Part 5 The Red Priestess Chapter 149 True Colors
”You suspect that the fleet of the ‘Lieutenant General of Disease’ is hiding there?” Hearing Daniz’s words, Anderson asked back thoughtfully.
Daniz replied rather excitedly:
”It could be great! Didn’t the ‘Black Death’ disappear after sailing west out of Celos Island?”
Anderson skimmed his mouth and chuckled:
”If the whereabouts of the ‘Lieutenant General of Disease’ were so easy for you to find out, why would she have any need to hide?
”How can an island that even you can inquire about be called secretive enough?”
”Hey! What do you mean?” Daniz felt like he was being taunted.
Anderson spread his hands and said:
”I don’t mean anything, I’m just using my brain to analyze.
”That island should exist, but it’s either of the type that quite a few people here know about, or it’s a deliberate message put out by someone.
”If it’s the former, there’s no way that ‘Disease Lieutenant General’ Tracy’s fleet would be hiding there, and if it’s the latter, that’s kind of interesting, who would release that information?”
Daniz was a bit angry at first, but later gradually followed Anderson’s thoughts down the line as he did his analysis:
”Some pirate or adventurer’s trap? But an island with little resources can’t attract people to explore it.
”The ‘Disease Lieutenant General’ herself? To figure out who’s coming to track her down?”
Anderson chuckled:
”Good, after my teachings, you’ve made considerable progress, otherwise, I doubt that even if you drank the ‘Conspirator’ magic potion, you wouldn’t be able to boost your brain, you’d only mutate the ability to outsmart your enemy by dumbing him down and pulling him into your own familiar territory.
”I didn’t say that, it was Rossel the Great who said it.”
After all this time of gathering, Anderson had already helped Daniz get one of the main ingredients and almost all of the auxiliary materials for the “Conspirator” magic potion, and it was just a matter of the final step to make it work.
”I doubt you have the ability to do that ……,” Danez mumbled in response.
Anderson ignored it and said to himself:
”If the ‘Lt. General of Disease’ himself got someone to release the information, the hidden island must be a trap, maybe nothing but the presence of a mirror monitoring ships and humans approaching the island, or maybe it’s straight out of a major stronghold of the Cult of the Witch that Germaine Sparrow said was there. ”
”So what do we do next?” Daniz asked subconsciously.
Anderson let out a “Hey” at that:
”You couldn’t think of something so simple?
”Whoever you inquired about this news from, we will of course go to whoever we can find out the source of his information, and if we check up so many layers, we will always find something.”
Right …… Danez was about to nod in approval, but the words turned into a “meh”.
It was close to midnight on the second floor of a casino.
The brown-haired Baz yawned and walked into his room.
Before he could light a candle with the moonlight from the window, he suddenly saw a blazing white flame light up in front of him, which made it difficult for him to see for a brief moment.
Baz’s heart tightened and he lunged to the side, rolling on the ground.
He had just rolled twice when his movements came to a screeching halt, as if he had been petrified.
This was due to the piercing coldness and slight tingling that came from his neck, which left him in no doubt that if he had moved any further, blood would have inevitably sprayed onto the roof.
”You guys, what are you trying to do?” By now, Baz’s eyesight had returned, and he saw a blonde man standing beside him with one hand in his pocket and a pitch-black short sword in the other, while a guy in a black cloak with a hood covering most of his face stood guard by the window.
Without answering Baz’s question, Daniz looked over at Anderson in a slightly surprised tone and said:
”Why don’t you make a disguise?”
”How would a disguise let anyone know who to hate?” Anderson responded with a look of disinterest.
”……” Danez exhaled, “Luckily, I haven’t caught this crappy habit from you yet.”
”That’s okay.” Anderson laughed, “Any random person on Celos who asks can tell you who I’ve been hanging out with this whole time.”
”Shit!” Daniz cursed offhandedly.
Baz, who had Anderson’s short sword pressed against his neck, didn’t dare to move, but could only listen quietly, having the feeling that he had returned to Trier and was watching a burlesque show.
What exactly did the two of them come to do …… The intelligence peddler fell into a deep confusion.
At that moment, Anderson withdrew his gaze and looked down at Buzz Road:
”Who told you about that hidden island that is off the main channel and located to the southwest?”
Baz suddenly came to a realization and looked at Danez at the window and said:
”It was you!”
Within the last few days, this information had only been sold to one person!
…… Recognized so quickly? Daniz was at a loss for how to respond for a moment.
Anderson pressed the pitch-black short sword in his hand down slightly, making that tingling sensation even more distinct:
”Please respect the back and forth order.”
Buzz instantly got the feeling that his life was flying by, and hurriedly replied:
”Yes, it’s ‘Lieutenant General Disease’!”
”When and why did she tell you that?” Anderson continued to ask without any surprise at all.
”The night before the ‘Black Death’ left Seros Island.” Buzz replied in a very fast speech, afraid of dying from bleeding to death, “I didn’t ask her why, at that time I was only focused on admiring her beauty, not bad for the ‘Disease Maiden’ that the Five Seas are known for …… ”
Even after a long time, now looking back at it in an extremely dangerous situation, Baz can’t hide his admiration.
”Is this the charm of a witch?” Anderson muttered to himself and turned to ask, “Do you have a way to contact her?”
”No.” Buzz shook his head quickly, “She told me to make a note of all the people who inquired about her whereabouts, and to tell her when she returned to Celos Island, and if anyone who got information about that hidden island actually left the harbor to go there, let them go.”
”That …… makes sense.” Anderson nodded, retrieving the pitch-black short sword and said, “Is it a trap there?”
”I don’t know.” Buzz replied matter-of-factly.
Anderson said nothing, searched Baz’s body and the room for money, then pointed the short sword at the intelligence peddler and said:
”I was going to kill you, but then no one would hate me.
”Live well and curse me a few more times a day.”
He whirled around, walked over to Daniz, and jumped out the window with him, disappearing into the darkness of the night with no streetlights.
Baz touched his neck, which was seeping blood, and stood up rather fearfully, running to the window to make sure that the two men had just disappeared.
”Luckily, I met this kind of guy who seems to have some mental problems, or else I would be dead today ……” He closed the window, unlocked the wooden door, and carefully inspected the room once more before he finally sat down and gulped down a small half of the bottle of Strong Rangie.
Taking advantage of his drink, Baz paralyzed onto the bed and fell asleep that way.
Time passed by, slowly coming to three o’clock in the middle of the night.
Suddenly, Baz rolled over and sat up, his eyes were bright and alert, not even a hint of drunkenness.
He found a dagger and pried open a piece of wooden flooring in the room, picking up a thumb-sized ball of paper from underneath.
When the white paper was unfolded in one layer, in the center was a sticky, pulpy black mass.
Taking a quarter of it, Buzz walked over to the mirror in the room and was about to apply the thing.
Just then, he saw two figures reflected in the mirror, one in a white shirt and black vest, carrying a short sword with one hand in his pocket, and one in a deep cloak that did not reveal his face.
”……” Baz’s pupils had just had a dilation when Danez punched him in the back of the head, and he went straight into a coma.
And the last thing he remembered was a voice saying with a smirk:
”He really didn’t disappoint.”
After dealing with Baz, Danez laughed as he bent down to pick up the pulpy thing that had fallen to the ground:
”This guy actually believed it, believed that you didn’t finish him off because you wanted him to hate you.”
That conversation he had with Anderson earlier was actually a pre-rehearsed drama, in order to make the matter of Anderson sparing Buzz make sense and not be suspected.
”That means you acted well enough.” Anderson chuckled, “Acting in character just isn’t the same.”
”Shit!” Danitz cursed without a care in the world.
He then sighed with emotion:
”I didn’t realize he’d be so patient and wait until midnight to make a move, and we were even more patient.”
”A hunter who wants to catch his prey has to be patient enough, and sometimes it’s fine to wait for days like that.” Anderson responded smoothly.
For both of them, this was actually something that couldn’t be helped, no matter if they were “hunters”, “provocateurs”, “arsonists” or “reapers”, they weren’t very good at it. Whether “Hunter”, “Provocateur”, “Arsonist” or “Reaper”, all of them are not very good at psychic, not to mention the ability to master hypnosis and other abilities, in order to get the information, in addition to torture, threatening and other methods that have no choice but to make efforts in the “conspiracy”.
This sentence is very reasonable, but after that, it will become my words to teach others …… Danez looked at the paste-like black thing in his hand and said:
”It seems to be meant to be smeared onto the surface of the mirror …… and then the ‘Lieutenant General of Disease’ can be contacted?”
”That should be the case, but even if we contact her, what’s the point? Ask her to breakfast on Celos?” Anderson scoffed.
Danez also knew that there was no way that he or Anderson could influence the person on the other side of the mirror, but just instinctively wanted to do a little more, to fulfill the task that Germaine Sparrow had given him a little better.
He frowned slightly and said:
”So what’s next?”
”Of course it’s to contact Germaine Sparrow and leave it to him to handle the follow up, the guy is very mysterious either way, there should be a way to solve it.” Anderson tsked, “Besides, he gave us the task of tracking down the whereabouts of ‘Lieutenant General Disease’, and now we’ve got results.”
Daniz let out a “hmmm” and began to pull out the candles and other items for the ceremony.
”What are you going to do?” Anderson asked with a slightly odd expression.
Without looking back, Daniz set up the altar and said:
”Summoning Gelman Sparrow’s messenger, ah.”
”……” Anderson said after a few seconds of silence, “I’m going out for a smoke first.”
