Part 3 The Traveler Chapter 79 “Job Fair”
This is too fast……Is it already circling the planet? ……Or maybe it’s been in the same place all along, but it’s just going too fast for my eyes to keep up……Klein’s mouth twitched, and he decided to wait a few seconds to see if the “Incredible Racer” would show up again. He decided to wait for a few seconds to see if the “Incredible Racer” would show up again.
He wasn’t worried that the summoned spirit creature would endanger innocents, as one of the descriptions was friendly, and as soon as he forced him to end the summoning and abort the ritual, the Imaginative Racer would be sent back to the spirit world, no matter where it ran off to.
After a few seconds, Klein, who hadn’t waited for anything, sucked in his breath and spoke in ancient Hermetic:
”I!
”I end this summoning in my name!”
The morose chill around them instantly disappeared, the swirling ghastly winds subsided, and with it the candle’s flame returned to its normal color.
Klein took a few steps forward and extinguished the candle flame, intending to revise the last sentence of the description and make a second attempt.
As for the “wandering in the delusion of the spirit, friendly creatures can be driven” two sentences, he does not intend to change, the first sentence points to the spirit world, can only do synonymous replacement, change or not change can be, the second sentence is the premise of Klein to ensure their own safety, otherwise just now is not a funny accident, but a horror story.
Well, …… doesn’t use “beyond imagination” to modify “speedster”, but the others may not meet my needs, so maybe… …I can think of another way to do it… messengers don’t have to be fast, they have to be normal… there’s another way to keep them safe… just make sure that malicious people always ignore them… and don’t pay attention to them… …… This time, we’ll try a lesser-existing Spirit World creature… …Klein deliberated for two or three minutes before performing the ritual again.
After doing the preliminaries, he chanted a new incantation:
”Me!
”I invoke in my name:
”Spirits that wander into the void, friendly creatures to be driven, weak beings that are easily ignored.”
The warehouse became unusually quiet for a moment; no wind blew in the wall of spirituality, it did not grow cold, and even the color of the candle flame did not change.
Klein waited patiently, watching, hoping for a good messenger.
Ten or so seconds passed and he sighed, looking around the room:
”Nothing, the description isn’t working this time.”
He waited no longer and followed the process to end the summoning, extinguishing the candle.
What made him slightly puzzled was that the candle’s flame shook several times in the end.
Am I overlooking something …… Klein’s brow furrowed and then stretched, putting it behind him.
He resumed figuring out how to change the description, still addressing the third sentence.
To change the idea again, the messenger is also possible if it is particularly able to take a beating and has superb survival ability, no matter what, the one who can deliver the letter to the target is a good messenger …… Klein pondered for a while, and held up the summoning ceremony for the third time.
In the scent of herbs and essential oils, illuminated by the dim candlelight, shadows floated across his face and his mouth opened and closed:
”I!
”I invoke in my name:
”Spirits that hover in the void, friendly creatures to be driven, transcendent beings of great survival.”
The candle’s flame stretched tentatively, illuminating the inside of the altar bright and crimson.
In Klein’s psychic vision, a single white bone burrowed out of the ground, cascading together into a safe-like creature.
Finally summoned something that can be seen, and it’s the kind that’s extremely survivable …… Much like a safe, ah, it’s very capable of taking a beating at first glance …… Klein breathed a sigh of relief, and spoke in Gohmish:
”Will you be my messenger?”
The box-like white bone creature quickly gave a willing intention.
Then, it wriggled the white bones beneath it and crawled towards Klein, slowly, slowly.
It took ten seconds to crawl one centimeter.
…… This is too slow …… Klein’s smile stiffened on his face.
Although messengers accomplished their mission by traveling through the spirit world, it didn’t mean that they didn’t need speed.
Within the Spirit World, distances and directions were confusing, and the most important thing was to locate and find a position.
As long as accurate, clear, and instantaneous localization was provided, such as the summoning ritual just now, such as the blowing of a brass whistle which was equivalent to a simplified ritual, then no matter where the messenger was located in the spirit world, it could immediately appear within the altar.
And when the positioning is not so instant, and there is only a contractual connection or a previous anchor point, the messenger will need to spend time distinguishing the positioning, traveling the spirit world, and searching for the target, which necessitates a certain amount of speed.
If it comes to deliver the letter, then the recipient may not be able to wait for it in this lifetime …… Klein thought helplessly in his heart as he looked at the safe-like white bone creature that was slowly crawling forward.
He let the smile from earlier resurface on his face:
”After careful thought, I think I still can’t trouble you.
”Thank you for your willingness.”
The creature made of illusory white bones stopped, and compared to a moment ago, it was as if it hadn’t moved.
Klein quickly unsummoned it and rubbed the corner of his forehead.
Momentarily frustrated, he decided to give up on himself and look for a messenger in a less cumbersome way: “open recruitment, interview and selection”!
Taking a breath, Klein calmed his mind and performed the ceremony in earnest.
Looking at the quietly burning candle flame, he took a step back and said:
”I!
”I invoke in my name:
”Spirits that wander into the void, friendly creatures to be driven, unique beings willing to be my messengers.”
Whew!
Within the wall of spirituality, the wind was fierce for a moment, and Klein’s half-height silk bowler hat nearly rose into the air.
The candle flame wavered and swelled to the size of a human head, so pale that it seemed to lose its temperature.
A translucent head slowly drilled out as if breaking through the membrane, with pale blonde smooth hair, scarlet eyes like blood, and a bright atmospheric look.
A little familiar ah …… Klein muttered silently.
That head completely drilled out, but what followed behind was not the neck, but the illusory palm that pinched the end of her hair.
Behind the palm was the intricately patterned but darkly colored cuff.
The summoned spirit creature drilled out faster and faster, and soon appeared in its entirety in Klein’s eyes.
It was indeed a familiar “person”, the same headless woman standing at the top of the castle that Klein had encountered on his way to the underwater ruins of Kavituva.
She was no longer as huge as before, comparable to the castle, she was now just a tall “normal” lady.
Of course, she still only had a cutout in her neck, and was carrying four identical heads in her hands.
”It’s ……” “You ……” “are summoning ……” “me?” The headless woman in the somber, complicated black dress stood quietly, and the four heads that hung down spoke in turn, in the ancient Forsak language.
You can communicate directly with the language …… The level of this spirit world creature is not low ah …… I remember that you have a castle …… There is an industry, why do you still come to “apply for a job “Messenger? Klein first lamented, then spat, then looked out at the candlelight behind the headless woman, and was disappointed to find that no other spirits came out.
He had expected to see a number of spirit creatures willing to become his messengers flocking to him, lining up in rows and waiting to be interviewed, but as it turned out, there was only one respondent.
It should be a problem with the ritual itself, this belongs to the simpler and elementary summoning rituals, it is impossible to summon more than one target at a time …… Klein looked at the headless lady and nodded solemnly:
”Yes.”
Not waiting for the other party to speak, he added two more questions:
”Can you travel the spirit world at a faster speed? How is your ability to survive?”
The head that the headless woman was carrying in her hand answered in turn:
”Yes.” “Also ……” “Not bad.”
As she spoke, she floated upwards and quickly fell back down again, demonstrating.
Whew …… Klein decided not to make any more attempts that he didn’t know what would come of, and asked seriously:
”Are you willing to make a pact and become my messenger?”
The headless woman’s skirt moved slightly, and the four heads with blonde hair and red eyes nodded at the same time:
”Yes.” “One ……” “one ……” “gold coin at a time. ”
Ah? Delivering a letter one gold coin at a time? Azuk-san didn’t say that spirit world creatures would have such a hobby. …… By the way, he mentioned that he tries to be persuasive and communicative when signing a contract, so this is a form of persuasion and communication? Klein was surprised and wanted to immediately unsummon.
Wait, it doesn’t have to be at my expense ah …… Whoever summons the messenger pays …… Hey, maybe there’s an option to pay on arrival after better communication …… In a flash of thought, Klein agreed to the The other party’s request:
”Good.
”Let’s sign the contract.”
He picked up the dark red round-bellied fountain pen and tawny parchment he had prepared long ago, and wrote the contract quickly in the ancient Hermetic script that could pry the forces of nature.
The format and terms of it were all described in detail by Azik in his letter, concise and powerful, containing such things as the messenger not being able to peek at the letters, discarding them, and endangering the life of the indentured person, but of course, if the contents of the indentured person’s letters involved the messenger, they had to be made clear to the other party in advance.
In addition to these contents, Klein also added the clause of one gold coin for each delivery of a letter, and made it clear that it could be borne by the pactee or by the other party of the letter.
To ensure the effectiveness of the contract, the last part was the honorable name of the deity of the domain to which it belonged.
This was a necromantic contract, and normally the honorary name of the god of death must be used, but this god of death had fallen a long time ago and no longer responded to any of it, so Azk mentioned that the description of a high ranking person in the realm of the dead or the Underworld itself could be used instead, it just wouldn’t be as binding.
Klein undoubtedly chose the Underworld, which was close to the big man:
”The home of all death, the hell of the deep spiritual realm, the witness to the final decay of all things, the kingdom of the dead alone.”
After dropping these four descriptions, the ancient Hermetic texts on the tawny parchment flared up one by one in a ghastly green flame, illuminating the surrounding area in a somber and eerie manner.
Getting the text right, Krynn pulled out his Aztec brass whistle and pressed it to the parchment, dropping in his current name:
”Germaine Sparrow.”
This didn’t necessarily need to be a real name, as the breath itself would enter the pact, and the name would only be used for summoning purposes, meaning that “Messenger belonging to Gelman Sparrow alone” could be summoned, but “Pacted Creature of Krynn Moretti” could not.
When Klein finished signing, the parchment floated up and flew in front of the headless woman with the Aztec copper whistle and the dark red pen.
A blonde, red-eyed head carried by the headless woman bit into the round-bellied pen and dropped her name:
”Renette Tynecol.”
Bleak green flames quickly joined together and wrapped around the Aztec copper whistle and the tawny parchment.
After a few seconds, the parchment turned to ash, and the copper whistle fell with little change into Klein’s outstretched palm.
The four heads that the headless woman Renette carried blinked simultaneously, and the figures quickly faded and shrunk back within the pale candle flame.
–After reaching the contract, Klein no longer needed to use the spell to unsummon, and could do it by his own will alone.
Phew, finally a messenger, “A spirit that wanders in the midst of vanity, a friendly creature that can be driven, a messenger that belongs uniquely to Germaine Sparrow.”…… Well, there’s a chance to find an artisan to make an item similar to a brass whistle, so that you don’t have to perform a ceremony every time you summon a messenger! …… Klein cleaned up the mess in a good mood.
Over the next few days, Bayam gradually returned to normal, but Danitz still did not listen to the “blood above the general” pirate group telegrams.
Sunday morning, he flipped through the newspaper, suddenly lowered his voice and said to Klein:
”There’s a gathering of the extraordinary tonight, would you like to attend?”
