisy picked up a blueberry and put it in her mouth.
Luke laughed, “You won’t be able to hold a gun if you don’t eat more.”
Daisy rubbed her right arm, “Speaking of practicing with guns, I’m feeling a little sore in my little arm.”
“You practiced too long yesterday, you have to take it slow.” Luke handed Daisy a slice of bread slathered with chocolate sauce.
“It has too many calories for me, I just need the bread slice.” Daisy picked up a slice of bread, put on a fried egg, bacon and cabbage and took a bite, “Tastes good.”
Luke also took a bite of the slice of bread slathered with chocolate sauce and nodded, “The chocolate sauce I bought is so pure and has so little sugar that it won’t be very high in calories.
Want to try some?”
Daisy shook her head and continued the topic from earlier, “You know that I’m usually very busy with my work, so it’s impossible for me to go to the shooting club often, and you’re also very busy with your work, so you may not have the time to teach me either.
So, I want to learn to use a gun as soon as possible.”
Luke laughed, “You are very smart and have basically mastered the use of a pistol, but knowing how to use it doesn’t mean you can use it well, you still need to practice it often.
Sometimes half-assed shooters are more dangerous instead, and may even get themselves killed.”
Daisy knew that Luke was doing it for his own good and responded, “I’ll listen to you and practice my marksmanship whenever I have time, Coach Lee.”
“Dingdong ……”
Luke’s cell phone rang and he opened it to see that it was a document from his father.
After eating, Luke took that document out and asked Daisy to check it for him, there was nothing wrong with the content of the document.
After finishing his business, Luke proposed, “It’s a nice day, let’s go to the beach.”
Daisy glanced at her watch, “I have an appointment with my client this afternoon and I still have to go back to the law firm.
However, I’ll personally cook for you at lunch today.”
“Sounds good.” Luke shrugged, having long since gotten used to it.
After breakfast, Luke took Daisy on a tour of the villa and watched a movie in the private theater inside the villa.
It was nearing noon, and Daisy went to make lunch.
Luke received an unexpected call, “Hello, Mr. Lee.
This is Romit Bull.”
“Mr. Bull, what can I do for you?”
This Romit Bull namely Luke’s new neighbor and the author of the novel “Vanishing Lovers”, the two had met before when Luke was investigating a case.
“Captain Lee, I don’t know when you have time, I would like to pay a visit to the door.”
Although he didn’t know the purpose of the other party’s visit, considering that we are all neighbors, Luke smiled and said, “I’ll have time this afternoon.”
“Is it okay to make an appointment at two o’clock in the afternoon?”
“Sure.”
“Great, I’ll see you this afternoon.” Romit Bull finished and hung up his cell phone.
Luke cell phone and rubbed his chin, he was also a little curious as to what Romit Bull was looking for himself for.
Daisy’s voice came from the kitchen, “Luke, I need your help, I’m not very good with your new oven.”
Luke smiled, “Coincidentally, I’m not very good with it either.
I’ll get the instructions and we can work on it together.”
With Luke’s assistance, Daisy made it through lunch without a hitch.
American dishes were all pretty much the same, but of course, there were still some differences in flavor.
Daisy didn’t know how to cook many dishes, but they tasted pretty good.
Especially a fried cod, the skin is crispy and the meat is tender, but also retains the freshness of the fish, which is Luke’s favorite.
There was also a mushroom soup, which Luke ate for the first time, and it was very much to his taste.
Such a good dish, how can you not have a little wine, Luke opened a bottle of red wine, and drank most of the bottle himself.
The only regret was that Daisy had to meet her client in the afternoon, so he could only drink alone.
After the meal, the two rested for a while, and Daisy went to work at the law firm.
Two o’clock in the afternoon.
Luke welcomed another guest, Romit Bull.
Luke welcomed him into the courtyard, and the two of them sat in the small garden to drink tea and chat.
Romit Bull put down his tea cup and asked, “Captain Li, I heard that the Mogaro Forest Park arson case was also investigated by you?”
Luke handed the other party a wazi and lit one himself and laughed, “That’s right, Writer Boole, you’re very well-informed.”
“As a writer of speculative fiction, I need to constantly look for new subjects and inspiration.
This biggest fire in Los Angeles in recent years is hard to stay out of the limelight.”
Romit Bull lit a cigarette, took a drag, and picked it up again to look at it, “What kind of cigarette is this, it tastes strange when smoked.”
“A kind of Chinese cigarette, it tastes okay when you get used to it.”
Romit Bull exhaled a smoke ring and said, “I heard that three bodies were found at the fire scene, can you talk to me about this arson case?”
Luke shook his head, “I’m sorry, this case is still under wraps and I can’t say much about it, at least for the time being.”
“I can understand that, and it does seem a bit presumptuous of me to ask.
But you know, I’m in the process of conceptualizing a novel with a police officer as the main character, and I need a lot of material.”
Luke offered, “I understand there are a lot of murder documentaries on the internet that you could check out that might help with the new book.”
“You don’t need to tell me that.
I’ve watched all the murder documentaries I can find, and besides, many of them have been adapted into novels or TV series, and they’re already rotten.
I want to write something different, a great work to rival Sherlock Holmes.” Romit Buhl’s tone was high with a wistful look.
“That’s an ambitious goal, what can I do to help you?”
“You know, I’m a best-selling author of sorts, with a small reputation and no shortage of money, but that’s not enough.
I want to be a great writer like Conan Doyle, I want my work to be popular all over the world, and to be passed down all the time.
But it’s not easy.
It’s hard, very hard.”
Luke guessed, “You’re hoping that I can provide some real-life examples that will give me material and inspiration for my work.”
“Yes, that is indeed one of the purposes of my visit today.”
“What was the other purpose?”
“The last time I attended the party, I mentioned to you that I wished to create a detective novel based on you, portraying you as the Sherlock Holmes of America.
I’m serious and would like your authorization.”
Luke wondered, “Why does it have to be based on me?
You can portray a character more in line with your requirements as the protagonist, and as long as your novel is exciting enough, and with enough publicity, I’m sure it’ll be another bestseller.”
Romit Bull shook his head, “I’m not short of bestsellers, and this isn’t difficult for me, I know more about publicity than you do.
But I now want to create a work that rivals Sherlock Holmes.
A great work that spans generations.
The kind of enduring influence that can’t be achieved by ordinary publicity.
That’s the main reason I’ve come to you.”
“Tell me, what can I do?”
“You don’t have to do anything, just be yourself, just live, the longer you live, the more cases you solve and the more famous you become, the more you will help my work.
You are the prototype of my novel’s protagonist, people will want to get to know you when they read my book, when they learn about your deeds and learn that you are indeed a ‘famous detective’ who has solved many big and strange cases, it will also add to the work, allowing it to receive more attention, and it can be said that it comes with its own topic.
When a work has a topic, it will be hot, and it can become a permanent and unfailing classic.” Romit Bull said with a sincere face, “Luke, please believe me.
I won’t joke about my work.
I’m a best-selling author myself, and no one knows more about the craft of writing than I do, and I won’t be any worse than Conan Doyle in this regard.
What I lack now is just a good topic, a bright spot that can bring more talk and heat.
And you’re the perfect creative partner for me.”
Luke spread his hands and asked bluntly, “What’s in it for me?”
“I can pay you a substantial license fee.”
Luke pointed to his yard, “You should know that I’m not really short of money.
Besides, being too famous isn’t good for a police officer.”
“Luke, you can’t be on the front line for the rest of your life, you have to think about your future.
When you become a high-ranking police officer, fame will bring you unexpected benefits, and your path will get wider and wider.
Fame and fortune are twins. The more famous you are, the easier it is to earn money.
An ordinary police officer can’t afford such an expensive mansion.
Believe me, it will be a win-win situation.”
Luke said thoughtfully, “I will seriously consider your proposal.”
