Part 2 The Faceless Man Chapter 191 The Will
WEST SIDE, CARPENZA HOTEL.
Forsyth assisted Lawrence into his room, and made him lie down against the bed.
It was one of the more luxurious inns, with a thick, soft, grayish-yellow carpet in every place except the lavatory, and a replica of a well-known painting on the wall.
Lawrence caught his breath:
”Thank you, Miss Vole, and pardon the inability of a dying man to curtsy.”
”No Mr. Lawrence, your problems have eased, as a former practicing physician I can tell you without a doubt that you will be able to live, once you have rested for a while we will go to the clinic or hospital.” Forsyth relieved the other man.
Lawrence smiled and said, “I know my own physical condition very well, you don’t need to comfort me, and as I am an astrologer by amateur, I have already had a premonition that I am going to die here in Baker’s Landing, within this inn.”
Apart from the superficial embellishments, he was telling the whole truth, he was nearly eighty years old himself, long gone was the robust and spirited lad he had been, and had it not been for the certain physical enhancements brought about by the Sequential Magic Potion, he might have been laid to rest in whichever graveyard he was buried in.
Originally, Lawrence thought he could still live for ten years, but he encountered the rebellion started by the former “traveler” Buttis, and suffered serious injuries at the hands of the Aurora Club, and his remaining children and grandchildren all died in that disaster.
The shock was so great that he almost didn’t recover from it, and the search for his two brothers and their descendants in Birkeland only yielded the result that they were long gone, traumatizing him once again.
All of these things added up to a clear sense in Lawrence that his life was at an end.
His initial plan was to go back to lay a bouquet of flowers at the graves of Lawboro and Annelisa, followed by an immediate return trip to meet with the other members of the family’s council of elders to hand over the aftermath of the incident, but the condition of an aging man is such that he really can’t say no anytime soon.
Without waiting for Voorhees to speak, Lawrence painstakingly removed a palm-sized notebook from the inner pocket of his half-open clothing.
The notebook’s cardboard casing was copper-green in color, giving it a very ancient feel.
It had a passage written on its surface in the ancient Forsak language:
”I come, I see, I record.”
Lawrence laid that notebook on the quilt on his chest and inhaled:
”Ms. Walls, if I die here, will you help me get it to Port Pritz?”
”Mr. Lawrence, you’ll be fine.” Voorhees emphasized.
At the same time, she subconsciously glanced at the notebook and realized that it was not thick, and there were three kinds of paper inside, one showing a burnt yellow color like baking dry and crispy, which was very scarce, one like tawny parchment, which was medium in quantity, and one which was just plain white paper, which was the most abundant.
Lawrence said with a strained smile:
”I mean if, Mrs. Vole, you will help?”
”Port Pritz isn’t far enough to even travel, and if I need to hurry, I can even make a half-day round trip with a steam train.” Forsyth nodded.
Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief, his spirits seeming to return a little:
”When I die, you wait ten minutes, take a glowing object from my body and deliver it, along with this notebook, to Dorian Gray of the Port Prize Fishermen’s Association; my money clip and the forty-two pounds in cash in it are my payment and thanks to you, and this clothing of mine will accompany me to ashes.”
”No, you needn’t give me anything; no, you won’t have any trouble, Mr. Lawrence.” Forsyth said sincerely.
As if he hadn’t heard what she was saying, Lawrence whispered to himself, “Maybe Dorian will give you some other reward, but that’s up to you …… I believe in you, and I can see from what happened to Annelisa that you’re a good girl… …”
He suddenly came to his senses and addressed Voorhees:
”Ms. Voorth, could you go to the first floor and bring me a bottle of boiling water? The waiter doesn’t know when he’ll be here.”
”No problem.” Without bothering to think about it, Voorhees grabbed the bottle of boiling water and walked out of the room.
After taking a few steps, she suddenly felt that something was wrong, because the water bottle in her hand was heavy, and it was obvious that there was still quite a lot of stock.
Foerth was about to return and inquire, when she suddenly noticed a strong spiritual fluctuation in the room.
This is …… Foerth was first stunned there, and then he understood Mr. Lawrence s intention:
As death approached, he obviously felt that his physical state began to be wrong, and he was afraid that he would lose control as a result and become a monster.
He wanted to die as a human, not a monster, so he chose to end his life himself.
This was the last decency of an extraordinary person.
Of course, if he turned into a monster, all his arrangements would fall away with him.
With a pang of gloom at the thought, Voorhees stood outside and waited for nearly ten minutes before pushing her way in.
She saw Lawrence lying soundlessly on the bed, seemingly much older, with a diamond the size of an eye beside him.
The light from the window shone in, refracting on the diamond, forming a beautiful scene like a starburst.
Hoo…… Forsyth exhaled, carefully examined once, found that Lawrence’s cause of death is the most common cardiac arrest.
……
Chorwood District, 15 Minsk Street.
Back at home, Klein rested for a while and went above the gray mist, intending to divine what had happened to Will Onsettin.
He let the thousand paper cranes fly out of the clutter in the corner and land on the long bronze table in front of him before removing the citrine pendant wrapped around his cuff.
While holding the spirit pendulum in his left hand, Klein adjusted his state with the help of meditation and recalled a scene he had seen in the woods outside the cemetery.
There were details that he might not have noticed, but his spirituality would certainly not be negligent, and this divination mainly utilized this and relied on the gray mist to eliminate interference.
After making the preparations, Klein materialized a new parchment and wrote down the “Divination Statement”:
”Will Onsettin is completely dead.”
Immediately afterward, he pressed the crane next to the divination statement, causing the citrine pendant to nearly touch the words.
After entering a meditative state and completing all the steps of the “Spirit Pendulum Method”, Klein opened his eyes and looked at the results:
The citrine pendant was rotating counterclockwise, quite fast, and by a considerable margin.
That’s a negative.
This means that Will Onsettin is not completely dead!
This …… Klein was again dismayed and struck by the fact that this seemed to be expected.
He thought for a moment and changed the divination statement anew:
”That body belongs to Will Onsettin.”
This time, the spirit pendulum gave a positive revelation.
The corpse did indeed belong to Will Onsettin!
Crane had a vague idea and once again wrote down a new divination statement:
”Will Onsettin’s corpse will rise.
After a calm and busy day, Klein saw the revelation:
It was spinning counterclockwise with great speed.
This means that Will Onsettin’s body will not be resurrected, that is, it will not be necrotic!
It seems that Will Ansettin has actively or passively abandoned his previous body and survived in another way. …… Is this matter related to the “Mercury Serpent”? Klein tried to divine other things, but all of them failed, including “Will Ensign’s current state”.
However, when he repeats his previous divination using the “dream divination method” and asks “Will Ensettin’s current location”, he still gets a similar image: a dark room and the sound of running water.
But it seemed to have a different feel.
Forget it, there’s no point in wasting time, it’s not like I’m going to get involved in …… Klein put away the Spiritual Pendulum and prepared to return to the real world.
Through the divination just now and all the things that happened before, he had a vague guess about Will Onsettin, but could not confirm it.
He suspected that Will Ensign was another “Mercury Serpent”!
As Sequence 1, the “Mercury Serpent” is not unique, there can be up to three “serpents” at the same time!
The “Mercury Serpent”, who is in charge of destiny, can simply locate the location of Allen Star’s spiritual body through a thousand paper cranes, create a false revelation to the other party, and undoubtedly has the ability to change a person’s destiny with a single word.
Will Onsettin, somehow weakened and threatened by the second Mercury Serpent, did everything to get rid of him.
As for the reason for their conflict, the answer is simple:
When there is no Sequence 0, there can be three Sequence 1s at the same time, but once there is a Sequence 0, there will be no Sequence 1s!
For this statement, the formula of the “Black Emperor” magic potion explains the real meaning.
One of the main ingredients of that formula was:
The extraordinary properties of the two “Kingslayers”!
The “Prince Regicides” are the Sequence 1 of the “Black Emperor” pathway!
As a Sequence 1, in order to be promoted to Sequence 0, you have to get all the extraordinary characteristics of the other two Sequence 1s in the same pathway!
With such speculation, Klein was more and more afraid to get involved in Will Ensettin’s business.
If my inference is correct, that is the real “fairy fight”, can not afford to mess with can not afford to mess with …… Klein spiritually fell, disappeared in the gray fog above the ancient palace.
……
The Queens area, a house in the area is not conspicuous, Mr. A convened by the extraordinary people party as scheduled.
Forsyth and Hugh changed their attire and accompanied Viscount Graylingt, who wore an iron black mask, into the hall and casually found a seat.
Viscount Graylint snatched up the party before it officially began, writing his needs to the attendant and praying to the goddess for an answer afterward.
Forsyth was as languid as usual, and wore a rare hood that covered her face with shadows.
She was thinking back to Mr. Lawrence.
What the eye-sized “diamond” was, she knew very well, it was the other party’s legacy of extraordinary characteristics, but she could not confirm for the time being that it belonged to the sequence of several.
The notebook, Forsyth casually flipped through it, and found that many of the papers inside were still blank, and the parts with contents were filled with all kinds of strange, weird, mysterious symbols and magical signs, which were completely beyond Forsyth’s scope of knowledge.
It doesn’t matter what it is, what matters is that I have to keep my promise …… Voorhees admonished himself.
At that moment, Mr. A, sitting on a single couch with an exaggerated hood, spoke hoarsely:
”I have a mission.
”Help me find some people who believe in the so-called ‘Fools’.”
Huh? Voorhees snapped back from his thoughts for a moment.
