Part 5 The Red Priests Chapter 75 The Cross
Hearing Forsythe’s question, Hugh hesitated for a moment and said:
”We have been discovered ……”
This sentence, which they had just said similarly earlier, was now repeated to express not the same meaning; before, it referred to the fact that the recognition of Sherman had been discovered by the other side’s secret protectors or monitors, but now the focus was on the fact that one’s own choices and corresponding actions were anticipated or arranged by the one behind the curtain, with no secrets left to speak of.
This meant that the opportunity Hugh longed for might actually present itself, but there was no way of guessing what else lay behind it.
”If we follow the intentions of the One behind the ‘message’, the final outcome will depend entirely on whether or not she holds good intentions, which we have no control over.” Hugh added from a rational perspective.
The reason why she used “she” to represent the one behind the curtain was because she thought of the sweet fragrance she smelled the last time she lost Sherman.
Voorhees listened quietly and nodded approvingly:
”Yes, we are too passive in this whole thing, the best option is to get out of here ……”
As the words left her mouth, she peered into the warehouse and opened her mouth, but added nothing.
She had thought about Sherman’s possible current situation and suspected that “he” was in deep danger, but in the end, she deliberately ignored it and didn’t mention it.
For her, Sherman is just a person who exists in Hugh’s description, similar to a character in a novel, if she has the ability and opportunity to save him, then she is willing to do so, but to take the risk of letting her best friend become reckless and put his life in danger, then she will definitely not consider it.
Hugh nodded his head and said:
”Good, we will leave now.
”However, the ‘message’ one will definitely not be happy to see us do so, and there will definitely be some obstruction.
”Eh, like this, we’ll escape from different directions, so that that person can only choose one side. Whoever manages to break away from this area will immediately create a commotion to lure the official extraordinary person here.”
”Why don’t we just create a commotion here?” Foerth subconsciously questioned.
”It would definitely be blocked or sabotaged!” Hugh gave his reason.
Voorhees nodded thoughtfully:
”Makes sense.
”Well, let’s not delay any longer and get moving.”
Without another word, Hugh tightened his grip on a transparent-to-nearly-invisible three-pronged thorn and, catatonic, leapt out of his hiding place and ran along the shadow-covered area, heading outside the docks.
The three-pronged thorn was a magical item she had commissioned from a “craftsman” through the lady of the Tarot, “The Hidden One”, at a cost of 500 pounds in cash, to be made from the dust and remnants of the spirit of an ancient grudge, and was called “The Cold Blade”. “The Cold Blade.
Anyone who is hit by this weapon, even just touching, will fall into a frozen stiffness, even thoughts are not under their own control, as if possessed by the spirit of grievances, at the same time, once the battle continues, the “cold blade” of the enemy, even if there is no direct contact with the three-pronged thorns, but also gradually appeared to slow down the rotation of the mind, the movement of the dull and stagnant situation. The “Cold Blade of Yin
The negative effect of “Cold Blade” is relatively less terrible, and there is only one, that is, to make the bearer’s body little by little to lose temperature, to the direction of the dead, once exceeded the inevitable time limit, this process will not be reversed.
That was why Hugh had recently become more and more of a runner, or a speedy bicyclist, as a way of producing her own heat to combat the loss of temperature.
But even so, she had only raised the time interval in which she had to let the “Cold Blade” leave her body from 3 hours to 4 hours.
After running out for some distance, Hugh looked back and realized that Voorhees had already left through the wall and disappeared into the place where he was hiding before.
After staring for two seconds, Hugh lightly bit her own lips and violently turned her body, changing her direction.
She actually headed straight for that warehouse!
Soon, she reached the side of her destination, but didn’t rush to the entrance, raising her head to scrutinize the above, as if she wanted to look for another passageway, one that was even more hidden and less noticed by the people inside.
It was at this time that she intuitively turned her head sideways and saw a figure flashing around the corner of the wall.
The figure, dressed in a black dress, with slightly curly brunette hair and long light blue eyes, was none other than Voorhees Wall.
”Haven’t you gone?” Hugh, surprised, did not forget to lower his voice.
Folth skimmed his lips and said:
”Aren’t you running away from here, too?”
Hugh couldn’t find the words to respond for a moment, and it took several seconds before he asked:
”How did you find out?”
”I can’t believe you didn’t even mention anything about Sherman, that’s totally unlike you! I was all ready to persuade you!” Forsyth responded in a rather fast-talking voice.
”……,” Hugh said with a baffled, complicated expression, “you didn’t have to come back.”
Ignoring her words, Folth pressed the wall on the side of the warehouse and said:
”Besides, maybe we won’t have to be embarrassed about this, because it’s over.
”Gee, I can’t believe I didn’t think of such a good idea just now; I should have just opened my mouth and insisted on going with you to the rescue, which you would certainly have discouraged and refused to agree to, and only wanted to act on your own, and by repeating the conversation several times in this way the matter would have ended itself.”
Hugh looked deeply at his friend, and, without further hesitation, lifted the “grim blade,” and stood beside her.
Forsyth instantly flipped through “Lemanor’s Traveling Notes” and added some extraordinary effects to himself and his friend, then put away the book, grabbed Hugh’s arm with one hand, and pressed it back against the wall with the other.
Hugh was waiting to “open the door” and enter when he realized that Forsyth hadn’t activated his powers right away.
The best-selling author took a sharp breath and said quickly:
”Once we’re inside, we’ll hide and observe to make sure we have a real chance before we do anything.
”If there’s really no chance, or if the chance isn’t seized, then let’s hurry up and leave so that we can at least avenge Sherman instead of martyring him!
”Staying alive is the only way to have all kinds of possibilities ……”
Hugh immediately nodded his head and responded seriously:
”Good.”
Forsyth wanted to say more, but considering that he had already been delayed for some time and could not afford any more delays, he had to “open” the illusory door and lead Hugh through the wall to a row of wooden crates.
She, who was no stranger to similar operations, instinctively crouched down, and, drawing out the “Traveler’s Notebook of Lemanor,” turned it to one of the pages.
Hugh, likewise, did not rush recklessly into the depths, but stooping down, brought his eyes to the gap between the crates, and surveyed the empty space:
The feminine Sherman sat without a trace of animation on one of the crates, her brown hair seeming to sway gently as the wind blew.
And standing in front of her was none other than Viscount Stepford, the courtier tightened his collar and looked around the room without knowing what he was looking at:
”It is a pity that you are only a witch.”
”Don’t worry, I’ll let you die without any pain, so that you can be completely purified.”
As he spoke, he took out an item from the inner pocket of his clothing.
Hugh utilized the enhanced vision of the “Inquisitor” magic potion to clearly see the appearance of the item:
It was a brass and green cross with several spikes protruding from it, as if it had once penetrated someone.
It had a style and features that were not found in the countries of the Northern Continent in the Fifth Age, presenting an ancient flavor.
”Very well, you know it’s useless to resist.” Viscount Stepford said as he pressed one of the several fingers holding the copper-green cross onto one of the spikes.
His bright red blood flowed out at once, and it was immediately absorbed by the spikes and seeped into the item.
The mottled copper-green color on the surface of that cross began to disintegrate, peeling away quickly to reveal a solid entity coalesced by the light below.
In just a second or two of work, the item Viscount Stepford was holding turned into a radiant cross!
It radiated a light so pure that there wasn’t a single flaw in it, illuminating the surrounding area unusually brightly.
The shadow of the wooden crate receded rapidly here, and the dark spots caused by the walls evaporated as rapidly as water.
Around Sherman, the countless spider threads that originally belonged to Tris floated up one after another, as if struggling in the fire, and melted away in a few moments.
The light became brighter and brighter, but it didn’t sting the eyes at all, and a black flame and a piece of crystallized ice leapt out from within Sherman’s body.
They successively fade under the light, transparent, until disappeared.
Within the scope of the “cross of light”, there was not the slightest evil presence, not a bit of darkness remaining!
Seeing Sherman’s expression begin to distort, Hugh couldn’t help but glance sideways at Forsyth.
She could clearly feel the horror of the “Cross of Light”, and was shaken on whether or not to save him.
Forsyth also noticed what was happening over there, pointed to “Lemanor’s Travel Notes”, raised his left index finger, and said in a very low voice in Hugh’s ear:
”There is only one chance.
”I’ll try to help you create it, and if it doesn’t work out, or if you can’t grasp it, then we’ll give up.”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Hugh nodded his head solemnly.
Immediately, Voorhees half straightened his body and turned the “Lemanor’s Travel Notes” to a page with a burnt surface.
On this page, covered with a variety of complex, distorted, indescribable symbols and signs, intuitively give people the feeling of howling winds.
”Sailor” pathway demigod ability, “tornado”!
After looking around again to make sure there were no other enemies, Voorhees’ sight crossed the gap between the wooden crates and locked onto Viscount Stepford, his fingers lightly sliding over the charred page.
The sound of a whimper suddenly exploded, and a hurricane visible to the naked eye rose up from under Viscount Stepford’s feet and rushed toward mid-air.
That palace chief of guards suddenly encountered such a terrifying attack, and was unable to maintain his balance, and was directly taken up by the tornado, ruthlessly crashing onto the top of the warehouse.
Rumble!
The top of the warehouse was torn apart by the hurricane, partially collapsing downwards, partially swirling in the wind, getting higher and higher.
Viscount Stratford was almost knocked unconscious, no longer able to hold the “cross of glory”, let it fly out of his palm.
The spikes broke away from his counterpart’s fingers with a splash of blood, and the mottled copper-green color reappeared on the surface of the cross.
The light without a single blemish disappeared with it.
Seeing this situation, Hugh rushed out of his hiding place without hesitation, and the figure of Viscount Stepford was first reflected in his eyes, and then two piercing “lightning bolts” were lit up.
”Spirit Piercing”!
