Chapter 140: Tangled
At around ten o’clock the next day, Sakai Rie, carrying a formal invitation letter in her pocket, stepped into the administrative office building and walked up the stairs to the third floor. She turned left and headed towards the innermost office.
As soon as Rie Sakai appeared at the door, before she had a chance to knock, Prof. Suzuki greeted her warmly, “Come on in.”
Even though Rie Sakai had gone through another night, in her heart, she was still uncomfortable with this practice. Even if she tried to convince herself of it over and over again, it was still too much for the puritanical side of her personality to accept.
She also knew in her heart that if she wanted to remain true to her innocence, her apprenticeship with the Western flutist of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra would have to be completely canceled.
Rie Sakai had originally thought that convincing Masayoshi Kishimoto would be particularly difficult, but she hadn’t expected it to go particularly smoothly. If he didn’t agree, he would have found himself a way out of the situation.
However, not only did Masayoshi Kishimoto agree to what he said, but she felt the support from him for herself.
Sakai Rie appeared in Prof. Suzuki’s office with a tangle of emotions. The other party still looked quite enthusiastic as she asked herself to sit down and offered to pour herself a drink of water.
“How’s that going?” Professor Suzuki did not sit back down and directly sat on top of a chair next to her, asking with concern.
Sakai Rie, after a last bit of slight hesitation, still took out the invitation, but forgot to present it with both hands as a sign of respect.
Professor Suzuki didn’t value that set of formalities, but was particularly concerned with tangible benefits. He took the initiative to reach out and took it in his hand, and opened it in person.
After reading it, Prof. Suzuki’s heart was overjoyed and he said, “President Kishimoto is really too kind. I should be the one to treat him, so how can I let him break the bank?”
Sakai Rie was completely ignorant of what it meant to perform and entertain. She just looked slightly dazedly at this Professor Suzuki, who was a completely different person on weekdays and now.
“At seven o’clock on Saturday night, I’ll be at the Kiraku Cuisine Pavilion with my wife.” Professor Suzuki knew that the place where Masayoshi Kishimoto had invited the couple was a famous high-class Japanese restaurant in the Taito District.
This showed that the other party still took himself seriously. To be precise, his fianc茅e still had a place in his heart as someone who could speak her mind.
Sakai Rie mechanically answered the word “good”, and then took the initiative to stand up to take her leave, but appeared to be a bit speechless as she said, “It’s fine.”
“Sakai, why do I see you in a trance? Are you sick?” Professor Suzuki sensed something was wrong with her from the moment she entered the room and said.
“No, no. Just insomnia last night.” Rie Sakai was still struggling with the question about morality or immorality on top of this whole night. She had only told half the truth, but not the other half of why she had lost sleep, she said.
“So that’s how it is! Come, I’ll walk you out.” Professor Suzuki released a little doubt in his heart. His face once again showed a smile for people and said.
Sakai Rie was not only escorted out of the office, but was also sent all the way to the stairway. She didn’t say the word “stay” and left in a trance.
Rie Sakai was not happy at all. She walked aimlessly along the boulevard and didn’t even hear Watanabe Saki calling her three times.
Watanabe Saiki walked up to her and grabbed her right arm, staring at her with both eyes, “Rie, what’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing. No, Saiki, I’ll tell you something. Well, let’s just go over to that side and talk. It’s not convenient here with all the people coming and going.” Sakai Rie was too in need of someone to talk to about her inner melancholy.
Watanabe Saki was mysteriously dragged by her to a secluded corner. She had no idea what was going to happen.
Rie Sakai stopped and looked not only to her left and right, but also back behind her. Realizing that there was no third person in the vicinity, she said in a small voice, “Do you think I should accept that opportunity to apprentice as a Western flutist in the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, or not?”
“Rie, you’re being silly! Do you even need to ask me that? Of course you should accept it. That kind of opportunity doesn’t come to everyone.” Watanabe Saki blurted out.
“But, before that, there’s one condition.” Rie Sakai was too embarrassed to say it explicitly.
“It wouldn’t be for you to sleep with some professor in exchange, would it?” Watanabe Saki knew that this kind of recommendation opportunity was in the hands of some professors at the school.
She had also heard that some female undergraduates of this school were doing everything they could to get this kind of opportunity. Among them, there was no lack of people who took the initiative to throw themselves to sleep with them.
“What are you talking about? There’s absolutely no such thing. Professor Suzuki just asked me to make an appointment with Masayoshi Kishimoto.” Sakai Rie blurted out the party path when she got excited.
Watanabe Saeki raised her right hand and scratched the side of her hair, puzzled, “It’s not like she asked you to sleep with her, she just asked you to ask out Kishimoto Masayoshi, so what are you agonizing about?”
“Nowadays, the nuisance’s company seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Otherwise, Professor Suzuki wouldn’t have known about his existence. It’s definitely not innocent here, there must be a deal.” Sakai Rie said slowly.
“Oops …… I was under the mistaken impression that you were agonizing over whether or not you were sleeping with a companion? Yet it made me think that it was this kind of normal that can’t be normal anymore.
Poverty limits my imagination. I’d like to think that Prof. Suzuki and I have a deal like yours. But others don’t see me yet.” Watanabe Saki shook his head and said.
“I come to you for a heart-to-heart, and you mock me.” Sakai Rie said with a warm angry look on her face.
“Onii-sama, where did I mean to mock you? Do you really not understand, or are you faking it? In today’s society, where would there be people who would do you a favor for no reason?
Even your own parents will help you because you are their biological daughter. Otherwise, why would they help you?
Not to mention that there’s no telling how many people are drooling and secretly eyeing a rare opportunity like this one to apprentice at the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.” Watanabe Saki spoke eloquently.
“Reasoning, I understand it all. It’s just that it’s just hard on the heart.” Sakai Rie said as she tapped her chest twice.
“It’s not hard for me. If you really don’t want to, you can let me have this opportunity! It’s just that I’ll need Brother Justice to step in and help me out.
I believe that if you ask, he won’t refuse your request. Aren’t we bosom friends? Besides, we are not only classmates and friends from the same place, but our families are also close neighbors. Our parents are also on good terms with each other.” Watanabe Saki laid out the facts and reasoned.
