Part 1 The Joker Chapter 69 The Amulet
Sweeping his sight, Klein saw the person who inquired about the ox-toothed peony.
The other party was less than a meter away from him, wearing a black formal dress, a half-height bowler hat of the same color, a silver-encrusted cane in his palm, and gold-rimmed framed glasses on his face, his temperament was rather svelte.
”Yes, do you need it? It’s a small jar of 3 soles.” The vendor was draped in a very occult dark black robe.
The inquirer with yellowish sideburns and svelte glasses thought for a moment and said:
”Can it be cheaper? I have to buy other ingredients, like this bottle of white-edged sunflower petals.”
The stallholder thought for a few seconds and replied grudgingly:
”2 Soule 6p, I don’t think you’ll find a cheaper price than that.”
Seeing that the man with the gold-rimmed glasses had bought not only ox-toothed peonies, but also white-edged sunflowers and other materials, Klein instantly felt as if he had overthought things.
However, he cautiously tapped his brow twice and swept the other party with his spiritual vision.
No problem, the body is healthy, the mood is still good, sir, you have to keep ah …… Klein withdrew his sight, turned his body, and looked again at the stall selling homemade amulets.
In his pupils, the individual amulets were clearly presented, there were sterling silver ones, iron ones, and gold casting ones.
But among these amulets, only so many two or three possessed a faint aura color, either scarlet, pale white, or golden.
This showed that they initially possessed spirituality, indicating that these few amulets had some effect!
In that bout just now, Klein watched carefully, confirming that the stall owner of the homemade amulets had some occult skills:
There was not a single mistake in the different power sources he picked for the different spells, and the corresponding materials he identified for the different power sources were even more correct.
Of course, a mere occultist would definitely have omissions, Klein realized that the stall owner did not know much about the spells themselves, it was not the case that translating the prayers according to the grammar of Hermetic language could be considered as a spell, the spells had to conform to a certain format, with a unique pattern within it.
The other problem was that the stall owner had made different degrees of errors in choosing the right symbols for the spell, for the “source of power”, so that out of dozens of amulets, only two or three of them were completely correct, emitting a “shimmering light”.
As for the extent of the effect of these two or three pieces, Klein could only say that something was better than nothing.
A true amulet with a visible effect would require the maker to let the spirit of the spell and symbols come out from the tip of the blade during the carving process!
For even better results, it had to be aided by ritual magic.
And both of these things were nearly impossible to do if you weren’t an Extraordinary.
Klein tapped his brow thoughtfully and tapped the upper left corner of the floor stand twice with his black cane and said:
”How much are these two pieces?”
He wasn’t asking about the amulets that were primed with the colors of the aura, but about the half-finished ones, the ones that were only in shape and hadn’t yet been engraved with spells and symbols.
For Klein, there was absolutely no need to buy the ones with weak effects; making the semi-finished products into real amulets was his goal.
Hmm, make Benson and Melissa each an amulet to avoid doom …… My own can rub off on the materials provided by the Nightwatchman Squad …… Hiss, am I being brought down by old Neil, thinking about such things without a trace of guilt anymore …… Klein’s thoughts were scattered as he watched the stall owner pick up the two half-formed silver amulets.
These two silver amulets one is in the shape of a long bar, the center has a hollow, surrounded by an angelic feather clusters, carving fine, very beautiful, the other is simple and plain, almost no additional modifications and lines, is the symbol of the night of a “vertical” inlaid with a “circle” representing the scarlet. “The other one is simple and plain, with almost no additional decoration or texture.
As a party of appearance, Klein could be said to have taken a liking to them right away.
”This one’s 6 Sole.” The stall owner, a quiet middle-aged man, said as he pointed to the more delicate one.
After a pause, he rubbed the simple one:
”This one is five soule and three pence.”
”That’s too expensive; in fact, they’re a long way from amulets.” Klein had been daily indoctrinated by Benson and Melissa, and was beginning to get used to haggling.
After some verbal battles, he bought the two pieces of silver jewelry for 5 Soule 6 pence and 4 Soule 9 pence respectively.
Well, for the time being, it can only be considered silver jewelry …… Klein thought as such.
And the 10 Soule 3p was deducted from the Divination Club funds (5 pounds) that he had finally received.
Just as Klein received the two pieces of silver jewelry and put them in his pocket, intending to go around to other stalls, he suddenly heard a soft, green voice:
”Sir, why don’t you buy the finished amulet?”
Klein whipped his head around to see that the inquirer was a young girl of fifteen or sixteen years old, wearing a long, soft yellow dress with a lot of lace, and holding a gauzy hat with inlaid ribbons in her hand.
”Because I intend to make my own amulet, you know, it’s every occultist’s wish.” Klein replied politely.
He didn’t want the vendor to think he was trying to steal business, although he did consider whether he wanted to make some extra money from this “craft” in the future.
The young girl, who had naturally curly brown hair and a rather cute baby face, looked at Klein with light blue eyes and asked sincerely:
”Can I ask you how to pick an amulet? Well, I was brought here by a friend, came here a few times, interested in the occult, but don’t know enough about it, well, she, that friend of mine will turn sixteen in a while, and I want to pick out an amulet to give to her, and didn’t ask her to come along because I hoped it would be a surprise……. I did ask for her advice in advance, but a lot of the key points came back to me can’t recall.”
Klein said with a gentlemanly smile:
”So what kind of amulet did you wish to pick? One that avoids bad luck? One that keeps away illness? One that can have monetary luck? Different requirements correspond to different sources of power, that is, different deities, which in turn correspond to different stars, and different stars correspond to different materials.”
”For example, the spell to avert doom is definitely attributed to the Empress of Doom and Fear, the Goddess of Night. And as occultists, we all know that the symbol of the Goddess of Night is the moon, and the metal corresponding to the moon is sterling silver.”
”So if we wish to avoid doom and gloom, then it would be best to pick an amulet made of silver with the appropriate incantation.”
And also the language of the spell is correct, the format is correct, the corresponding symbols of the “Queen of Doom and Fear”, the number of spirits, the spell markings, etc. are correct, and the positional relationship with each other is correct. …… But that would be too complicated to tell you! …… Klein silently added inwardly.
That young girl listened with crystalized eyes and asked rather puzzled:
”As a devotee of the goddess, can I wear the amulets of other deities?”
”There’s no problem, the deities won’t care about this trivial matter.” Klein pacified the other party.
His no problem referred to the wearer, while the maker would have to be careful, if a follower of the Storm Lord were to make an amulet of the Eternal Blazing Sun, it would more than likely reap the benefits of intense malice.
Of course, this referred to the kind that needed to have ritual magic to aid in its creation, and there was no need to care about the rest.
The young girl was visibly relieved:
”I hope it’s an amulet that blesses her health, which deity should I choose for this? The Eternal Sun, Mother Earth, or the God of Knowledge and Wisdom?”
”There is no problem with the Eternal Blazing Sun or the Earth Mother Goddess, the former corresponds to the sun and the latter is symbolized by the brown star.” Klein said with a smile, “The material of the sun is gold, and the metal of the brown star is lead, I would suggest the sun, I just don’t know if you have enough money with you.”
He suggested this because one of the three amulets that initially possessed the aura was a health amulet from the sun’s domain.
”It’s not ……” the young girl said, suddenly pausing and glancing warily at the silent, waiting vendor.
She thought for a moment and turned to ask:
”Once you’ve identified the materials, how do you recognize the spells and symbols?”
”Do you recognize Hermetic script?” Klein asked rhetorically.
”Just been exposed to it for a while.” The young girl replied not too kindly.
”Then let me help you choose.” Klein pointed his cane at the health amulet made of gold and said, “Whether it’s an incantation, or a symbol, there’s nothing wrong with it.”
The young girl lifted the hem of her skirt, half squatted down, and picked up the health amulet with the sunlight pattern on the edge, only to feel warm to the touch, and her body all seemed to relax.
”Thank you, thank you.” She stood back up and gave a grateful curtsy.
Klein chuckled:
”The next thing is for you to communicate with each other, I have other things to do.”
As he spoke, he glanced at the stall owner and realized that the other party had a very strange look in his eyes, as if he was hesitating to give himself a kickback.
With a dark smile, Klein didn’t care about this matter anymore, and quickly and unhurriedly turned the entire underground trading market around, not finding any truly extraordinary materials.
At this time, Old Neil had already returned the bill and came out, holding a dark-colored wooden box in his hand.
Seeing Klein’s puzzled look, he pointed to another room at the end and said:
”If you want to buy, or sell transcendental materials, go there, after all, no one wants to let people know which transcendental items they have bought.”
”Understood.” Klein nodded as if he was thinking.
He had no need to go over there for the time being, so he also walked outside the underground trading market with Old Neil piece by piece.
”How much did these elves cost?”
Suddenly, an inquiring voice entered Klein’s ears.
Elf flowers …… This is also the formula material of the “audience” magic potion ah …… Klein’s heart moved, sideways glance, once again saw the gentleman wearing gold rimmed eyes.
”What is it?” Old Neil asked slightly puzzled.
”Nothing.” Klein withdrew his gaze.
Though he was an associate member of the Nightwatchman Squad, he didn’t feel that all Extraordinary People had to be absorbed and imprisoned, believing that it had to be a case-by-case basis, in which the “spectators” were certainly the type that did little harm to the community, to the kingdom, or to the world, and the likelihood of a Sequence 9 getting out of hand was very low.
……
After leaving the Dragon Bar, Crane and Niall left the Docklands in a public carriage, and then separated in the North End to return to their respective homes.
The public carriage pulled into Daffodil Street and stopped at the curb, and Klein was about to get out when he suddenly saw a young lady in a long gray and white dress getting ready to come up.
This lady had smooth black hair, a rounder face, and slender eyes; her features were not considered outstanding separately, but together, they had a warm and sweet look to them.
Klein paid attention to her not because of her beauty, but noticed that her body was trembling slightly, shaking abnormally.
”Miss, you’re not feeling well?” Klein asked with the mindset of being a good person.
The young lady shook her head violently:
”No, I-I’m just so tired.”
At that point, the people getting off the bus behind him began to rush, and Klein had to leave first.
It was only when he was on his feet that he regained his concern for what had just happened, so he pinched his brow twice with his fingers, intending to make sure that the young lady really wasn’t in trouble.
If the other party did have a serious illness that was about to flare up, he would help send her to the hospital.
With his “Spiritual Vision” turned on and the colors of his aura appearing, Klein turned his body around and prepared to look at the gentle and sweet young lady.
