Part 4 The Undead Chapter 85 The Guests
Being a polite gentleman, Crane certainly wasn’t going to stare at Alan’s wife as he looked at the well-known surgeon and said:
”Good evening, Alan, what shall I call this one?”
Allen’s kind of cold temperament didn’t change much, but it didn’t stop him from smiling politely while handing over the beautifully packaged red wine:
”My wife, Velma Gladys, a high school instructor.”
”Looks like you’re going to be a father again, when is the due date?” Klein asked smoothly as he caught the other man’s gift.
He had originally prepared Dr. Allen for the topic of a few new surgical procedures that had been reported recently, and hadn’t thought that the other man would bring his many-months-pregnant wife along for the ride.
This was a pleasant surprise for him, since the unborn fetus in Mrs. Velma Gladys’ belly was Will Ensettin, the Mercury Serpent.
Alan subconsciously glanced at the lady’s belly, and said with a slight smile:
”Early July, if you don’t mind, I would like to invite you to his birth banquet.”
As soon as his words fell, the gentle and beautiful-looking black-haired lady Velma suddenly covered her stomach and let out a soft cry of pain.
”What’s wrong?” Alan asked offhandedly.
”He kicked me, and now it’s quieted down.” Velma said as her expression stretched.
She whirled around to look at Dawn Dantes and sketched a smile:
”Because of my pregnancy, I haven’t attended a similar ball for too long, always staying at home, my mood is a bit depressing, that’s why I asked Allen to bring me along, although I can’t dance, I can chat with the young ladies and ladies, and even find a gap to play a bit of cards.”
”It’s an honor to have you.” Klein responded sincerely, “I’ll be at his birth feast in early July.”
He wasn’t affected by the little mishap earlier and still remembered Dr. Allen’s invitation.
After a few more pleasantries, Klein handed the gift in his hand to his valet, Richardson, and asked him to lead the two, no, three guests into the hall.
He didn’t have to wait long before he was greeted by a second pair of guests, Bishop Elektra, still dressed in his black clergy robes, and his female companion.
It was a girl with a bit of baby fat still lingering on her face, that is, just in her early twenties, looking at everything new and fresh, seemingly full of vigor, but with a bit more maturity because she had already given birth to a child.
”Good evening, Bishop, I’ve been sleeping very well lately.” Klein said, pretending to be unaware of the dark efforts of the Church of the Dawn of Darkness.
Bishop Elektra immediately nodded four times clockwise on his chest:
”This is the blessing of the Goddess.”
He proceeded to introduce his female companion at his side:
”My wife, Shawna Johnson.”
Since he had met Dawn Dantes often and had been to the other man’s mansion many times, there was no need for an extra gift for this ball, it would have seemed too polite and detached.
”Hello, you are much younger than I thought.” Klein nodded his head to Shauna in a half-complimentary, half-joking manner.
At the same time, he made a silent calculation in his mind:
I heard that the bishop got married two years ago, which means that his wife was only eighteen or nineteen years old at the time… …… That’s a bit of an age difference… …… In a few more years, maybe he’ll have to be introduced to the fat pharmacist… …
Hearing Dawn Dantes’ joke and remembering the conversation during the visit at that time, Bishop Elektra instantly became a bit uncomfortable and coughed lightly, responding in place of his wife:
”She’s a person who likes to be lively, and wouldn’t want to miss any ball if she had the time.”
Klein didn’t say any more as he saw Lady Mary stepping out of the carriage and coming towards the foyer.
After allowing Bishop and Mrs. Elektra to enter the hall, Klein smiled and said to Mary:
”Ma’am, perhaps we can work together next week.”
The team of lawyers and accountants he had hired had completed their investigations, giving the conclusion that there was nothing wrong with Cowiem and that it was a perfect fit for investment, and had reached a preliminary agreement with the gentleman selling the shares, £12,800 for a 3% stake, just waiting for final confirmation next week.
Mary smiled softly at this and said:
”I have now taken you for my companion.”
This seems to be implicit words with deeper meaning …… It won’t be a bit of a look at Dawn Dantes …… Klein’s heart moved slightly, pretended not to understand, and turned to reach out his hand and said:
”Good cooperation.”
After lightly shaking it, he asked his butler Walter to guide this lady inside.
At this time, the guests arrived more and more, Klein recalled the appropriate topics, while warmly and humorously greeted them, received a number of gifts.
If it weren’t for the fact that “Faceless Men” memorize the looks and characteristics of others as an occupational instinct, I wouldn’t be able to tell who’s who, let alone figure out the right topic of conversation. …… It’s no wonder that at times like these, the butlers are often called upon to assist… …In a burst of emotion, Klein saw Senator Macht’s family come through the door.
With a renewed smile, he stepped forward and said:
”Good evening, the stars are exceptionally beautiful today.”
Councillor Macht smiled and handed him a bottle of Black Rand from some unknown estate and said:
”I’ve been in Berkland for almost twenty years, and the number of starry days I’ve seen before doesn’t add up to as many as this year.”
”More and more, I hope.” Klein turned to Mrs. Liana, “I hear you’re looking for a boarding school for Miss Hazel?”
Liana looked at her daughter who stood beside her with a cold expression and only maintained a polite smile and said:
”Schooling is becoming more and more popular nowadays, for women as well, and most importantly, perhaps Hazel will be able to meet more friends, unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to be too happy about it, and can’t afford to part with us.”
In Birkeland, boarding schools for upper-class girls had sprung up, providing an education that might not necessarily match that of the governesses, but creating a social circle.
Such a boarding school would cost around £500 a year in tuition fees alone.
What she can’t afford to part with may be the sewers here …… Crane belabored the matter, and after a little small talk, let Senator Macht’s family enter the hall.
When it was about time, he ceased to equal the foyer and walked to the second floor, standing behind the railing facing the doorway and signaling the invited band to pause.
Holding a glass of champagne, Klein looked around the room and spoke aloud after all the guests had looked over:
”I’m so glad you all could make it to this ball, first of all, thank you Goddess, and secondly, thank you ……
”I have some Dissi specialty music and food for you all, I hope you enjoy it ……”
After a brief speech, Klein descended the stairs to the dance floor within the first floor hall, ready to invite the ladies for the opening dance.
Normally, for the opening dance, the married hosts must be looking for their spouses, and the unmarried men and ladies either dance with their relatives of the opposite sex or invite the object of their desire, which belongs to the alternative matchmaking, but Dawn Dantes neither has relatives here nor a suitable target for the time being, which makes him look a bit awkward in this matter.
However, he had an experienced butler, and Walter had already invited an upper-class socialite over in advance, and an opening dance with her would be a bit scandalous at best, and wouldn’t conjure up the idea of a relationship.
Therefore, without any psychological burden at all, Klein looked at the lady called Aurore and took a step towards her.
This lady is a widow, and has quite a good friendship with several upper class people in Birkeland, and is doing quite well in this circle, of course, she is very unpopular with the women, but anyone who has a bit of status of their own, look down on her.
But no matter what, Aurore is quite good in terms of femininity and her own temperament, especially her body, with a convex front and curved back, charming curves, if not for the fact that her looks can only be considered to be on the upper side of the scale, belonging to the enduring type, Klein would have to wonder if she is a magical girl.
”Ma’am, do I have the honor to ask you to dance?” Klein followed the teachings of his etiquette teacher, Vahana, and displayed his posture without a single flaw.
Olori, whose blonde hair was coiled up, smiled sweetly and extended her palm, saying:
”You are a gentleman that one cannot refuse.”
…… That’s a bit ambiguous …… Her status and the role she plays in social occasions dictate that she can’t be as subtle as the vast majority of young ladies and ladies …… Klein pulled the other party , into the dance floor and danced to the music that had a country mood.
–The aristocrats had land, estates and castles in the countryside, and would live there for several months every year, so country music was one of the mainstays in the social scene of high society.
”You dance very well, if Vahana hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have been able to believe you couldn’t dance before.” Aurore deliberately kept the two of them close enough that their breath could be heard as they danced.
Because the other party was a stranger, Klein was a bit uncomfortable with this distance of contact, but he couldn’t push the lady away as soon as everyone was watching, so he had to smile:
”Just can’t dance like that.
”Actually, I’m very good at those more casual dances in Dixie Bay and the Southern Continent.”
”I like those dances too, powerful, passionate, dancing for myself, not others.” Olori searched for a topic of conversation, twirling her body and appearing very close to Dawn Dantes.
Near the end of the opening dance, she suddenly lowered her voice and laughed:
”If I hadn’t heard some of the rumors, I would have even thought you didn’t like women and felt a little stiff.
”But I don’t doubt the matter now.”
As she spoke, she glanced downwards.
Klein was actually quite embarrassed inside, the other party was really very good at using his body and words to create an ambiguous atmosphere, but Dawn Dantes was an experienced person, and she must not concede on the surface.
He laughed with a natural expression:
”The stiffness comes from not being used to the social scene in Birkeland yet.”
”I can teach you.” Aurori said with a soft laugh.
At that moment, coinciding with the end of the music, she took a step back and winked and smiled:
”You’re really enthusiastic.”
This was a double entendre, causing Klein to almost blush in embarrassment and really begin to wonder if the other party was somewhat related to the magical girl.
He didn’t move on the surface, bending down and bowing, sending Aurore back to her original position, while out of the corner of his eye, he saw Ms. Velma Gladys, who was pregnant with the “Mercury Serpent”, walking towards the side table, aiming for the first batch of ice-cream, as if it was the first batch of ice-cream.
