Part 1 The Joker Chapter 166 Examination
The wind blowing from the ground carried a coolness of} people, and Klein felt a few moments of relief amidst his mental tightness.
Finally came ……
As long as I pass this hurdle, I won’t need to worry about anything like this for at least half a year ……
Once I’m promoted to Sequence 8 and become a so-called “Joker”, I’ll be able to have real combat abilities, and with the aid of divination and the “Yang Yan Charm”, even if I encounter a greater danger, I’ll still have a good chance of surviving it… …
In order to wait for the Holy Church’s examination, I didn’t even take out the 300 pounds deposited by Ms. Justice into the anonymous account, lest I be “audited” for financial problems and convicted of having a large amount of unaccounted for property… …
……
Just as Klein’s various thoughts flashed uncontrollably, Dunn Smith straightened his shirt collar and said in a low voice:
”The one in charge of this examination is one of the nine senior deacons of the night watchman, Crestai Sesima, and the Holy Church attaches great importance to you.”
”Senior Deacon?” Klein was stunned out of his mouth.
The thirteen archbishops and nine senior deacons were the usual meaning of the church hierarchy, and it was said that there was no shortage of high sequence powerhouses among them!
These twenty-two gentlemen and ladies were completely equal on the status level, following only the oracle of the Goddess of the Night and answering only to the Pope.
Dunn inhaled the cool breeze from the ground and nodded gently:
”Yes, a senior deacon, but you don’t need to be nervous, Crestai is only Sequence 5, he hasn’t stepped into the level of ‘half-god, half-human’ yet, so there’s no need to be too scared or intimidated.”
”Well, his title in the entire Transcendent World is ‘Goddess’ Sword’, because he has been recognized by a holy object, his combat power won’t be any worse than a Sequence 4 that has just been promoted.”
”I’ve already talked to him just now, and his attitude is very kind.”
The captain’s subtext is that he only said what he should say and didn’t say what he shouldn’t say, so that I don’t have to be nervous and follow the predetermined plan …… Klein nodded his head thoughtfully and asked, “Where should I go to meet this senior deacon?”
”The alchemy room where the potions are mixed.” Dunn replied simply and directly, a trace of gloom flashing across his face in a whirlwind.
The alchemy room for mixing potions? The same lab that old Neil used to mix the Diviner’s Potion? Kraven exhaled slowly and returned to the night watchman’s recreation room, removing his coat from the coat rack.
He slipped on the thin black trench coat, shoved his hands in his pockets, and descended the staircase that wound deep into the earth, turning left at the intersection.
Soon Klein saw a dark door illuminated by an elegant gas lamp, and saw that inside a long table had been removed, leaving the center section empty.
There were two classical high-backed chairs, which stood opposite each other, less than a meter apart.
The one facing the doorway was currently occupied by a man in his thirties wearing a black trench coat and white shirt.
His golden brown hair was shaved short, his dark green eyes resembled a moonless lake in the middle of the night, and the collar of his shirt and trenchcoat stood high, hiding his entire chin in the shadows.
”Greetings, Lord Cecima.” Klein bent and saluted.
With his right leg resting on top of his left, Cresta Sesima leisurely leaned back in his chair and smiled slightly:
”Hello, Klein, you may sit there.”
He gestured to the high-backed chair across the room.
At his feet sat a silver and white metal cast suitcase, similar in size and length to a violin case.
It would hold a sword that wasn’t too long …… Klein took a few steps forward and sat down where he belonged.
Krystai flexed his right index finger, pressed it against his nostrils, and said after a few seconds of contemplation:
”I intend to test your mastery of magic potions first, no problem?”
”No.” Klein shook his head confidently.
”Very confident.” Krysta let out a laugh, then maintained his stance from earlier and just gazed across the room silently like that.
Klein suddenly felt the glow of the gas lamps around him disappear, swallowed up by a thick darkness.
He became very tired at once, as if he had come to the hour of sleep marked by the physiological clock.
However, his mind was so tense that it was difficult for him to relax, just as it always was when he was too tired to sleep peacefully.
As the quiet of the night filled in around him, Klein heard the ticking of an untightened faucet, the sound of voices talking inside Blackthorn Security, and the wind blowing through the stairway.
Other than that, he didn’t see anything he shouldn’t, didn’t hear anything he shouldn’t.
”Very well.” Cresta’s magnetic voice dispelled the darkness, bringing the glow of the gas lamps both inside and outside the alchemy room back into Klein’s eyes.
Krynn haughtily released himself from his thick exhaustion, regaining the high spirits he’d felt a moment ago.
Unknowingly affecting me …… This is the level of Sequence 5? This is the terror of a senior deacon? He recalled what had just happened with a slight afterthought.
Crestai Sesima placed his hands crossed on his knees, and his entire body shrunk down a little so that his lips were blocked by the collar that was held high up:
”You passed the test, your mastery of magic potions is at an excellent level or above.”
”Next, I’m going to observe whether there are hidden dangers in your body and mind, whether the residual spirit of the magic potion has unknowingly changed your personality and left you with problems.”
”You have three minutes to adjust yourself.”
Klein nodded instantly:
”Okay.”
He took a secret breath and allowed himself to slowly enter a meditative state, dismissing all sorts of bad thoughts.
Without opening his mouth again, Crestai pulled out a silver pocket watch from the inside of his black trench coat and snapped it open.
Then, he watched intently as the second hand clattered away.
After three minutes, Crestai snapped the pocket watch closed and said with a smirk in his voice:
”I’m starting to chant.”
Chanting? Klein revealed a puzzled expression.
Without waiting for him to speak, Crestai hummed a melodious tune.
The melody echoed within the alchemy chamber, gradually losing its coordination and no longer matching the pitch.
Zee! Yikes! Stab!
This noise is more and more, more and more chaotic, so that his heart greedily born want to vent want to destroy the violent desire.
But Crane, who had often been put to the test of mad ravings and terrible hissing, soon suppressed all impulses.
He was also appropriately agitated, tense, disturbed and uneasy.
Too much perfection was rather a problem!
At some point, Cresta Sesima stopped chanting, and with that, the noise in the alchemy chamber disappeared, and the peace and silence of the underground flooded back in.
It’s so nice to be quiet! Klein exclaimed from the bottom of his heart.
”Good, very good, no hidden dangers to your body or mind, and of course, your desire to beat the crap out of me and gag me are among the normal reactions.” Crestfallen’s lips were held back by a collar held high, allowing one to judge his emotions only by the tone of his voice.
”No, I wouldn’t dare.” Klein admitted honestly.
Krysta let out a laugh and said:
”Congratulations, you passed all the tests, next up is the question and answer session.”
His dark green eyes suddenly became deeper, his gaze so dark that it seemed to be able to see through the flesh and into the soul.
”You may ask.” Klein straightened his back and said.
Crestai kept his posture unchanged from earlier and asked in a seemingly casual manner:
”You said that it was the experience at the Divination Club that allowed you to quickly master magic potions?”
”Yes.” Klein answered very frankly, but didn’t bother to be more descriptive.
Krysta nodded slightly and said:
”You said it was inspired by the ‘Secret Peeper’ motto and Daley’s example?”
”Uh-huh.” Klein first made an affirmation, then his words changed and explained in detail, “I learned from a ‘Secret Peeper’ teammate that any ‘Secret Peeper’ who adheres to the maxim has a probability of losing control that is far below normal, and after that, I heard what a quote from Ms. Daley once, who said that she wanted to be a true ‘psychic’, and that she was a genius who had been promoted to Sequence 7 within two years.”
”Combining these two sides, I thought I could try my hand at being a true ‘Diviner’ and summarizing and refining the ‘Diviner’s Code’, well, the results of the attempt were much better than I expected, and I quickly mastered the magic potion, Lord Cecima, I don’t know if you have a similar experience, when really mastering the magic potion, there will appear a special, marvelous feeling …… “Klein described his experience, vaguely not clear enough to elaborate the “playing law “.
In his previous life, he would have been nervous and blushed when he told so many half-truths in front of such a powerful Night Watchman, but since crossing over to this world, he had lied too many times, and had long gotten used to similar things, and played it flawlessly.
The deepness within Crestai’s dark green eyes disappeared, his gaze returned to its original form, and he let out a light laugh:
”Don’t worry, it’s not an illusion.”
From his reply, Klein did not detect suspicion or scrutiny, and his heart quietly relaxed a bit.
”Dunn confirmed your experience, I think you are indeed a genius with clear logic and sharp intuition.” Cresta praised and turned to ask, “Have you shared these experiences with your teammates?”
”Of course.” Klein admitted frankly, “I hope to help them reduce the probability of losing control, we are teammates, companions who have to face danger together, I can’t think of any reason to hide it, and for that reason, I didn’t tell the civilian staff.”
Crestfallen lowered his right leg and sat up straight, letting his thinner lips show through the shadows of his vertical collar.
The corners of his mouth turned up as he said:
”Though you’ve been a member of the Night Watch for less than two months, I think you have a better sense of companionship than many.”
”Well, I intend to share some of my experiences with you, but according to the rules of the Sanctuary, you must swear an oath to the Goddess not to tell anyone who doesn’t know these things about our conversation.”
”No questions, right?”
Passed the examination? Klein’s heart rejoiced and he nodded without hesitation:
”No problem!”
Although I can no longer directly teach others to ‘play the law’, I can still do it indirectly through Miss Justice and Mr. Hangman!
