Part 3 The Traveler Chapter 122 A Different Enemy
Hearing the fat apothecary’s question, Klein laughed in his mind, outwardly cold:
”Starting with your first payment.”
Duckwell first pulled out a large amount of cash without hesitation, then heartily counted it:
”This is three hundred pounds.
”You can honor the agreement.”
Klein took the bills and nodded:
”No problem.”
Duckwell instantly relaxed, like a drowning man finally grabbing a life preserver.
More than half an hour later, inside the “Teyana” hotel, Duckwell stared blankly at the powerful adventurer Germaine Sparrow and said to the front desk on duty:
”Change to a deluxe suite.”
With that, Klein took two steps back, seemingly yielding his place to the fat apothecary.
Duckwell swallowed and asked hesitantly:
”I pay?”
”During the mission, all expenses are borne by the employer, this is the rule for adventurers.” Klein responded without changing his face.
I believe you’re a dumb ass! Do I have to pay for you even if you call a few girls from the Red Theater? Duckwell thought for a moment and squeezed out a smile:
”We could just use a regular room, it’s easier to protect.”
”Then you can stay by yourself.” Klein played Germaine Sparrow effortlessly.
Duckwell laughed twice and walked up to the counter with little expression:
”A deluxe suite.”
After actually checking in and entering the smaller bedroom, Duckwell, the fat apothecary, opens the window, leaving the door open for Mr. Harry the Owl, while pulling out the ring box in his coat pocket and checking the condition of the strange dice.
After confirming that the dice were still the same as before, with four points facing up, there was no change, Duckwell quietly exhaled.
……
Berklander, inside an ordinary house.
Ince Zangwill awoke from a deep sleep, and his first thought was to confirm his condition.
It was something he repeated every day, for he had no way of knowing what stories “0-08” would weave and what surprises he would bring after he fell asleep.
After making sure he was unharmed, Ince Zangwill put on his shiny leather boots and stood up.
He was not surprised to see “0-08” sitting quietly on his desk, as if it were the most ordinary and common quill pen.
However, last night it had been locked inside a metal box with layers of symbols and magical markings.
Ince Zangwill walked over to it, gripping “0-08” in one hand and opening the notebook next to it to find nearly a page of text:
”Ince Zangwill had no recollection of what he had done last night, but he was acutely aware of something.
”He looked into the mirror and realized that there was actually something strange about himself in there, as if another Ince Zangwill had been born inside him.
”He lowered his head and saw a distinctly unusual presence in the nail crevices of his hands, but couldn’t for the life of him recall what he had done last night ……”
After reading this description, Ince Zangwill instinctively looked at the full-length mirror in the room, only to see that the self inside was still blind with only one eye, and his classically sculpted face did not have a single wrinkle, but the corners of his mouth were positioned in a position where a slight smile remained, which was in stark contrast to the stony gaze.
At this moment, Ince Zangwill felt that his face was a little green, the lower part of his eyes was black, and with that smile that he had completely somehow appeared, the overall appearance was very eerie, vicious and bizarre.
He lifted his hands and lowered his head, and saw that there were chunks of dried black sludge in the crevices of his fingernails, as if he had gone out to the garden in the middle of the night yesterday to dig up roots.
Although he had already switched from the “Death” path to the “Night” path, becoming a “Night Watchman”, Ince Zangwill had not lost his previous extraordinary ability, and was still a powerful psychic, necromancer, and a “Night Watchman”. But Ince Zangwill hadn’t lost his extraordinary ability, and was still a powerful psychic, a tutor in the realm of the dead, so he immediately planned to communicate with the spirits inside and outside of the house, to find out what had happened last night.
At that moment, out of the corner of his eye, he caught the last paragraph on the notebook:
”Ince Zangwill attempted to channel the spirits, but sadly found himself with no luck; it seemed that someone equally professional had disposed of all the clues. He is worried, he wonders what he got himself into last night.”
With an increasingly sullen expression, Ince Zangwill attempted the seance, and predictably gained no results worthy of surprise.
……
Wednesday morning, outside the Fragrant Leaf Bar, where the owners behind the scenes had changed.
Klein circled to a secluded alley and met Urs Kent, who was carrying a small suitcase.
”Your bounty.” Urs Kent tossed the not-so-big suitcase over.
This wasn’t actually a bounty in the true sense of the word, it belonged to the military’s advancement – the former involved the Governor’s Office and the kingdom’s finances, and there were many processes that needed to be gone through, which wouldn’t be completed for at least another three days.
Klein caught the suitcase and opened it on the spot, seeing that it contained neat stacks of banknotes, dominated by one and five pounds.
”That’s a total of 5,400 pounds, no draw.” Urs Kent forced a smile.
Any other adventurer, he would have given 4000 pounds at most, the rest being the income of a series of people in the link.
But the opposite side is a crazy guy, the strength is even closer to the pirate general, afraid of being shot on the spot he had to volunteer his labor.
The military should not cheat me …… with fake bills Klein grabbed a stack of bills and casually shook his hand.
5400 pounds …… Duckwell, who was hiding outside the alley, heard Urs Kent s words and stole a glance at the suitcase, and was dazzled by the stacks of gold pounds filled with texture inside.
It was the first time he had seen so much money put together.
”Adventurer is really a lucrative profession ah, hunting a successful pirate is a few thousand pounds, protecting me for three days earns 1000 pounds plus a request, and occasionally I can find shipwrecks and treasures …… Why do I want to be a medicine man instead of an adventurer? I should have chosen that lucky extraordinary path if I knew it earlier ……” Duckwell thought with unusual envy.
However, he quickly remembered the reality that most adventurers were actually not that well off, and even if they did manage to make a fortune, one-third of their income would have to be contributed to the pharmacist, either to treat injuries and eliminate old problems, or to buy medicines to help with hidden illnesses.
Still do pharmacist safety …… Duckwell in the heart long sighed.
At this time, not carefully counted only roughly determined the amount of Klein closed the suitcase, said to Us-Kent:
”I will leave Bayam for a while, if there is any news, how should I inform you?”
”You’re leaving Byam?” Urs-Kent asked back, slightly surprised.
Klein nodded gently:
”Took a bodyguard assignment.”
Urs-Kent was first dazed, then an inexplicable sense of relief surged.
This madman, if he stays in Bayam for a long time, will one day cause a big problem, or it is better to float on the sea and fight with those pirates …… Urs Kent smiled at once:
”You can just send a telegram with my address, there are our people at the telegraph office.”
”Good.” Without further ado, Klein, dressed in a black tweed overcoat, lifted his suitcase and turned to leave the alley.
He joined Duckwell and headed straight for the harbor area, ready to board the earliest passenger ship to Orave Island, while the owls flew among the street trees, looking sneaky and furtive-they had bought their tickets for the black ship last night.
For half an hour before boarding, Duckwell was quite tormented by the fear that the man who had betrayed his teacher would suddenly arrive and attack him.
This emotion was maintained until he entered the first-class cabin to which he belonged – as soon as the passenger ship entered the sea, it would be difficult for an extraordinary person without the power of flight or his own vessel to intercept it midway.
”Sail the ship, sail the ship ……,” Duckwell muttered as he looked out the window.
By this time, the owl had followed him, resting on his left shoulder, and Klein was sitting in his room chair, on guard against any attack that might come.
Just then, the sky flew darker, the wind grew stronger, and the humidity in the air climbed noticeably higher.
”There’s a storm?” Duckwell opened his eyes and took off.
That meant the ship might not set sail on time, perhaps delayed by a few hours!
And that would put Duckwell at a lot of unnecessary risk!
He turned his head to Germaine Sparrow and squeezed out a smile:
”Is there anything you can do?”
Yes, there is, for example, you pray to Kavituva, the God of the Sea, and I’ll respond to the gray mist and dispel the storm. …… But there’s no doubt that in a few minutes, or even a few dozen seconds, the King of the Seas will be in a state of shock, and he’ll have a lot to lose. “Yarn Kautman” would have arrived, and his attack would have been even earlier …… Klein looked at the fat apothecary and responded calmly:
”I’m just an adventurer.”
Knowing that he really shouldn’t have unnecessary expectations, Duckwell cursed the weather and turned his body back around, poking his head out the window and studying the specifics.
Boom!
A silver-white bolt of lightning struck down, hitting Duckwell straight on before Klein could react.
Duckwell fell down in a convulsive heap, his body smoking, his skin charred, and his electricity snaking through his body.
Klein was nearly stunned, it was the first time he had ever seen someone struck by lightning during a thunderstorm.
This was too much bad luck …… He briefly actually forgot to rescue Duckwell.
Mr. Harry the Owl similarly froze for a few seconds, then screamed:
”Quick! There’s a potion in the second concealed pocket to his left, feed it to him!”
This owl can talk …… Klein raised his eyebrows, took a few steps forward, bent his body, located the blood-red potion, and then forced it into Duckwell’s mouth.
After nearly two minutes, Duckwell finally came to his senses, dropping his charred skin as he stood up with difficulty and said:
”I… I’ll go tend to the wound.”
He hobbled into his bedroom and unlocked the door.
After doing so, he took out the ring box and opened the lid heavily.
Inside the ring box, which had almost no room to turn, the cream-colored dice had somehow made a change, with the red two points facing up!
Outside in the living room, Klein stood still, recalling everything that had happened before, his brows furrowing a little.
At this moment, he inexplicably felt that the enemy he was about to face in this bodyguard mission might not be quite the same as in the past.
When Dakwel recovered initially and came back out, Klein sat down on the chair and spoke with his body slightly leaning forward:
”Explain.
”This is about how I provide protection.”
