Part 4 The Undead Chapter 125 – Emotions
Caron committed suicide? With a suicide note accusing me of forcing him to sell his shares? And his family can prove it? While listening to the statement of the lead officer, Klein digested the corresponding content, generating questions in his mind.
When he figured out exactly what had happened, his first thought was:
Baron Sindras had struck out!
After failing in his quest for cooperation, this great banker did not hesitate to follow up with an attitude of treating the enemy without any reservation!
Moreover, he had obviously gathered enough information to know that Dawn Dantes and the Church of Darkness, with Senator Macht and the forces behind him had created a certain amount of entanglement, and that if he dealt with it directly, it would be easy to attract unnecessary trouble, so he chose to deal with the other side of the deal, Caron, as a breakthrough, which was more indirect and safer, but just as ferocious and venomous.
This completely did not put the lives of ordinary people in the heart ah …… Klein suddenly remembered the Becklander haze event fell one by one innocents, the heart is difficult to contain the emergence of anger, they grunt up, and a cold.
Klein used his “Joker” ability to control his facial expression to make himself look even more stunned, and asked rhetorically as if he hadn’t understood:
”Are you sure you’re not joking?”
The lead officer nodded gravely:
”We wouldn’t bother a gentleman like you at home without enough clues to back it up.
”Mr. Dawn Dantes, please follow us back to the police station to cooperate with the investigation.”
Klein, whose ostensibly calm and unruffled thoughts were spinning frantically, was about to open his mouth in response when he suddenly captured an illogical point:
No matter what, in the current Kingdom of Rune, murder was a felony, and with Baron Sindras’ identity, status and network of contacts, there were at least dozens of proven ways to deal with a wealthy outsider who had just come to Bekrand for two months, and there was absolutely no need to get to this level.
To know, his level of high society, more or less should be able to understand or contact a certain amount of extraordinary power, very clear that there are all sorts of incredible methods in the world can track down the real culprits, if not have complete certainty, risking murder and planting evidence to frame is absolutely the most inferior choice.
If Baron Sindras can use his own power to force down the investigation of the official extraordinary people, then he will definitely be more effective and easier to use other methods!
Even if he doesn’t know for the time being that I’m about to cooperate with the military, he can definitely know about my relationship with the Church of Darkness and with Senator Macht, and won’t act so simply and roughly …… The most important thing is that, since he was able to hire a murderer for the sake of that 3% of shares, why did he do it so long ago? Earlier, he disliked the muzzle of the gun to the door of Caron s head, and the matter had already been solved without ripples …… Klein thoughtfully glanced at the several police officers across the street and did not give an immediate reply.
Next door to this small living room, Hugh and Forsyth leaned against the wall, using the latter’s open “small door” to listen to the conversation without a single omission.
”What’s to be done? If the police must arrest him, should we provide protection?” Voorhees, who lacked enough experience as a bounty hunter, hurriedly lowered her voice to ask her friend.
She didn’t expect a business dispute to turn into a case involving a suspected false accusation of human life, and the expected enemy also changed from a killer who entered the house to assassinate a robber to a police officer, so she didn’t know how to deal with the follow-up for a while.
Hugh was also in a difficult position:
”Normally, bodyguards are only used to deal with illegal aggressors.
”But …… they pay well enough.”
Forsyth listened with surprise and amusement, so he asked rhetorically:
”If he’s really taken to jail, do you want to rob the jail?
”Leaving aside the question of whether it’s dangerous or not, in that case, you’ll also be wanted and won’t be able to work as a bounty hunter anymore, and when that time comes, do you plan to escape somewhere else together with this gentleman?”
As she spoke, she, who had already constructed a story, noticed that Dawn Dantes had stirred.
The elegant gentleman with the graying temples looked sideways at Walter Steward, and said in a smooth, slow voice:
”Two things, first, visit Baron Sindras and tell him that someone is trying to set him up.”
Butler Valter rarely showed a stunned and puzzled expression, having difficulty understanding why his employer would command so.
In his opinion, it was highly likely that this matter was driven by Baron Sindras behind the scenes, and visiting the other party would not serve any purpose and would only result in humiliation.
Klein smiled and said:
”He just came here as a guest and threatened me over those 3% shares, and Mr. Caron followed suit, it’s hard not to suspect him. I thought it necessary to remind him that it’s the gentlemanly thing to do.”
Several of the officers listened with a slight stirring, inexplicably feeling that there might be more to the matter than meets the eye, while the butler, Walter, had something of a dawning realization, and responded at once:
”Yes, sir, I will visit Baron Sindras at once and inform you and his friends of the matter.”
In this way, if the matter is not Baron Sindelas, then the subsequent trouble will be solved by him, if he is really behind the plan, in the name of goodwill reminding him involved, spread the news, can create enough public opinion pressure, so that the “salvation” of Senator Macht and other people become simple.
Smart …… good steward is saving …… Klein secretly praised twice, continued:
”The second thing, ask my lawyer to come over and deal with this little trouble.”
After instructing the butler and valet, Klein then looked across the room at the several officers:
”Alright, I’ll go back to the station with you guys and won’t give you a hard time.
”However, I won’t answer any of your questions until my lawyer arrives.”
The lead officer sighed in relief and nodded his head:
”Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Dantes.”
At that moment, next door to the small parlor, Forsyth hastened to say:
”Want to follow?”
”Yes. I’ll duck under the wagon now and follow to the police station; we can’t guarantee that those policemen are real!” Hugh replied rather cautiously.
She paused and grasped the question:
”Is there anything else you want to say?”
Foerth thought for a second, with serious emotion:
”Aristocrats and rich people are terrible!”
Hugh froze and, without further comment, walked over to the window, pressed his hand against it, and leapt lightly down, landing in the shadows of the building.
A few minutes later, Crane and two of the officers boarded the carriage belonging to Dawn Dantes.
As he sat down, he glanced at the thick carpet, his expression unchanged.
……
Upon arriving at the police station, Klein was taken directly into the interrogation room, but no matter how much the officer in charge questioned him, he did not respond.
Only when his lawyer arrived did he give a statement, saying that he had only met with Caron, that the negotiations for the acquisition of the shares were all handled by a team of professionals, and that he had no specific involvement.
He repeatedly said these elements, and all the rest expressed his ignorance, so that the police officer across the street could not find a breakthrough at all, until he was shouted out.
After a while, the officer in charge of taking statements walked back and said:
”Well, you can leave now, a gentleman of high status has provided you with a guarantee and paid the bail.”
Klein didn’t get up right away and looked up from his chair and asked:
”Who?”
The officer was at once filled with respect:
”Baron Sindras.”
Klein burst into some smiles, got up slowly, led his lawyer out of the interrogation room, and rejoined the butler and valet.
He was at the door of the police station when he met Baron Sindras once more.
The great banker’s hair was still neatly backcombed, silver-white and auburn, and beside him stood the valet and bearded bodyguard.
”Thank you for the reminder, Dantes, few people are as calm and perceptive as you are when it comes to unexpected situations.” Smiling, Sindras took two steps forward, extended his palm, and shook Klein’s hand.
Klein responded with a smile:
”I just trust your character.”
Baron Sindras of course did not believe his polite words, found an excuse, brought his bodyguard, and boarded Dawn Dantes’ carriage.
As for the valet, he was sent to his own luxurious carriage in order to urge the driver to follow.
In the sycamore back-sweep outside the window, Baron Sindras took the initiative to speak:
”Dantes, for what exactly did you make that judgment?”
Klein glanced at the butler and manservant next to him and laughed:
”Two points, first, I think that you, Baron, have a better way and would not do something so rough.”
Baron Sindras took a sip of the white wine from the carriage and laughed:
”Indeed.”
…… Klein’s mouth twitched as he said:
”I’m curious what the solution is.”
He just casually asked this question, not expecting to get an answer, but Baron Sindras smiled and laughed:
”Things have come to this point, it doesn’t matter if I tell you.
”It’s simple, don’t you want to enter high society? I’m going to ask a few girls of different ages to accuse you of playing with their feelings and bodies in different social occasions without being willing to take responsibility, and if necessary, find a few more children to hug your legs and call out for their dads, or ask some commoners to accuse you of seducing their wives and destroying their marriages.
”This is Rune, with its relatively conservative mores, and no one likes to accept such people as friends, and likewise the Church of Darkness, which values marriage and family, will alienate you.
”This kind of thing is difficult to clarify, yet not too big, they won’t use their own power to help you investigate, and when you finally find out the loophole, the inherent image has already spread, how many people do you think will still be willing to believe your explanation? You’re just a first-timer, haven’t built up enough of a reputation to be all that credible.
”Of course, if you’re willing to accept my terms, I’ll vouch for you on my honor.
”That’s the first step, now well, it’s not going to happen.”
Klein almost froze at that, thinking that he was still too young compared to such a big banker who had built a business empire step by step.
”I think I should say thank you.” He responded with a smile without moving on the surface, and turned to say, “The second point, if you must get those 3% shares, with your financial power, I can’t compete with you at all, and it would be better for you to force Mr. Caron at that time than to kill him afterwards.”
Baron Sindras raised his right hand, put his finger against the corner of his forehead, and laughed twice:
”No, you are wrong; I am bound to get the three percent of the shares.
”However, you are also right about one thing, I had indeed prepared an offer for Caron that I couldn’t refuse, however, he suddenly made the decision to finalize the deal with you at an extremely fast speed, making it too late for me to react.”
Klein’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he fell silent with a huff.
……
Back at 160 Birklund Street, Hugh circled around and re-entered the third floor, seeing Forsyth, who had easily “opened the door” and entered.
”Well? Nothing happened, did it?” Forsyth, who had only followed at a distance, asked curiously.
Hugh shook his head slightly woodenly:
”No.”
She whirled around and said with an emotional expression:
”The nobles and rich people are really scary.”
