Chapter 1692: There Are No Allies
Walking through the checkpoints, Alan Wilson stopped on the East Berlin side of the Berlin Wall and turned to the diplomat at the embassy and marveled, “A very good system of border control.”
“Secretary-General, this is hard evidence of the GDR’s restrictions on freedom.” One of the diplomats, apparently still following his earlier thinking, took the opportunity to angrily denounce the GDR.
“I repeat, this is a mere border control system.” Alan Wilson turned back expansively and said coldly, “There is no such thing as freedom or meaning. That’s how any country’s borders are managed, got it? Diplomats nowadays are really, this kind of talk is fine to deceive others, how stupid is it to deceive yourself, do you want to learn from the Soviets?”
Hearing the words of the head of the civil service, a group of diplomats no longer dared to make dissenting statements and directly asked their top boss to get into the car and head to the British Embassy in Berlin.
Inside the British Embassy, the ambassador to the GDR was reporting to Alan Wilson, “We have communicated with the Unified Socialist Party side, and they are very interested. Secretary General, you have sneaked into the GDR this time, is it possible that your country has concluded that the GDR will not last?”
“Oh, my Ambassador, on the contrary, we warmly hope that the GDR will always hold out.”
Alan Wilson looked the ambassador straight in the eye, “Otherwise the GDR would have diversified and we would have had to find a reason to prevent the Germans from unifying, do you want to see the country that twice started world wars and caused the Sunset Empire to become history unify again? I don’t think as an Englishman you want to. There is also the fact that, of course, I have to meet the leaders of the Unified Socialist Party, but there is one person I have to meet, the head of the Stasi, Grand Admiral Markus Wolff.”
Alan Wilson hadn’t heard of any big spy outbreaks in the FRG in this world, but the memories in his head were there, which proved one thing, that the FRG disease hadn’t found any GDR spies lurking within the government, as if he had once dealt with the tails of Bogina and Anna, who just weren’t suspected anyway.
Then Markus Wolf, who was the head of the Stasi, must have known at this point that there was an attempt to try to push for reunification on the FRG side under Chancellor Kohl while the Soviet Union was wrestling with itself.
It has been said that the number one power in Soviet bloc intelligence was actually the Stasi, not the KGB, and that the difference between the Stasi and the KGB was that the size was so far off.
Compared to the KGB’s massive size, the Stasi had done the best it could within its own boundaries, even in terms of domestic informants, the KGB had more than half a million informants at its service, and the Stasi had 90,000 informants in constant contact to report on every move in their own country, and in considering the proportional conversion of the populations of the Soviet Union and the GDR, it would be more appropriate for the KGB’s informants to multiply that by two.
To meet the head of the Stasi? The ambassador to Germany was stunned, but immediately assured, “I’ll do my best to arrange it, Secretary General. It’s just a matter of whether the other side will agree, and we don’t have much information about him.”
“Let’s just say that there’s going to be a discussion about the future of Germany.” Alan Wilson muttered to himself, “We love Germany so much that we would like to see two Germanys.”
Regarding the original intention of this face-to-face meeting, although he had not yet met with the other party, Allen Wilson already had two different levels of thoughts, although a little subjective, but it was also considered to put himself in the other party’s shoes, Supreme Authority was an atypical Englishman, when he was helping that was all really helping, not playing all that lip service stuff.
In his opinion, the GDR actually had a very healthy debt ratio, and if it really wasn’t possible to go the free world route, it was certainly best not to.
He had another idea, and that was to refer to the privatization movement in the UK, and put important industries that were a matter of national security into reliable hands, and as for who was reliable, the GDR wasn’t anyway, except for the Dragoon Sisters.
The initiative was in the hands of the GDR, and security would allow the other side to make a choice, if they chose to hold out, British investment and intimacy would come, if they chose two it would be even easier, the GDR would have a group of people’s billionaires before reunification, making sure that the GDR’s industries that it could afford to hold out, were under British holdings.
Nurturing the army, the past glory of the British Empire felt the Cabinet Secretary, at the same time, Wolff and Erich Honecker are also discussing with their own cronies, Britain’s Cabinet Secretary, a sudden visit to the end of what is the purpose of the visit.
The request to talk to the head of the Stasi was immediately met with positive feedback from the Socialist Unity Party.
Alan Wilson remembered that Wolfe had the appellation of the Hidden Face Man, but to be honest, it was very much like Sir Humphrey in the TV series, the two of them stared at each other for a moment, Wolfe took the initiative to open his mouth and said, “Honorable Sir, please forgive me for my abruptness, I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“If you don’t say that the world is changing just as fast.” Alan Wilson smiled slightly and said, “How is it that the British can’t show up in the capital of the GDR, we all know that the GDR is an independent country recognized by the United Nations, that’s a fact that no one can change, and we’re also against unilateral changes that don’t take into account the bigger picture. Of course I don’t mean specific individuals, and I especially don’t mean Chancellor Kohl, so here I am today.”
“Oh ho.” Wolff nodded his head in understanding and opened his mouth to reply, “It seems that Sir’s words, expressing an extremely pragmatic attitude, are an eye-opener.”
“Of course, when it comes to the issue of the two Germanys, my attitude might not even be considered the most pragmatic, and even more pragmatic might be Mitterrand.”
Alan Wilson grinned, “You see, the truth is that friends and enemies are not fixed, today’s friend could be tomorrow’s enemy, and the reverse holds true as well. I must emphatically state that I have always had a heartfelt respect for the GDR as well as the Unified Socialist Party, and I hope that the future of the GDR develops smoothly, and that the Unified Socialist Party, which has been through all the trials, will continue to be in power.”
“Sir is serious?” The words came to this point, Wolfe was indeed surprised, and then the conversation turned, “Is it true that Sir has received definite information.”
“Not at all, just a well known news, talk about secret.” Alan Wilson played dumb, “Britain is still OK in the field of intelligence, which the Germans know best.”
“I see that the First Secretary will be looking forward to meeting Sir.” Wolfe cut in, “I can only guarantee that no one will know that Your Excellency has been in Berlin.”
“That would be best.” Alan Wilson heartily expressed his respect, “Mr. Marcus, it’s been a comforting conversation with you, and I think that you and I, the GDR and Great Britain, can become very close.”
Allen Wilson was looking forward to meeting Erich Honecker, just because Maphead was stupid didn’t mean that the leaders of Eastern Europe were stupid, in fact there had been a large number of changes of leadership in Eastern Europe during the current year, even the United States, which had considerable experience in this area, couldn’t do it.
Without the Soviet nod, there would not have been so many leaders in the middle of another year who could not stand up to their party opponents.
He believed that Erich Honecker knew what he would face as the leader of the GDR after the reunification of Germany, perhaps the physical elimination was too blatant, but now in the modern world, it would not be difficult to force him to death.
After the events of August 19th. Russian President Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin stopped protecting his former ally, so Erich Honecker went into exile in the Chilean Embassy when the GDR took in a large number of Chilean political exiles after the fall of Salvador Allende Gossens, a good karma that prevented him from being liquidated immediately.
But in this world Allende had not been overthrown, this good karma did not exist, and Alan Wilson opened his mind and thought about it, and it seemed unlikely that any country other than General King’s would take him in, and Erich Honecker’s situation in a unified Germany would only be made more difficult.
Erich Honecker is still the leader of the GDR, as long as he is still the leader now on the status is unquestionable, Allen Wilson also expressed respect for Erich Honecker after the meeting, at the same time explaining his intention, “Kohl’s political ambitions, the whole of Europe is a source of trouble, and the first to bear the brunt of the GDR. ”
“Honorable Sir, it seems that the GDR and Britain are allies, and were jointly present in Brussels a few days ago.” Erich Honecker asked calmly in return, “So I am a little puzzled as to how you can think of allies when you have come to Berlin this time.”
“There are no allies in such a great question of right and wrong.” Alan Wilson replied flatly, “Whether it’s Britain or France, we believe that the status quo is in Europe’s best interest. I cannot stand by and watch as the Germans irresponsibly and wishfully believe that only one Germany is better. Realize that citizens are nothing more than a collection of stupid people, why is Viva Civica all bullshit, and? Especially for you, First Secretary, you’re the one who led the construction of the Berlin Wall, and if the Bonn government liquidates you then, and you lose the power you have now, who can protect you?”
“Even if you are so great that you don’t care about your personal honor and disgrace, what about the hundreds of thousands of members of the Unified Socialist Party? What about the nearly two hundred thousand officers and soldiers of the People’s Army? What about the 100,000 informants in the Stasi? I think the vast majority of these people will face unseen but real discrimination in the future once unification takes place. Don’t you think of them?”
Allen Wilsonning is not being alarmist, but is being purely honest about why episodes of the latter-day GDR persisted in eastern Germany. None other than that, these things happened.
“I wonder how much foreign exchange reserves Germany has now.” Alan Wilson remembered that after the reunification of Germany, Bonn claimed that the GDR had zero money on the books, which is outrageous, the collapse of the Soviet Union Russia still has three hundred tons of gold reserves, the GDR did not even have a dollar, this is not bullshit?
