Part 3 THE TRAVELER Chapter 30 – Is it over?
After Klein retrieved his hat, Bishop Miller’s extraordinary features had coalesced, the size of a thumb, pale blue and clear, but with occasional traces of lime green scraping through it, and a “tide” of darker, almost blacker colors running through it.
Open the pistol wheel, Klein force a shake, or gold or silver or brass empty shells flung to the ground, making a clanking sound.
Then, without a moment’s hesitation, he took out the loader he had prepared and loaded another extraordinary bullet into the gun.
With that done, he put away the revolver and bent down to pick up Bishop Miller’s Extraordinary Characteristics and tucked it into his coat pocket without much care.
Taking a few diagonal steps, Klein retrieved his cane and, as he turned toward Cleves and the others, casually drew out a piece of paper man and flicked his wrist as if he were wielding a whip.
Snap!
The paper figure was quickly set on fire and flew up out of his hand, turning into bits of crimson that fell to the ground and extinguished into dust.
”So cool ……” Denton forgot the pain of the fall he had just taken and watched with rapt attention.
Uncle Sparrow was like setting off fireworks …… Donna nodded her head in agreement with her brother’s words.
After interfering with the information and residual traces of the scene with the “Paper Man Replacement Method”, Klein looked in the direction of the return and said calmly and succinctly:
”Get out of here.”
After saying that, he directly turned around, quickly and unhurriedly took a step, and received the “sun brooch” and the Aztec copper whistle from Ailan and Daniz respectively.
Uldi and the others did not talk nonsense, did not cry out in pain, as quiet as a quail followed.
In the battle just now, they have fully seen the extraordinary person’s special, especially Daniz’s flame ability, the most eye-catching, very obvious, left them a very deep impression, so that they truly understand that this is not an ordinary human being can not get involved in the matter, they and others can only do is to listen to the arrangement, try their best to follow.
Only in this way could they ensure survival!
Relative to Daniz’s side, the performance of the battle between Kline and Bishop Miller was focused on the nearly invisible wind blades and the truly intangible spiritual realm, and apart from the holy light that seemed to descend as if it were a god and the terrifying appearance of Bishop Miller after he lost control of his body, the whole thing was uneventful and unperturbed, and didn’t cause the onlookers to have too much of a shocking emotion.
Passing by the area just now, Krivis, Cecil and the others suddenly paused in their footsteps, because they saw the ground covered with traces of cuts, densely packed, everywhere.
This …… they instantly understood one thing, that is, the battle between Germaine Sparrow and the fallen bishop was many times more thrilling and terrifying than the other side of the show.
A sense of fear and a sense of security surged at the same time, and they all quickened their pace.
Twenty or thirty seconds passed, and Crane stopped in the street outside the telegraph office, and said to Captain Erland without much expression:
”Going to the telegraph?”
When he finished, he could not resist a word of caution:
”Don’t force your way in.”
”Okay.” Aerlan was equally cautious on this eerie night.
He took a few quick steps to the telegraph office gate, raised his hand and knocked three times.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
A slightly dull sound echoed, and someone inside opened his mouth and asked:
”Who?”
The already wary Klein frowned suddenly as it was a man who spoke!
Erland was also a little surprised:
”I want to shoot a telegram.
”Who are you? I remember the previous watchman was a lady.”
The man inside replied evenly:
”I am, Pavo Court, Melanie’s colleague.
”She’s right, next to me, and she’s fine.”
As soon as Pavo Court’s words left his mouth, the female voice from before spoke right after him:
”Yes, I’m fine.
”You need not, again, pay attention, Pavo Court, to return.”
My friend, isn’t it your folk’s custom not to open the door without responding? How did Pawel Court get in? Klein resisted the urge to question.
Erland stepped back and cleared his throat:
”I’d like to shoot a telegram to Storm Church headquarters.”
”I’m sorry, we, uh, can’t open the door.” Pavo Court responded without emotional upheaval.
Sensing the same kind of eeriness, Erland didn’t dare to force the issue and offered an alternative:
”Would it be possible for you to send it for me, and then give me the negative through the door?
”It reads Banshee Harbor Mutiny, Bishop Miller and Pastor Jace Dead, signed by Erland.”
”Good.” Melanie’s voice faded away and seemed to have returned to the telegraph.
After waiting for a while, there was a ticking sound from inside, and before long a telegraph primer was sticking out of a crack under the door.
Erland stooped to pick it up, resisting the urge to peer inside through the crack.
He glanced at the telegram primer and his nose suddenly twitched, smelling the faint odor of blood from the paper!
He hastily turned his head sideways and looked at Germaine Sparrow, signaling with his eyes that something was wrong inside the telegraph office.
However, he was answered by a deep, introspective and unruffled gaze, and a calm, indifferent sentence:
”Return to the ship.”
Dropping these words, Klein turned directly around and marched towards the end of this street, his figure gradually blending into the pale mist.
Daniz, who was carrying a shattered horse lamp, immediately drew up his legs and followed without hesitation, and Donna and the others did the same.
Erland pondered for two seconds, and took the bottom of the telegram to catch up with the army.
No more sound came out of the telegraph office, and it was unusually quiet.
……
Perhaps because the fallen Bishop Miller had already been removed, Klein and the others on their way back didn’t encounter that kind of headless man in a black cloak again, and the head with moldy spots only appeared twice and was easily resolved.
After walking for who knows how long, they finally saw the docks, and the White Onyx with a candlelight streaming through it.
This gave Uldi and the others the strength to go from a brisk walk to a trot, all the way to the lowered gangway.
Krynn, carrying his bloodstained cane, stood guard until all were aboard, then he pulled and leapt back to the deck in a few steps.
By this time, Aeran had begun to gather the first mate, second mate, chief navigator, chief gunnery officer, and other subordinates, telling them to organize the sailors, adjust the guns, and prepare to set sail at any time – although there was no small safety risk in leaving the port at night, it would be the best way to avert the danger if things got significantly worse!
”Uncle Sparrow ……,” Donna said, pulling her brother Denton along with her and trotting over to Klein’s side with a load of questions to ask.
Klein nodded and pointed to the cabin:
”Go to your room first.
”We’ll talk tomorrow.”
The danger was not yet over!
Donna nodded curtly and, along with Denton, raised her index finger and held it against her lips:
”Hush!”
Once the Blanches and the Dimmertos had entered the cabin, Klein walked over to Aeran, pulled out Bishop Miller’s extraordinary trait, and tossed it over:
”If there are still ‘vicarious punishers’ alive, give it back to them.”
The extraordinary characteristics left behind by a bishop who might have Sequence 6 would inevitably be vigorously pursued by the Storm Church, and all the people on the White Onyx would be the object of suspicion, Klein didn’t want to be wanted by the number one power on the ocean just after he had sailed.
If none of the Punisher survived in Banshee Harbor, and support from headquarters would take a while to arrive, giving Klein plenty of time to deal with the situation and leave, then he would not be able to return it, and would find a reason to ask for it back.
Erland caught the thumb-sized mass and glanced at it in slight confusion.
He didn’t ask what exactly it could be used for and laughed:
”Don’t worry about the Storm Church’s investigation, I’ll hint to them that you and I are in cahoots.”
So, I’m considered by the Storm Church to be a member of MI9? Klein nodded gently and didn’t say much.
Aeran looked down at Danez next to him and asked tentatively:
”Flame?”
”Haha.” Daniz laughed dryly twice, following someone’s example, “You guess.”
”I don’t think so then.” Erland responded silently.
After briefly handing over the matter, Klein went to the side of the ship and looked out at the mist-shrouded Banshee Harbor, wary of hidden dangers.
As time passed, the peaks of the shoreline mountains lit up with the light of a thunderstorm once again.
A streak of silver-white, violent lightning raged there, gradually subsiding.
The fog of Banshee Harbor began to dissipate, and the light of the red moon became clearer and clearer.
It’s over? Klein didn’t dare relax completely at the sight.
After another half hour, three men who called themselves “The Punishers” arrived at the dock to see Captain Erland.
After Gelman Sparrow’s divination confirmation and blackmailing the other party once, Aerlan asked the sailors to lower the gangway.
The three “vicarious punishers” signaled the crew around them to leave, then lowered their voices to inform the captain of the situation.
Klein didn’t lean in to listen, but waited patiently for things to wrap up.
A few minutes later, Aeran returned Bishop Miller’s legacy to the “vicarious punishers” and watched them leave the White Onyx to deal with the situation in various places.
Phew …… Aerlan exhaled, came to Klein and Daniz, and said in a relaxed and fearful manner, “The matter is resolved, there is no more problem.”
Is it really solved …… Klein remembered Pavo Court and Melanie behind the door of the telegraph office with a huff, and Fox, the owner of the Lime Diner, and one of the stay-at-home guests who had quietly watched him.
Erland continued:
”Specifically, Jace stumbled upon a revival of the ancient practice of cannibalism and the tradition of living sacrifices, confirming that a small number of the population of Banshee Harbor had turned cultist.
”He returned to the church in a panic and reported back to Bishop Miller, but what he didn’t realize was that the one in front of him was the leader of the cultists, the true Fallen One, who died inside the Lord’s church after his neck was slit instantly by Miller’s wind blade.
”Miller was about to dispose of the body when he was discovered by the servants, and things got out of hand.
”Some of the servants were turned into monsters, and some, led by the priests, took refuge in the earth.
”Seeing that there was no longer any way to cover it up, Miller left the church, summoned the cultists, and proceeded to the altar on the hilltop, where the weather was thus altered, and the ‘vicarious punisher,’ having taken out the three seals, rushed over, and a fierce battle broke out.
”In the process, Miller escaped wounded, and the rest of the cultists held fast to the altar, which was eventually breached.
”Church headquarters has called back and is about to send someone to thoroughly investigate the reason for Bishop Miller’s fall, heh, I told them that it was because Bishop Miller was seriously injured that we were able to join forces to kill him, and by the way, the ‘vicarious punisher’ also told me to get the Blanchers and the DiMerdos to sign a non-disclosure agreement. ”
After roughly explaining what happened, Erland took a long sigh of relief and busied himself with the remaining matters.
Krynn did not dare to relax completely, and remained on deck until the clouds in the sky were like burns, and the sun slowly rose to light up the entire harbor.
He saw the inhabitants of the place going out one by one, basking in the golden sunlight, joking and laughing as they went to their respective jobs.
Banshee Harbor smelled human again.
……
It’s really over …… Klein turned back in slight confusion, ready to catch up on his sleep when the ship sailed, and as for Danez, though he had yawned long ago, he didn’t dare move when he saw that Germaine Sparrow hadn’t moved.
On his way into the cabin, Klein met Aeran, who had also been up all night.
”Good morning, we’re about to leave the harbor and don’t have to worry about anything anymore.” Aerlan smiled and greeted.
As he spoke, the White Onyx’s siren let out a whine.
At the sound, Klein exhaled quietly, deciding to put all his doubts behind him and stop thinking about Banshee Harbor as he nodded in response.
Erland moved his neck and sighed:
”Last night, I had a marvelous feeling that the ancient Binxi and the modern Banshee Harbor overlapped.”
Klein was about to just cross over to the other side when he suddenly grasped a word and asked back with a pensive expression:
”Bincy?”
”Hehe, this is the ancient name of Bansi Harbor, three or four hundred years ago, this place was called Bansi Town, and then because of multiple factors such as pronunciation, it was gradually derived into Bansi.” Ayrland casually introduced.
Hearing this answer, Klein’s eyes contracted for a moment.
He remembered very clearly that the evil spirits within the underground ruins of Bekrand said that if he wanted to find the bloodline descendants of one of the founders of the “Redemption Rose”, the former “King of Angels” Medici and K, he could go to the town of Bensi and try his luck!
Pennsylvania! Klein’s mind seemed to be frozen inch by inch, and coldness radiated from the depths of his bones.
He looked furtively back out at the harbor, and once again the closed doors of the telegraph office and the quiet, watching guests of the Lime Dining Room appeared before his eyes.
