Volume 7 The Inverted Man Chapter 9 Witnessing
As an Extraordinary who joined the General Directorate of External Security of Intis as a member of the Secret Order, it was not the first time that Antoine had encountered something similar.
In certain scenarios in the past, during each promotion, he would hear the murmurings of “Hornachis …… Fregla …… Hornachis …… Fregla ……” ravings, and several times nearly lost control of himself because of it.
But unlike before, the content of the murmurs seemed to have changed.
When the ravings subsided and what he saw in front of him returned to normal, Antoine frowned slightly and muttered silently to himself:
”My mental state has been stable lately, and I haven’t taken any magical pills and attempted to advance, so how could I hear the whispering of a hidden existence?”
”There seems to be a certain difference between this and the previous ones ……”
”What does Orville stand for? I lack enough information to decipher it at all ……”
”Dilan, Dilan, well, the higher-ups in the guild mentioned that our mysterious and fearsome leader once hid an ancient fortress called Dilan ……”
”Hiss, I can’t help but shudder when I think back to that being, although K has returned to normal in the last two years, all those horrible legends and substantial damages left behind by K before are enough to make one have nightmares for a lifetime ……”
Antoine calmed his spirit and suppressed his doubts for the time being as he continued to organize tasks for his subordinates.
……
In front of a tombstone, Klein, who had just put down his bouquet of clean white flowers, slightly tilted his head as if listening to something.
Although he didn’t hear anything, as the King of Angels who had already held part of the authority of this pathway, he was still able to keenly perceive that something abnormal was happening, and that some hidden messages were being transmitted to specific objects.
”Charatu isn’t dead through and through?” Klein withdrew his gaze and whispered to himself.
He had relied on his hierarchy, position and authority to forcibly prevent Chalatu’s resurrection at that time and had not noticed any abnormalities, but when he examined himself afterwards, he realized that there was a slight problem:
What he had absorbed from the Chalatu essence was a complete copy of Sequence 9 to Sequence 1 Extraordinary Characteristics.
In other words, it contained only one “Miracle Worker” extraordinary characteristic.
Will Ensettin, the Serpent of Destiny, said that Chalathu, like the ancestor of the Antigonus family, possessed an extra copy of the Miracle Worker trait.
Therefore, the reality showed without a doubt that one of the “Miracle Worker” extraordinary traits had disappeared from Charatu’s body, and as to whether he was missing the extra extraordinary traits of “Ancient Scholar”, “Trickster”, and so on, I don’t know. As for whether there were any extra extraordinary traits missing such as “Ancient Scholar” and “Trickster”, Klein had no way of guessing because he didn’t know enough about Charatu.
Based on this aspect, Klein had long suspected that Charatu was not dead.
Of course, for the other party to be resurrected, it certainly wouldn’t be that simple, because a way that was too simple would inevitably lead to not being stealthy enough, and would definitely be discovered by the Higher Powers of this Pathway, thus making an effective stop.
–When Charatru was able to separate the extraordinary characteristics of Sequence 2, he was undoubtedly already a “Secret Servant” of Sequence 1, and there weren’t many enemies that he had to face that could restrain him, and each one of them had to be dealt with with the utmost caution.
Therefore, Klein believes that K should have utilized the extraordinary characteristics of the cut off part to do something, but not directly use it to resurrect, but to turn around and make multiple arrangements, needing an opportunity or some medium to make preparations to play a role.
”It seems that k has hidden that part of the extraordinary characteristic that contains the ‘miracle worker’ in a specific way somewhere and made multiple coverings, otherwise when I was promoted to ‘Secret Servant’, I would have been able to make use of the ‘Source Fortress’ to see it directly ……”
”Well, after that, it should be to guide a specific object to resurrect k in a reserved covert way, heh, k and did not accommodate the uniqueness, can not do ‘all-channel broadcasting’, moreover, also have to be careful to prevent the promoted me or Amon to hear the corresponding content and make certain damage, so, k can guide the Therefore, the target group that K can guide is quite limited …… to all members of the Secret Society, or some of the members?” Klein, who was crouching falsely on one knee, nodded thoughtfully.
He whirled around and exhaled, grumbling unabashedly:
”How is it so hard to completely kill a High Sequencer of the ‘Diviner’ pathway?”
There were always all sorts of preparations, all sorts of undercurrents.
It made him truly understand why the Goddess hadn’t just killed the ancestor of the Antigonus family:
For half of the Fools, death might mean new life!
”But, well, elaborate hidden arrangements often mean less ability to take risks, and maybe Charatu’s resurrection arrangement will be cheaper for some lucky member of the Order of Mithraeum than even K’s miraculous return from the mists of history, and there is the probability of being interfered with, influenced, and exploited by a foreign god … … “Klein snorted inwardly and slowly stood up.
For the time being, he didn’t have the idea of searching for the extraordinary characteristics of the “Miracle Worker”, because under the enormous pressure brought about by Amon’s “mistake”, he had to seize the time to strengthen his humanity, stabilize his mental state, and head to the depths of the spiritual city of Calderon to retrieve the “River of Eternal Darkness”, which was the most important part of the “Miracle Worker”. He had to enhance his humanity, stabilize his mental state, and travel to the depths of the spiritual city of Calderon to get the water of the “River of Eternal Darkness” in order to accommodate the uniqueness of the “Fool”, so he didn’t have the time to waste on irrelevant matters.
When he succeeded in elevating himself and regaining the balance of the situation, he would not mind traveling to Intis, starting with the members of the Cistercian Order, to find out the hidden “treasure trove” of Charatu, and to let the angel who survived the Fourth Age rest in peace.
After collecting his thoughts and gazing down at the tombstone in front of him for a while, Klein took a slow step back, inserted his hand into his coat pocket, and walked sideways into the spirit world.
During this period of time, he was like a traveler in the occult sense of the word, sometimes returning to where he had been, and at other times, under the guidance of destiny, randomly and haphazardly traveling through the spirit world, going to different realities and witnessing different scenarios.
As a result, the part of his own self-knowledge and self-awareness was gradually restored and strengthened little by little, and he was now able to better cooperate with the anchor and suppress the revived will of the “Heavenly Father” to a certain extent.
This made the stability of his mental state much stronger than when he met the “Goddess of the Night”.
In the spirit world, which was made up of richly layered color blocks, as if it was an abstract painting, Klein took a few steps aimlessly, without distinguishing between up and down, left and right, forward and backward.
Then, following the guidance of fate and spirituality, he left this place and returned to the real world.
The first thing that appeared in front of him was a small square and a church belonging to the “Goddess of the Night”.
At this moment, many people were entering the church, looking happy.
Back in Birkeland? Kraven looked up at the sun piercing through the thin clouds and followed the crowd towards the church doors.
Just as he passed through the entrance, his gaze suddenly froze for a moment.
He saw Benson.
Benson Moretti.
The dark-haired, brown-pupiled man with a face that resembled Crane’s in a few ways, only rather a bit older, had his hair neatly combed back, revealing a broad forehead.
He stood next to the altar, dressed in a stiff tuxedo and rather nervous.
Klein stared for a couple of seconds, quickly withdrawing his eyes and looking to the side.
Then, his eyes swept over the front row and saw Melissa in a long, beige conservative dress.
Compared to before, this young girl no longer had a childish look on her face, but she had some more flesh and didn’t look so slim anymore.
She was constantly talking to the people around her, skillfully handling all kinds of affairs and human interactions.
”Still dressed in such an old-fashioned way, it’s a good thing I didn’t get a black set to ……” Klein muttered with the corners of his mouth slightly hooked, walked to a corner of the church, and found a seat to sit down.
After ten minutes or so, Melissa ended her busyness and took her seat.
Joyful and upbeat music followed, gradually becoming somewhat sacred.
A lady in a holy wedding dress, holding her father in one hand and her mother in the other, came in through the doorway and walked step by step down the aisle toward the altar.
Benson, near the altar, swallowed vaguely and had trouble containing a smile.
This was his wedding.
Crane in the corner saw the scene, leaned back a little, buried his head slightly lower, and grunted:
”Smiling like a curly haired baboon ……”
The bride, after being escorted to the front of the altar by her parents, owed a bow to Benson before turning toward the holy emblem and the priest.
Benson returned the bow and turned afterward.
When the bride’s parents were seated, the priest spoke:
”Under the watchful eye of the Goddess of Mercy, I will witness a holy matrimony.”
”Praise the Goddess.” The guests, as long as they were followers of the “Goddess of the Night”, all raised their right hands at the same time and tapped four times clockwise on their chests, drawing stars.
This includes Klein.
When the congregation calmed down, the priest turned his head sideways to the bride:
”Ms. Ruth Brooke, do you take this man beside you to be your husband in marriage? Do you take this man to be your husband, and do you desire to love him, honor him, be with him, and care for him, in sickness and in health, for the long life that follows, in poverty, and in riches, and in sickness and in health, to the end of your days?”
The lady called Ruth looked at the emblem of the “Goddess of the Night” and nodded solemnly:
”I do.”
The smile on Benson’s face spilled over again.
The priest turned to him and said:
”Mr. Benson Moretti, do you take this lady beside you to be your wife and enter into a marriage contract with you? Are you willing to love, honor, accompany, and care for her for the long life that follows, in poverty, in wealth, in sickness, in health, until the end of your life?”
Benson nodded at once:
”I do!”
Seeing this and hearing these words, Melissa’s vision blurred for a moment, her heart aching and happy:
After all the things that had happened, the family had finally welcomed a new member.
Suddenly, she subconsciously twisted her head and looked into the corner, seeing a seat empty and unoccupied.
Melissa then pursed her lips and shook her head slightly.
Her gaze swept back and forth over that area for several seconds before slowly retracting and looking back up to the altar.
It wasn’t until the priest announced that the marriage contract had been concluded and that Benson and Ruth were officially husband and wife that a smile reappeared on Melissa’s face.
……
In East Chester County, inside the Hall family’s manor, Klein’s figure stepped out of the void.
He had regained some of his mental stability enough to seek treatment from a psychiatrist, and in the meantime, he had a problem to solve.
