Part 3 The Traveler Chapter 160 – Three in One
A knight who knows the language of dragons, and even uses it predominantly during the key stages of his growth …… No wonder the “Psycho Alchemy Society” wanted to get the notes he left behind …… Audrey collected her thoughts in a dazed manner. Collecting her thoughts, she happily and seriously exchanged questions about the grammar with Michelle Deiter.
Soon, they finished discussing the notes, and Michelle began to introduce the rest of the collection.
Time passed by, the visit gradually came to an end, Audrey had originally planned to make a purchase request next time, so that things did not seem so purposeful, but the friendly and kind atmosphere, the naturalness of the speech padding, let her keenly feel that this is an opportunity, so with the power of the “lie” necklace, let the cheeks stained with an embarrassed blush of embarrassment:
”Mr. Deyt, that Sauron royal helmet from the War of the White Rose is a fine reminder of my ancestry, and I take the liberty of asking if I may buy it from you? Also that notebook from the period of the Twenty Years’ War, as I have great admiration for the knights who stood firm on the island of Sunia, I would like to have it just as much.
”I realize this is an impolite request, but I hope you understand my feelings, and of course, you have the right to refuse.”
Her eyes rolled and dodged, half on purpose and half in truth, making herself look weak and cowering, shy and pathetic.
Michel actually subconsciously averted his eyes for a moment, and said in a conciliatory voice:
”I am a collector, and I will not sell my collection.”
His tone and words are not resolute enough …… The information collected before shows that he is a gentleman who pays close attention to his reputation, and I’m afraid that directly using money to buy his collection is a way that he can’t accept …… “Psychological Alchemy Society”. “Not to find another person to complete this task, on the one hand, it just happens to accumulate contributions for me, on the other hand, it should be to be concerned about Mr. Associate Professor’s attitude in this regard …… must be a different way …… Audrey visited here before she had Meticulously formulated different preplans based on the harvested intelligence, and after a little thought directly digressing from the topic, she turned to ask:
”Mr. Deyt, I heard that you are seeking to establish an antiquities research institute within the Storne University?”
”Yes, that has been my goal for the last few years.” Michelle looked back at Audrey and answered frankly.
Audrey sketched a light smile and said:
”I’m very interested in this area of research and have great respect for you, and I hope to see you achieve your heart’s desire.
”Well, I would like to make a donation of £1,000 in cash, 2,000 acres of land just nearby, and a good yielding estate to the University of Stourne, to your college, in order to initially set up a public fund for antiquities collection and preservation, and I know that it won’t be enough but I’ll be lobbying ladies and gentlemen of my acquaintance to contribute in some way as well. (Note 1)
”Mr. Deiter, you are the most professional antiquities collector and researcher I know, would you be willing to head up this public benefit fund?”
2,000 acres of land near the university, which is worth almost 6,000 pounds, plus the manor and cash, Miss Audrey donated close to 10,000 pounds …… With such a public welfare fund for antiquities collection and preservation, the difficulty of applying to my institute will be minimized… …Michelle was silent for a few seconds, revealed a heartfelt smile, and solemnly saluted:
”Honorable lady, I am touched by your attention to academics, it shines brightly enough to rival your beauty your cultivation, I don’t think I have any reason to refuse your invitation.
”I have transcribed the contents of that notebook, and I will deliver it and that helmet to your mansion to-night; it is the gift of a sincere friend.”
Success! Audrey’s heart was so full of joy that she only wanted to praise herself, but on the surface she was reserved and serene, without the slightest act of rudeness.
”It is an honor.” She said sincerely.
While the two collectibles certainly weren’t worth ten thousand pounds, she wasn’t going to lose anything by it.
In her preconceived plan, the offer contained a threefold purpose, a threefold gain!
The first purpose was naturally to get the items, complete the commission, and successfully obtain the “Hypnotist” magic potion formula from the “Psychological Alchemy Society”.
The second is to use the donation of academic research to protect the ancient items of the way, to maintain and enhance their own reputation, status and image, this is most of the aristocrats most of the rich are doing things, even if there is no today’s donation, Audrey will contribute 3,000 pounds a year or even more to the various charitable organizations, so she believes that her father, Earl of Hall will not prevent their own name a small amount of real estate to do a similar treatment.
The third weight is a focus on antiquities collection and protection of the Foundation is easy to access some valuable historical information and mysterious objects, Audrey does not need to personally come forward, just sitting at home, it is possible to harvest their own helpful things, equal to 10,000 pounds prying more money, to establish their own “power”.
Of course, if Michelle Deyter did not accept this kind of exchange, she had other plans: in the Kingdom Higher Education Committee, there are people from the Hall family, as well as noble friends she knows, as long as Mr. Associate Professor has the corresponding needs, she will certainly find a way to satisfy him.
However, Audrey didn’t like this way too much, and always felt that it wasn’t honorable enough, and seemed to damage the public interest.
After talking things over, Audrey lingered a while longer, making small talk for about a quarter of an hour, making the winding up of things seem not at all abrupt.
Then she took her leave of Michel’s house and returned by carriage to the Hall family’s villa in the city of Storne.
Just after eight o’clock in the evening, she received, as promised, the helmet from the royal family of Sauron and the book of notes from the period of the Twenty Years’ War.
Audrey put on her white gloves and sat down at the desk with interest, putting the helmet aside and flipping through the contents of the notes with seriousness.
She found that the things recorded in them were fragmentary, the early part of the book being mainly about how that knight stationed on the ancient elven island had learned to brew Sunia blood wine, chase ladies around, and kill boredom, while the middle and late part of the book went into a twenty-year war phase, dominated by cursing the Forsaks, complaining about his companions, and contemplating options for holding on to his position, which ended after the first loss of the island of Sunia.
”Other than the grammar has a habit of approximating the Gargoyle language, there’s nothing too wrong with it ah, and I can’t see where the clues are hidden ……” Audrey frowned slightly and closed her notes.
Just now, she had used the occult method to do a check, and still had no luck.
This makes her not want to waste time, ready to just hand over to the “Psychological Alchemy Society”.
In the midst of her thoughts, she suddenly had a new idea:
”Mr. ‘Fool’, Mr. ‘Inverted Hanging Man’, always consider different aspects of the matter and give advice, shouldn’t I learn it?
”Well …… think of it another way, assuming for a moment that there is nothing wrong with the content of the notes, what would the ‘Society of Mental Alchemy’ be pursuing in and of itself?
”What would be special about it itself? I didn’t find it just now ah …… it belonged to a knight who was accustomed to using the Gargoyle language, that knight must have experienced something …… divination, yes, divination! It might be possible to use divination to find that knight’s last whereabouts or first traces with the help of this notebook, which was likely to be related to a giant dragon!
”Since it’s a gargoyle, there’s a not-so-small possibility that it’s a psychic gargoyle, which represents the ‘audience’ pathway, and clues related to it are indeed worthy of the ‘Psychic Alchemy Society’s’ attention… …
”Audrey, that’s a good thought!”
Audrey’s eyes crystallized for a moment, seeming to hide an obvious radiance.
She couldn’t help but turn her head sideways and look at the big golden furred dog squatting next to her.
Susie glanced at her master and woofed:
”Audrey, are you asking me to praise you?”
”No, no need ……” Audrey turned her head back in slight shame.
Then, she realized an important problem, that is, she can not divine, or the revelation obtained by divination is very low in accuracy!
There is no way to verify …… No, I can still ask Mr. “Fool” for help! A secret ritual? This seems to work only on oneself, not on external objects …… Artificial sleepwalking? It’s similar to the ritual, but also doesn’t work …… Sacrificing to Mr. Fool, letting k help me with divination, and then giving it to me, no, no, no, that’s not respectful, k isn’t my father or my teacher, he’s a real god, and that’s too casual and blasphemous a method! It’s a bit blasphemous …… Audrey’s thoughts gradually progressed from Mr. Fool-related to divination-related.
Although she is not very good at divination, but she still has a certain understanding of the corresponding occult knowledge, and soon pinpointed a large category of divination methods:
That is, through certain rituals, requesting a third party power, requesting an unknown, mysterious existence to give the answer, the most typical representative of this type of method is the “Magic Mirror Divination”!
”Well …… it is indeed dangerous, but the danger lies in the fact that the object of the request may be filled with malice or cause a person to break down just by touching it, whereas I have no such concerns at all, and I’m asking Mr. ‘Fool’ to do it. ” Audrey blinked and pushed down her inner excitement, turning her head sideways to the big blonde dog:
”Susie, go stand guard outside the door, I’m going to examine this notebook using occult methods.”
”Didn’t you use it just now?” Susie asked suspiciously.
She is getting worse and worse at fooling …… Audrey’s eyes turned slightly and said frankly:
”I’m going to try ‘Magic Mirror Divination.
”Don’t worry, I have a safe object to request.”
”Okay.” Susie made sure Audrey was telling the truth.
It took a few steps, then turned its body and barked a warning:
”Audrey, you have to be careful about being possessed by a projection of a mysterious being.”
”I know.” Audrey responded without worrying at all.
In her opinion, if Mr. “Fool” really wanted to be detrimental to himself, he would have had countless opportunities long ago, there was no need to wait until now.
When Susie opened and closed the door, Audrey sat down at the desk, chanted the name of Mr. Fool, and applied for the “Magic Mirror Divination”.
After a while, Klein, who was in the Future, entered the lavatory, came above the gray mist, and heard Miss Justice’s prayer.
”Still? Yes, as a mysterious, unknown existence, I can indeed act as a third party power in the ‘Magic Mirror Divination’……” Klein gave a somewhat amused “Yes! ” this reply.
Audrey immediately picked up the notebook, sat down in front of the dresser, facing the mirror lit a candle.
Note 1: Acres in this book refer to metric acres. In the mid to late Victorian era, land on the outskirts of a city was roughly £100 to £130 per acre, which translates to £2.10 shillings to £3.5 shillings per acre, well, except for the outskirts of London, but of course, this may not be too accurate, and I’m extrapolating this from the total expenditure on buying land to build a house minus the cost of the house’s construction from sources of the time.
