Part 1 The Joker Chapter 155 An Emergency Meeting
Settling down, Klein walked underground to the door of Charnis and knocked on the open door of the guardroom.
Sitting inside, Loyo Ledin, who had packed his personal belongings, saw the arrival of the shift worker and immediately straightened his hair, getting up and preparing to leave.
After exchanging nods and greetings, Klein spoke abruptly:
”My progress in mastering magic potions is good, I just shared my experience with Fry and the others, you can look for them to exchange ideas.”
Luo Yao, who didn’t have much of an expression, glanced at the other party in slight surprise, and opened and closed his lips a few times and said:
”Okay.”
Ma’am, hopefully you’ll keep that cool later too …… The rec room was now sitting on a bunch of woodies …… Klein smiled, went behind the table, and familiarly picked up the silver encrusted tin that Dunn-Smith had filled with Fellmer’s coffee.
After fixing a cup of strong, flavorful coffee, Klein sat down leisurely and looked out the door at the silent, deserted aisle, letting his thoughts wander:
”I hope everything goes well with Mr. Aztec’s operation and he doesn’t leave any clues …… No, even if there are any clues, I’ll pretend I didn’t find them ……”
”I wonder where the ‘Mutated Sun Sacred Emblem’ is sealed behind the Charnis Gate …… Well, it doesn’t have the property of being alive, just leave enough space… …”
”Speaking of which, I haven’t even entered the Charnis Gate until now, so I’m not sure of the state of affairs inside …… To be able to keep those dozens of large, small, and strange seals from causing damage and from falling out of supervision, there must be something unusual about it, such as, say, St. Selene’s ashes?”
……
In the midst of various thoughts, Klein suddenly heard the sound of hurried footsteps, and busied himself by withdrawing his attention and looking at the door.
He saw old Neal, dressed in a black classical robe, with a felt hat of the same color in his hand, appear in the corridor, enter the guardroom with a quick step, and stand opposite, without saying a word, examining himself up and down in that way.
”…… Mr. Neal, is something wrong?” Klein laughed dryly and took a sip of his aromatic coffee.
Old Neil sized him up a few more times and sighed:
”It’s amazing that you found inspiration from the motto of the ‘Secret Peeper’ and Daley’s example ……”
”That must be praised Goddess, and thank you for your teachings.” Klein replied in a serious manner.
Old Neil squeaked and pulled his chair and sat down violently, slightly disheveled, “If only, if only it had been twenty years earlier, it would have been better, it would have been better ……”
Knowing that the other party’s age and physical state no longer allowed him to take any more magic potions, even if he had completely digested the previous one, Klein held his silence and didn’t open his mouth.
He felt that saying anything in this situation would be irritating the other party.
”I also first tried to find out the idea of quickly mastering magic potions from the maxims of the peeping secretaries, unfortunately, I have not been able to go on the right path, and later on, even though Daley’s success gave me a revelation, but at that time I was over 50 years old, and had already given up on the effort, and subconsciously thought that it was the special of a genius, and could not be imitated by a normal person.” Neil Sr. rubbed the corner of his forehead and described his loss in a low voice.
He was silent for a few minutes, raised his head, and looked at Klein:
”It’s such a shame that I realized what I missed at such an age.”
Old Neil should be a little vague about “playing the law”, by the experience I shared a little bit, immediately figured out some things …… Klein relieved:
”Actually, it won’t make much difference, the Church doesn’t have a ‘secret peeper’ counterpart for Sequence 8.”
”Maybe the Holy Church does …… No, if they did, they would at least tell the branch the name …… It’s not impossible that the underground marketplace …… “Old Neil murmured a few words, propped his hand on the table, shook his head and stood up, grinning, “At least I didn’t lose control and live soundly for decades …… Praise the Goddess.”
He drew a Crimson Moon on his chest and left the guard room with a somber expression, losing his usual witticism.
Klein watched his back disappear from sight and suddenly let out a long sigh.
More and more, he could not understand why the church hierarchy wanted to block the “play law”.
After a long time, Klein returned to his senses and turned his attention to the internal information of the Night Watch in front of him.
Ever since he dragged the teenagers from the Silver City into the Tarot Club, knowing that many things there still had ancient names, he had consciously strengthened his studies in similar areas, trying to master the comparison of ancient and modern names.
Some time later, he heard another footstep, calm and steady.
Almost at the same time, the appearance of Dunn-Smith in a black knee-length trench coat came into his mind at once.
After thoroughly digesting the “Diviner” potion, my inspiration has improved …… Klein nodded thoughtfully and saw the captain a few seconds later.
”Your letter.” Dunn raised his right hand and with a flick of his wrist, he remained the letter in his palm toward Klein.
Klein raised his hand in a dashing manner and attempted to catch it, but both his judgment and reaction were a little off.
Snap!
The letter fell to the ground, and Klein’s right hand stood awkwardly upright in the wind.
In the sudden silence, his right hand first froze, then continued upward, smoothing his hair.
”The light from the gas lamp still isn’t bright enough.” Crane made a casual, perfunctory remark, stooped to pick up the letter, and scanned the envelope.
A letter from Mr. Hornachis …… Duster Guderian …… He nodded indistinctly, pulled open a drawer, and took out a letter cutter.
–According to the rules of the Night Watchman Squad, if there was a clear and correct addressee, Roxanne and the other clerical staff would deliver the letter directly to the corresponding one, while in the case of anonymity or a no-trace, it would be sent to Dunn, who would make inquiries or decisions.
Carefully cutting open the envelope, Crane drew out the paper inside, unfolded it quickly, and skimmed through it.
He found that Dr. Durst, the asylum doctor, was requesting a meeting as soon as possible, which would be at two o’clock this afternoon.
Did he get the Mind Reader formula? Or something else? Klein raised the letterhead in his hand and looked up at Dunn:
”Captain, my informant, the one from the Psychic Alchemy Society, wishes to meet at two o’clock in the afternoon.”
”Did you reveal what it was about?” Dunn asked as if he had expected it.
”No.” Klein shook his head.
Dunn thought for a moment and said in a mellow voice, “Wait and let Leonard guard the Charnis Gate for you for the time being, I’ll follow you over there and hide nearby, there’s a not-so-small chance that this kind of request for an urgent meeting could be a trap, I’ve seen and heard of too many things like this, and also, if it’s really important, this would be the fastest way to start the operation.”
…… Captain, you’re really experienced …… Well, when it comes to business, you’re the reliable, trustworthy, and unforgettable captain …… Klein nodded his head instantly:
”Yes!”
……
Two o’clock in the afternoon, Zotland Street Shooting Club, inside the small range #9.
Klein glanced at the bullet-riddled target and looked over at the slightly perturbed asylum doctor, Duster Guderian, and said:
”What went wrong to make you panic to the Hound Tavern for a mercenary squad?”
Only then would Wright, the owner of the Hound Tavern, immediately drop off the letter to Blackthorn Security instead of waiting for Klein to go over and pick it up himself.
Duster observed Klein’s subtle expressions and body movements and replied in a deep voice:
”I have a feeling that Hood Ogan has been a bit out of sorts lately.”
Hood Ogan was the same insane asylum patient who had developed Duster into a member of the Psychological Alchemy Society.
”What kind of abnormal behavior?” Klein pursued very professionally.
Duster, secretly relieved that he seemed to have found something to fall back on, weighed in:
”He, he seems, seems to be really crazy ……”
”Really crazy?” Klein asked rhetorically, stunned.
Wasn’t Hood Orgen pretending to be sick to sneak into the madhouse in order to exercise the corresponding ability in the spiritual realm, trying to influence those patients from both positive and negative sides?
He was actually sick and really crazy?
”I think so ……” Duster paced back and forth in a slightly agitated manner, “I was able to communicate with him normally before and was taught how to use the extraordinary abilities properly, but in the last few days, his thoughts, his state of being , has become strange, often there’s no way to communicate, just like when I’m dealing with other patients, although, although this has also allowed me to successfully get the formula for ‘Mind Reader’, I can’t confirm if that’s real or not, and I’m even more afraid of uncontrollable changes.”
It doesn’t matter, as a diviner, a diviner who owns the mysterious space above the gray mist, the true and the false are not to be confused …… Klein first sighed in relief, then frowned and asked:
”Who did he contact before he appeared abnormal?”
”Only the sick people, I, I can’t be sure, I’m not in an insane asylum every hour of every day, I have breaks too.” Duster replied with a stoic expression.
Klein nodded gently, as if it was a minor matter:
”Don’t be nervous, I’ll send someone to secretly protect you, you figure out as soon as possible who Hood Ogan has contacted before, in addition, you must be careful that he’s testing you, ergo, it’s best if you inform the other Psycho Alchemy Society members of this matter at the same time, and see how the higher-ups of your organization react.”
”Okay.” Duster pushed down his gold-rimmed glasses and regained the characteristic calmness of an audience member, then pulled out a piece of paper from his coat pocket and handed it to Klein, “This is the recipe for the ‘Mind Reader’ magic potion, I’m not sure if it’s correct.”
”We’ll verify it.” Klein replied with a smile, unfolding it on the spot and glancing at it.
”Primary ingredients: intact pituitary gland of an adult seven-colored lizard dragon, 10 milliliters of spinal fluid from a Falseman rabbit.”
”Auxiliary materials: 5 grams of chestnut tree sprouts, 8 grams of dragon’s tooth grass powder, 3 petals of pure white elf flower, 100 milliliters of pure water.”
”Very good.” Klein complimented and folded the paper, slipping it into a pocket on the inside of his tuxedo formalwear.
After exchanging a few more words and confirming that Duster’s “hallucinations” had subsided, he excused himself and discreetly made his way to the exclusive range belonging to the night watchmen, where Dunn Smith was waiting.
”Captain, the informant gave me a recipe for ‘Mind Reader’, thanking me for helping him control the backlash of the magic potion, but he is unsure of the authenticity of the recipe.” Klein handed the paper to Dunn in a proper and serious manner, “Also, he mentioned something ……”
Dunn nodded at the end as he skimmed through the formula and listened to Klein’s description of Hood Orgen:
”I’ll immediately organize manpower to monitor the madhouse on a rotating basis, you don’t need to be involved in this kind of thing since you haven’t received professional training yet, go back and continue to man the Charnis Gate.”
Speaking here, he looked deeply at Klein and said:
”Counting this formula, when you pass the examination, you don’t need to accumulate merit again, you can directly obtain the ‘Joker’ magic potion ……”
