Chapter 624 – The Soviets Want It All
In order to maintain his personal relationship with McCarthy, Allen Wilson had to start with alcohol.
But the consequences of this is also inevitable, as the two years of the Republican Party’s double flower red stick, McCarthy in the role of alcohol in the more and more mouth without a word, three words do not leave the current U.S. President Harry S. Truman.
As for the current war on the peninsula, McCarthy believes that the current bad situation originated in the Truman government in the aid of standing public above the weakness of the then painfully take aid, the situation in the Far East will not evolve into today.
Holding a glass of wine Allen Wilson stared straight at McCarthy, spoke with reservations, “Joseph, we can not judge the consequences of a thing after it appears.”
The incumbent party was talking tough, and Allen Wilson was not expecting McCarthy to regret such a challenging job? That was a crazy move.
Truman had already appropriated twenty billion dollars for military spending to fight the Korean War, and switching to aid the countries under the Changgong’s command?
Aid programs focused on large-scale material assistance and limited material assistance two, but according to estimates, to carry out large-scale material assistance, in the military, in order to preserve the current front, must be at least for the nationalist army equipment and training thirty divisions, air force aircraft up to two thousand, and to counter-offensive, but also to double the size.
Economically, two billion dollars would have to be invested first to stabilize the currency, and at least another hundred million dollars in economic aid would have to be invested every month thereafter. It may not seem like as much as the twenty billion dollars that Truman is now appropriating, but the two are also used for different purposes.
While the aid in 1948 may not seem as much as Truman’s war appropriation for the Korean War. But Truman’s war appropriation was based on the premise that hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops were fighting on the front lines.
And the original plan to aid the gun party was counting on the gun party to defend itself against U.S. troops.
And at the time of the Truman and Dewey campaigns, the situation had gotten to the point where economic aid couldn’t turn the situation around, and it was impossible to save the Chang Gong’s life without the U.S. Army going in. If the U.S. military had been deployed, McCarthy would have realized that the $20 billion Truman was now appropriating for the Korean War was just chump change.
Stopping support for the Cannon Party was a stop-gap, and President Truman was absolutely brilliant in this case. If the aid had continued, it wouldn’t even have been enough to be hobbled by a gold reform by Changgong’s brother-in-law who is the Secretary of the Treasury.
Since we can’t get the U.S. military involved, the aid is ineffective. But if the U.S. military intervention? The USSR would probably laugh their asses off, not to mention watching the US get stuck in a king-sized quagmire that would pour in all the US accumulation from the World Wars. That’s not something the Greek Civil War or the current Korean War can do.
“Joseph, the European direction is still more important than any other. You should agree with that!” Alan Wilson looked at McCarthy and spoke, “Far from it, the pro-Soviet Democratic Army in Greece, still exists in the north of Greece, and the United States has invested quite a lot for this, right? Especially on the borders near Yugoslavia and Albania, leaving the Greek government at a loss. If that’s not possible, the U.S. should consider the British proposal at the U.N. to immediately reinstate the previous military demarcation line, disengage with the Chinese, and focus on the Greek peninsula and Germany.”
“Alan, you don’t understand that the war on the peninsula today is the price of Truman’s bad decisions in the first place.” McCarthy did not change his mind, McCarthyism was his persona, how could he forget it.
“I’m also just saying that we can’t go back in time.” Allen Wilson figured out that McCarthy was settling down with McCarthyism, and without slamming Truman there would be no position in the Republican Party today, and no more words.
Mentioned the importance of Europe through personal relationships, is that the Greek civil war has continued to this day. Allen Wilson had to be a little worried, when it was felt that the Soviet Union was hit hard, in order to pull out the operating space for the United Kingdom, the art of boldly let Mihajlovic a horse.
To the present day but there is a butterfly effect, Yugoslavia is the most important supporter of Greece, because of so a thing, Tito took an amicable attitude towards Moscow, in Moscow’s tacit approval, has been supporting the Greek Communist Party. So much so that the Korean War broke out and the Greek Civil War still hasn’t ended.
Although the U.S.-backed Turkish and Greek armies dominate, blocking the Democratic Army in the northern mountains, but ultimately Greece is still in a civil war, the reason why the situation in Greece is controllable, entirely because of the small population of only a few million, the United States has the ability to suppress the war in the low-intensity above the tens of thousands of guerrillas on the scale of the Democratic Army has ceilings.
Really began to enter the rhythm of the Cold War, Allen Wilson realized, as if the free world side is indeed lagging behind.
The Kremlin in Moscow, the office of Stalin himself, had begun to discuss Europe in one of the rare occasions in the last year. The move by the United States, Britain and France to create a coalition government drew the Kremlin’s attention back to the Far East.
“Britain and France do not consider themselves capable of confronting the Soviet Union, and we can tell that London and Paris do not want to do so. But yet they had to succumb to the American idea and have agreed to the establishment of a coalition government.”
Malinkov, Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, spoke up to express his opinion, “We tried to stop it, but to this day it can be assumed that Britain and France have compromised with the position of the United States in Europe, and have had to fall under the wing of the United States in order to fight the Soviets.”
“So Comrade Malinkov, what are your thoughts on the current situation?” Stalin asked with a nod.
“A way must be found to get rid of the Triple Garrison in West Berlin, because the division of Germany has become a foregone conclusion. All the attempts we have made have failed to prevent the illegal merger of the three countries, and we can only take a step back to protect the institutions of the Soviet-occupied zone.” Malinkov was adamant, “Now that the United States is fighting in the Far East, it is possible to back down on this issue, and even if we don’t, the added cost will be too much for the United States.”
“I also agree with taking a hard line and blockading Berlin to prohibit it from entering all goods of any kind from the hostile occupied territories.” Molotov spoke, “But we must take a certain degree of knowledge about West Berlin, this is something Comrade Beria needs to take more pains with, if we enter into a full blockade, how many days will West Berlin be able to support? It is imperative to get the relevant information in hand immediately.”
Beria spoke after a moment of silence, “Comrades, why can’t we do it at the same time? Keeping in mind that the American troops are still fighting in the Far East, and Hokkaido’s status has been unsettled since the war, and with the American air power in Europe, it might not be so easy to compromise, if we strike at the same time in the Far East as well, it will cause Washington to have to deal with the problem at the same time. With a portion of the American forces pinned down, we should at least get a victory in one direction, shouldn’t we?”
How far is Japan from Germany? It’s actually not that far if you think about it, but it’s just a Soviet Union away.
A country the size of the USSR is geographically an asshole for any country. If it was the US picking on both ends of the globe at the same time, the effort would be enormous.
But it was nothing more than a western border and an eastern border for the USSR. Beria’s point was simple: since the United States, Britain and France had already ignored the Soviet Union’s opinion and had to cause the division of Germany. Then in the Far East the Soviet Union still occupied Hokkaido.
The USSR could have supported a pro-Soviet government to rule Hokkaido, or just take it a step further and directly incorporate Hokkaido into the USSR as a union republic, or none of that and become part of the USSR as a state.
“Comrade Beria’s suggestion is very constructive!” After a long time, Stalin spoke slowly, “Hokkaido doesn’t seem to have a large population, so it wouldn’t be out of the question if it became part of the Soviet motherland. And we must say that it is a response to the illegal division of Germany by the United States, Britain and France. Here’s what I’m thinking, let’s clear up the situation in West Berlin first, and at the same time send comrades from the Foreign Ministry to make a last-ditch effort, and after the US, UK, and France have refused, then we’ll propose simultaneous countermeasures against both Berlin and Hokkaido.”
Stalin’s meaning was simple: the blockade of Berlin and the annexation of Hokkaido could be done together, and it would be best if both succeeded, and even if one ultimately failed, it could be considered a tie.
The Soviet Union never knew what it meant to be courteous, and since the effort to maintain superficial harmony had failed. And it was the other party who took the initiative to stir up trouble, so the Soviet Union could only choose I want all of them, and see what countermeasures the U.S. military at war could do?
The Greek civil war is not even over, Stalin can even in add a piece of firewood, openly support the Greek Communist Party.
For Allen Wilson, the most important day of his life was just around the corner, but the Foreign Office received an unusual piece of news from the diplomat in Berlin, Mr. Eifel, that Allied staff in Berlin were now required to submit their papers for inspection by the Soviet military when they went out of the city!
The Foreign Office eventually discussed that the move on the part of the Soviets was not worth making a fuss about.
Alan Wilson, who was at home preparing for his wedding, knew of the situation and knew that it was a precursor to the Soviet Union’s preparations for a blockade of Berlin. Of course he didn’t know at the moment that not only was Berlin going to be blockaded, but the bigwigs in Moscow were ready to annex Hokkaido.
“What’s wrong with you?” Pamela Mountbatten looked at the man and suddenly smiled, “Are you having trouble sleeping and a little nervous about the wedding tomorrow?”
“Honey, anyone else would be nervous.” Alan Wilson reached out and cupped Pamela Mountbatten’s cheek, “There are quite a few guests tomorrow. I hope I can maintain my sobriety tomorrow.”
“Actually, I’m nervous too, my head is spinning right now.” Pamela Mountbatten leaned on Alan Wilson’s shoulder with a tilt of her head at the sound of that, her eyes looking at the hanging clock, “It’s even tomorrow after midnight, and it’s sure to be an unforgettable day.”
